A summer trip to Yosemite National Park during a hot spell offers a unique blend of stunning landscapes and the challenges of the heat. Starting in Yosemite Valley, the towering granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome create an awe-inspiring backdrop, but the temperature can make the valley feel like a furnace. Despite the heat, Bridalveil Fall provided a refreshing break, as mist from the 620-foot cascade offered cool relief from the scorching sun.
Next, the drive up to Glacier Point rewarded us with panoramic views of the valley, Half Dome, and distant waterfalls, though the elevation provided only slight respite from the warmth. From there, we ventured onto the Tioga Pass Highway, which climbs to 9,945 feet. Despite the heat at lower elevations, the higher altitude brought slightly cooler temperatures.
Stopping at Tioga Lake, we enjoyed a peaceful moment by its clear waters, framed by rugged mountains. The lake's cold water was a perfect place to dip our feet and cool off before continuing our journey. A final stop at Olmsted Point gave us a different angle of the iconic Half Dome, with glacial-polished granite beneath our feet. While the trip was hot, the beauty and variety of Yosemite’s landmarks made every moment worthwhile.
