Zuko, you are bad guy, but this does not mean you are bad guy.
Nice reference 👌
Not only that but perfect description of his character
Steve Rogers: "I understood that reference!"
"So this is how the great Zhao acts in defeat, even in banishment my nephew is more honorable then you. Thank you for the tea it was delicious."
This is a kid's show we can't go too dark
But I already drew the monk skeleton half buried in snow surrounded by slain fire nation soldiers
Dammit Steve.
Steve did that on purpose
People actually speculate he used an air bending technique that sucks the air out of the area. Hench why there were no visible burn marks.
For real.
No mention on how Aang names all his companion animals for the food he first feeds them?
Oh God, not the sneezing picture! Why do they always use the sneezing picture!?
did appa eat an... Appa-tizer?
@@Born_Stellar if remember right, it was an apple
@@Born_Stellaromg 😂
Love how the general wants to be remembered but later on is quickly forgotten. Even in the theatre play I think
He isn't even in the play lol. Zuko takes his place fully
Look at all the dead fire nation soldiers surrounding Gyatsu, and keep in mind at the time they were all supercharged by Sozin's comet. It is said that air is so OP that they could easily conquer the world if they weren't all pacifistic monks, hence why Sozin made sure to knock them out quick, and I like how LOK gave us Zaheer to show us how terrifying it is when an Airbender isn't afraid of killing
Gyatsu is a force to be reckoned with.
Fun fact Andrea Romano(the voice director of this series and many more) said that when Jason Issacs was interested in voice acting they created the character of Zhao specifically for him and he did an excellent job voicing this character.
I binge watched this whole show during quarantine and I noticed a few details that I missed as well as a few points that stood out more. For example, in this episode Zhao tells Zuko that if Fire Lord Ozai wanted his son back, he would have let the poor kid come back with or without the avatar. Sure Zhao was being a jerk when he said it but he kinda had a point. What makes Zhao even more awesome is that he was voiced by the actor Jason Isaacs, aka Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter series.
I know I’m super late to this but I just realized something. Zhao biting the fire nation info in the library later on was always something I questioned. But then it hit me. He didn’t do it for the Fire nation or to preserve their secrets. He did it so he could be the only one to ever have that knowledge.
There is a theory that since the room of avatar statues was built in that way the Air Nomads knew the Avatar cycle was going to an end and Korra would be the last one.
That is a weird theory considering not every avatar lives the same length of time. Kyoshi and Aang both had abnormally long lives.
@@ShadyDoorags that is true. Very supernatural.
Or it could be that the Statue room in the Southern Air Temple is getting full and will have to continue in another temple
@@lonebattledroid4474 Or expand the current temple.
Doubt that was the case given I don't think korra was even a idea at that point
I also think that arc of korra was one of the worst from what I remember though I had many issues with it
Zuko has the the best character ark in ATLA only one else who comes close it Soka.
Really glad that you decided to cover avatar!
He has been doing it for awhile.
Also cool profile picture by the way.
I like how it turns out the monks were wise to let Aang know he was the Avatar when he was ten. He would have died with them were it not for that.
Love the video but there's one thing I think you should have brought up. Was how they flushed out uncle's character a bit more in this one. Particularly when zuko asked him if he really meant he said and uncle responds with "of course ginseng is my favorite" in a roundabout way of saying you're honor was never in question.
There is a fun at Uncle Irho's outlook in this episode too, when he protects Zuko from the sneak attack he uses an earth bending form, he's well traveled, versed and far more than a mere uncle. Although he is a wonderful character. :)
I like how you described "tension" getting better with "knowledge of future episodes". The tension in that sense, from what I've picked up, isn't some instinctive pull, then: it's a mood, an atmosphere in its own right. I've heard Mr. Enter describe it as an emotion that Ed Edd n Eddy pulled off well, but...
...well, thanks to the both of you, I have a bit more respect for the concept. I personally got sick of the advice of "no you need to pin your audience down by making them wonder stuff". Yeah, mysteries are fun and intrigue is awesome, but I like when they aren't regarded as something you NEED to do. So I'm happy that some people look at it as an art rather than a pull. : )
The beginning of the wise Iroh. Easily the best line in the whole episode
It's the anniversary of ATLA
Lol, I never call this show ATLA, just Avatar, cause none of the other properties came close to the quality.
Best show ever made. Period.
Stolen comment
I do find it more interesting what the show implied by packing all the corpses into this episode into one tent, and then making sure that only one of them belonged to a good guy, as opposed to what would've been made clear if the entire mountain had been littered with the corpses of old men and young boys. We know that the airbenders had very strict rules about killing: Don't. And yet the only dead people seen at the SAT are all firebenders and one single airbender. The latter of whom is shown in a position of peaceful meditation, while the other corpses are collapsed in contorted heaps like they were panicking in their death throes. The airbender is identified as Gyatso. Meaning Aang's mentor violated the airbenders' most sacred command. And he did so to save everyone else at the SAT. Gyatso is the reason Sozin never gave up looking for Aang. He also unwittingly fed Sozin some propaganda fodder that Aang runs into in book 3, but that couldn't really be avoided. It's not Gyatso's fault a genocidal maniac forced him to become the Air Nomads' entire "formal" military.
