Hofmann's Potion (LSD documentary)

- In 2002 Concepta Film finished a film called "Hofmann's Potion: The Early Years of LSD". Written and directed by Connie
Littlefield and Produced by Kent Martin for the National Film Board of Canada. The documentary delves into the little known
early history of the world's most notorious psychedelic.
Long before Timothy Leary urged a generation to "turn on, tune in and drop out," lysergic acid diethylamide, or LSD, was being
used by researchers trying to understand the human mind. This documentary is a fascinating look at the story of "acid" before it
hit the streets.
Featuring interviews with many LSD pioneers, Hofmann's Potion is much more than a simple chronicle of the drug's early days.
With thoughtful interviews, beautiful music and stunning cinematography, it is an invitation to look at LSD, and our world, with
a more open, compassionate mind. - Розваги
Psychedelics have rid me of 12 long agonising years of crippling depression and anxiety. I tried fifteen different meds, therapy, exercise etc. Nothing worked. Now I trip on mushrooms or LSD once a week/fortnight and I'm now a normal person. Incredible. How can these beautiful drugs be illegal?! It's so frustrating.
It was a very important turning point in my recovery from a morbid, recurrent unipolar depression that had me down for more than 10 years. I wish I could have been able to thank Albert Hofmann for the liberation of my mind! Absolutely the most beautiful and amazing substance ever discovered by humans!
Only if could find it. I suffer from depression, it drains my body and clogs my mind. After I do mushrooms , I have so much energy and able to focus

Powerful stuff.
I'm sure this is a rumour which has just turned into accepted truth with the sheer passage of time
@STRAWMAN HUMAN I have. Many times. There are many people that have taken LSD and still gone on to do awful things in life. That's not to say the experience can't change people in a good way it just isn't to the extent that people make out.
STRAWMAN HUMAN there were some doing LSD and committing pretty horrible stuff in places like Vietnam. Communists were funneling quite a few drugs for American GIs to consume.

I was always skeptical about trying LSD,but at age 25 I gave it a whirl.... it was the most enlightening expirence of my life, it made me less selfish, more empathetic and alltruistic, and made music sound so beautiful! Its too bad that Tim Leary pushed his luck too far with it.
LSD truly is one of the greatest gifts we could have ever received. Tim Leary had a good run, and I also highly recommend reading his ‘Psychedelic Experience’ if you haven’t already.
I tried it at 25 too, perfect age to start taking it imo. Couldn't believe i used to live so blindly and carelessly..
I tried it then too. I actually became more selfish. I felt more confident about myself and I decided to plan out my year ahead. I didn't become more emotionally empathetic I think, but more aware of everything yes
LSD would have always been made illegal, whether Leary made it big or not.
All of that was " in your head" due to chemicals.
The government tried to use it as something evil. But something so beautiful can't be....
Yes, their primitive adrenal response to everything makes them want to weaponize everything-this is all they can manage
I first did acid at 13, in 1970. I did it almost every Saturday during the school year. My experiences were filled with incredibly vivid and intricate hallucinations, but beyond that, it instilled a desire to never stop exploring and learning about consciousness and it's relationship to the universe.
Hi
Can I quote your comment in my essay about the Beatles in the chapter about drugs ?

I had such an amazing trip yesterday. As someone who has deep depression this beautiful drug makes you appreciate being alive. Do it in nature while listening to music. It is bliss.
Should I take my first trip in nature at the springs? Or at home with a friend? I'm so new to this!!

Humphrey Osmond, who knew and socialized with Owsley Stanley, deserves far more acknowledgement for his imprint on LSD Research. The Psychedelic Pioneers is by far the most heart opening of Psychedelic research documentaries as I’ve yet seen.
LSD gives a new meaning to life.
RIP Dr. Hoffman, you have been missed.
He definitely made a significant impact over the years with "25".
I was fortunate to try Sandoz acid in London 1971. Up there with Owsley!!
Folks, everything said here is correct. My life changed completely because of psychedelics. Complete 180 in my thought process and my life. Broke free of addiction as well.
The best time I ever had with L was when I was in the Navy back in the mid 70's & did a 4way hit of blotter out in the middle of the pacific ocean!! I guarantee I'll never forget it!! lol!!
Whats funny is you can never imagine someone skating by in public tripping balls until you see someone else doing it!

i'm glad to report that people are still making great LSD. thank you, who ever you are.

I've done my share of psychedelics, i.e., acid, LSD, mescaline, mushrooms, etc. and am glad I did. It does give one a different outlook on life. Did most of it when I was in the USMC.
We used to trip almost every weekend when I was in the army in Germany in the early 70s, great times!

