  • Brian Ferneyhough crafts music that finds and annihilates the boundaries of performative complexity in contemporary music. Renvoi/Shards, Ferneyhough’s first and only piece that features the quartertone vibraphone (it requires two vibraphones, tuned a quartertone apart, to be played) offers a stunningly diverse array of musical material in a union of virtuosity and physicality.

Agree. Very boring and unimpressive. From such a great master you expect something more. Although it was a discovery for me that there is a microchromatic vibraphone. I did not know that.

it a bit like early improvisations by John Zorn and Eugene Chadbourne
"200 statues". It's impressive and cool that he can compose/transcribe like this. my compositions:
    Google say
jt productions She dances in the Wind " or " Zappa Beefheart "
    thanks

who are the performers? people put a lot of time into learning music, the least you can do as someone aping their recording to put online is to credit them

In all score videos I originate myself I of course always credit the performers. But I also inherit and re-post score videos produced by accounts no longer extant, given to me by the account holders or rescued from oblivion. Unfortunately those don't always come with the necessary metadata, so I rely on others to supply the missing information. Do YOU know who the performers are? There's a solitary recording on spotify by Oyvind Torvund and Ole-Henrik Moe, but it's not that one......

Definitely not Motown...I have been fairly dismissive of Mr BF....but of course that was from a gut reaction...when...listening to this now....after a few glasses of wine......it's still as unsettling as Hell...and utterly uncompromising....it's a pity the sensation of music is both physical and mental....at least...you can walk away from an abstract impressionist or whatever....with music you have to be slightly more dramatic with your exit....but one cannot fail to be impressed by the sheer.....the...sheer....the....sh....the....

I would not put all the blame on the piece, the performance is absurdly inaccurate.
