    Mr. Odom, you are a man of many talents and skills. I also like that you give your mule some time to put the feet down in between shoeing. My son, who has been shoeing for 30 years now, does the same although he doesn't use a shoeing stock, even with our 2200+ lbs. Percherons, but I trained them to the point that they willingly lift their feet upon command.

    I've seen some stocks with carpet on the rests. I think you really take good care of your animals and only suggest this to help you. I like your two feet at a time method.

      Yessir mine had carpet on it when we started and my back posts still do. But I found the carpet gets in the way bad on the front and doesn’t really help much. But thank you very kindly. I do try my best to look after my mules. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Take care

    I sure like your calm manner and way of doing things. After 50+ years riding and training horses I've just got a mule "on trial basis" to see if i can get along with one. I've been reluctant since I'm not into the beating and banging most seem to do. You've given me hope and have earned another subscriber. I plan to squirrel hunt with my feist on him. Thanks for your insightful content.

    I enjoy your videos, I do not have horses but plan on getting a couple in a few years to pull logs and maybe a little farm work. Of all the things that go with having a horse or mule shoes is definitely my biggest concern. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Рік тому +1

      You can get by without them if a animal has good feet. And especially farm work if you aren’t on the road much. Logging…they really need them honestly. And you’re welcome. Glad ya enjoy them. Thanks for watching and commenting

    Hello Enjoy your videos on Mules and logging down here in Alabama.
    I like the way you treat your Mules and talk to people in general that’s a great thing. One question why the duck tape on the noise? Have a great day.

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Рік тому +1

      Hey! Big thanks for watching. The duck tape just distracts them to where they won’t try fight ya as hard when trimming or shoeing. They’ll worry more about the duct tape than the task I am doing lol. Thanks for the kind words and again for watching. Take care

    this is the line i use- I like my way of doing it better that your way of not doing it! Good Job! I have a pair of # 10 shoes! So, what's the duck tape on the nose do?

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Рік тому

      Thank you sir. The duct tape sorta distracts them and settles em down from being aggravating during shoeing. Thanks a bunch for watching

    Looking good. I've got the hardware for my stocks just need to finish the wood part then assemble. Did you make your own stocks? I think the metal on the front is a good idea because my 2 year old colt broke the neighbors wood one. So we put a metal square tubing across to keep her in.😅

      Just make sure you make it out of some good wood. Hickory or white oak. I bought mine as a kit from yoders. They make good stuff. I’ve had a few rough draft horses in it and it’ll hold ‘em just fine. You can put supports on it to your barn rafters or whatnot to help in stabilizing it. Just whatever ya need. I like mine for sure it helps a bunch

    Just curious what a full time farrier in your area charges for mules? Great videos

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Рік тому +1

      Well there are two types here. Amish farriers are fairly cheap but hard to get in. They charge around $100 a mule plus the shoes. English farriers are $200 plus per mule plus the shoes.

    It might help to crease your shoe before shaping to the mules foot. Creasing can distort the shape of your shoe.

      @zachodom7486  Рік тому

      Thats probably a good idea! I’ll try that. And thanks for watching and commenting

    You need some carpet where they rest the ankle.

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Рік тому

      I’ve had carpet on it and it gets too tore up to justify keeping it on there and I haven’t had any probs scuffing them at all. The back has carpet and it stays on. But the front doesn’t for some reason. Thanks for watching my friend

    You mite want to think about cutting or twisting those nails off when you driver one through
    That strap breaks or comes loose you've got a bunch of razor blades stickin up

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Рік тому

      What does the duct tape do?

  • @thomasneill6858
    @thomasneill6858 Рік тому +2

    I Think they are easier to keep fat and slick with shoes on too

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Рік тому

      Why ya think that is ya reckon? Mules are definitely easier keepers than horses but I don’t reckon I’ve ever paid attention to whether shoes has contributed to that. 🤔🤔

    Unless you are one of those "tighter than the skin on a grape" types you'd way ahead hiring a ferrier 😅

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  5 місяців тому

      Lol. Never heard that one. Someone told once, “tighter than bark on a tree.” I always laughed at that one too. I can’t say I’m that tight. But I do try and be frugal as often as I can. Anyway, thx for taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please