When you realize that the monk that died may have possible killed the fire nation soldiers and there's a theory he used his air bending to suck the air out of the room or something
After my third rewatch of the show, this became my favorite episode.
It embodies all the tone and themes that make the show special.
I like this show but could we have more King of the Hill? Maybe
If I remember it right, it's also the first time where you see Uncle Iroh is a badass, when he effortless blocks Zhaos attack
This episode/show is a perfect example of how the antagonist is not always the bad guy. The bad guy can be the antagonist, but the reverse is not a given. Love this show as a whole.
Zuko always shines above the rest.
Zuko rise like the sun.
I hate how little interaction this got. I hope you do more Avatar content.
my brain: someone noticed the incorrect statue...
my brain after 5 more seconds: SOMEONE NOTICED THE INCORRECT STATUE!!!!
I know he'll get his time to shine in these, and he gets put of a pedestal by the community, but this episode also gives us our first glimpse that Iroh is more than he lets on. It's not for very long, just a flash, but that little tease of importance is enough to breed intrigue.
Really liked this vid, can't wait for more! It's always nice to look back on something and see it in a new light. It gives me an appreciation for the show. Thanks
I feel like if i saw shady on the street without the durag or shades i would not recognize this guy lmao love the CONTENT
Wow very nice! Even after many rewatches etc I've never considered the pride/honor duality
i like the one theory of how monk gyatso killed all those fire nation soldiers
My theory about the statue room is that it’s all the avatars that this temple recognizes, some people don’t like certain avatars and choose to not recognize them as such. So the southern air temple refused to recognize kyoshi for whatever reason.
So one thing I only noticed after several repeat viewings… Monk Gyatso is SURROUNDED by Fire Nation corpses. He went down SWINGING.
Yep. Also, _his clothes and bones_ are NOT burnt, so _fire_ didn't kill him, or at least it isn't certain.
I've heard hypotheses that Gyatso did a suicidal attack, drawing all the air out of the room he died in so that both the firebenders and _himself_ would die, as Airbenders are pacifistic.
I remember that the Agni Kai was actually one of the first if not the first scene i had ever seen from the series. I had watched some trailers of the series and it looked cool but the first time i ever saw an episode i only saw it by happenstance while i was at a friends place. We where playing and when we went inside the tv was still on and this episode was what was shown. I remeber the Agni Kai duel and how even without context it imediatly made me want to see more of the series. Even as a kid i loved the concept of how bending was tied into martial arts, i had already watched DBZ so seeing another animated series with martial arts and superhuman abilities hooked me on the spot. Its weird how even 17 years later i can still cleary recall the first time i watched this series and how much i loved it from the get go.
honestly i'm surprised how early in the series they did this episode
The statue before Roku not being Kyoshi and Kyoshi being born over 400 years ago shows that she wasn’t originally planned to be right before Roku, but the writers wrote themselves into it and had to come up with “she lived for over 200 years” to make up for it.
What hasn’t been explained is how Koh said the Avatar tried to kill him about 900 years ago, but Kuruk came right before Kyoshi and was a short-lived Avatar. One THEORY is that spirits are bad with time, but I haven’t heard a canon explanation.
3:04, I’ll grant you that for Avatar, I won’t grant you that for Iron Man
Really enjoy your commentaries, thanks and please make more
Oh-oh my god!!!
YOU'RE THE GUY WHO TALKS ABOUT THE HORSE FROM HORSIN' AROUND!!! *faints*
A bad guy can be a good person,
and a good guy can be a bad person.
Kyoshi and the Water Avatar appear in you video 2:39
Ah, the episode that shifted my like of Atla to love.
I just realized that the monk mentor is voiced by Uncle.
I don't know how I managed not to realize that him going into Avatar state is why the world knew he was alive. I feel like an actual moron lol.
I know its a year BUT, theres a theory that the firebenders that sacked the air temple was earthbenders and while its likely false.
Its a intresting theory
And Zuko is clearly the better of the 2 in a moral and character. He just wants to prove him self while Zhou wants power
Iroh is just generally Goals.
Nicely done man
"there is clearly something good there"
its Iroh.
Re watched the episode recently and I get the feeling the ange plot got outsourced
Oooh continues with zhao with his mentor jiang jiang or however it is spelled
one word.... Agni'kai.
or is that two words.
XD
The more King of the Hill the better 😂
I always wondered why chau was like that i mean there is. a 0,02 percent chance hes gonna be the firelord wouldnt you want to atleas be neutral friendly🤣😂
Nice video

Hey, will you make some sort of response to the announced Avatar Studios? I really want to know what you think about it
Is this Admirable Animation?
What's AART?
Not knowing what that means is bugging me too
@@clubfoot729 damn. I just saw the notification and hoped maybe it would be someone telling me what it is.
Well, hopefully someone will tell us soon.
Awsome Avatar Retrospective Thingy
Cover new disenchantment season pls
Minor correction; Kyoshi’s bi.
First?
Love the channel btw.
My only complaint is the fact they say air benders are gone but I all was find it growing up kinda dumb as I doubt you can’t gencoide hole way of life. I do believe there are air benders out there
Wtf... this isn't king of the hill
Destiny
AART? More like FAART.