Cant get enough of the buzz and the fits of laughter but the paranoia gets the better of me sometimes.
This documentary has been hugely grounding for me in 2019.
Try watching it again now in 2020!
I took LSD when I was 16. I had a terrible fear seize me just before. I gave into peer pressure & took it. I was sitting in the kitchen when felt nothing was real. Life, & even myself didn't exist. I'm 70 now & have never got over it. Of course I learned to cope, but things have never been the same.
This molecule is one of the most powerful I've ever come across. Lsd25 has radically changed my thinking and perception about this reality. I've most recently been using my experiences with this sacred medicine to become closer with my wife. We've had 4 trips together but that last one was the most prolific and profound. Really wonderful stuff. Big shout out to A. Hoffman for discovering this sacred medicine.
Anyone who finds this interesting should read 'Storming Heaven' by Martin A. Lee and Bruce Shlain. It gives the whole fascinating history of LSD.
Acid Dreams by Martin A. Lee is great, as well.
Storming Heaven was written by Jay Stevens. ✌🏻
Dr Hoffman lived for 102 years. He recently died in 2008. RIP, Mr Hoffman! U are now experiencing the ultimate trip. Your mind has transformed into an entity comprised of infinite energy capable of travelling into this universe and beyond. Your consciousness will voyage thru space and time!!!
Real good documentary, I really liked how they interviewed all the LSD pioneers. Interesting to see what everyone had to say.
I never freaked out on this stuff....it was like I expected to have my own personal movie. Then to discover that life was an illusion anyway!
I freaked out a little the first time, I paid for 2 hit but my friends guy soaked a whole joint paper. My friend didn't mention his guy had hooked my up with dozens of hits instead of the mere two I bought. I ate the whole thing and it was POWERFUL !!! That's the danger of LSD, it can be easy to take to much when you can't see your dose
tried once at age 17 with my best buddy. tripped for 48 hours straight (stuff was strong) ended up going deep into a NorCal redwood forest, had some of the most profound experiences of my life, long story but all for the best. Came out wiser (literally) and more at peace with so many things
For what it's worth. Age 19. Having read Aldous Huxley and Tim Leary's 'The Politics of Ecstacy'. I wanted to experience it. Going beyond. 1973 in England was a good place and a good time to try it. An Illuminating, a wonderful trip. Also sometimes scary. Because so new and immediate and strange for the nice middle-class British boy that I was..........Later; dealing it and telling everyone I met how great it was -prison. The cold shower. Society needs functioning individuals, people who can take care of business. And I've done that now for 30 years. Paid my taxes and paid my dues. But now; seeing this documentary, I'd like to once more have a touch, -no, much more than a touch - the full-blown experience of god-consciousness! It's calling me , calling me home. Or should I say to the non-limits of the ultimate -ecstatic - reality. I'll either find or make the necessary molecules.........I salute you all who are on, or have been, or will be on the same path. (The reality trip I call it.)

Mr Kaiser, please be polite in your questions. I meant, if it needs to be spelt out, that when I was young and idealistic, - leaving behind the somewhat selfish hippy trip I was into, to become a contributing member of society. NOT dealing dope, but working, being a teacher and not being a parasite on society. i.e. all of us. I'm 62 now and still working. I'm not a recipient of welfare. Even the most right-wing of the current American candidates - why, even Donald Trump himself ! -for the Republican party couldn't shoot me down. Is that sufficient for you? And finally, I want, yet again, to go beyond the work-a-day world to higher things. Do you reproach me with that?
Chris Eden I'm 61 of age. Your'e 62. Socialized humanists of cultural animosities dares to bewail nothing of a significant demeanor. A person's ingesting of drugs is more a Health issue than it is a criminal one.
The government's taxes... Taxes, money taken from individuals by a monopoly on the use of force
Hopefully you got a nice trip.
Great doc. LSD is my favorite drug especially mixed with marijuana. Once took about 800ug accidently and haven't had the need to do it since then though.
I recently received a batch of sour patch kids that were dosed with an ungodly amount of the purest lsd I've ever done in my life. And I've taken over 150 lsd experiences. That night changed me for the better and forever. Very peculiar experience to say the least.

i think everyone in this world should at least take acid or shrooms once in their lifetime, theres nothing in this world quite like it, for me it was a beautiful experience and a personal enlightenment, prior to taking acid i believed in no god or higher being, but what i felt on acid changed my views because of what i felt and what i saw, i don;t believe in a name given religion but i know their is a higher power behind this all. Acid helped me to realize this.

I “flew” a rental car from there down to S Carolina in one sitting, one with everything the entire way. Thorough metamorphosis. The good ole days 😊
i think too much is read into the experience, bottom line for me and i think most of my friends is that the Trip was fun, and mostly fun to be shared with others, preferably a group of others, in a safe and usually natural, pastoral environment , with failry well known dosage level, suitable for each Tripster. Enjoying Nature and visual patterns in particular , and colors and sounds and textures, these were some of the fun things that we shared on the Trips together. wb

It is loud and clear that the greatest benefit of the psychedelic experience is to free one of the structures that have been loaded onto their lives. This freedom doesn’t come about when a “guide” is imposing interpretations or suppositions into the experience. Going downstream gets you to reality and comfortable happiness.

These compounds are to be treated with respect. There are plenty of stories of people who were careless and paid an expensive price.
I've taken most of the known psychedelic substances as a young person and some more than others. I see all these "positive" blissful posts about the effects of these drugs which can be true. However, you can just as easily experience unpleasantness and fearful state of interpreting things. I've experienced both, I accidentally took 4 doses of blotter thinking it was just one and the experience was unbelievably unbearably intense.
I believe these drugs have therapeutic value, although more trials and tests wouldn't hurt. Don't romanticize this stuff it is/can be serious.
Yep I've had some bad terrifying trips in my day for sure haha, end of the world and going to hell kind of stuff. But after 40 years of not tripping I'm back at it again and it cured me of bad depression.I think you should respect psychedelics because they are some powerful medicine for sure.

Ok, I read all the comments and, really you wouldn’t know we were all talking about the same thing. Here’s my take: I think our mind’s job here on the physical plane is to help us cope. In order to help us cope it has to block a lot of stuff from the conscious part of our mind. LSD, as A. Huxley noted, opens the doors of perception. I had what can best be described as a religious experience but it wasn’t like I thought I was in church with a minister preaching a sermon. LSD can be a real learning experience. I saw that we are all actors on life’s stage - we’re all staring in life’s drama, drama, drama. A word of caution, don’t try and drive your car or motorcycle. Have a trusted person sit with you. When you take the drug,?the blinders come off and you might feel like you are going insane for a period of time. Om!
its amazing..and could so help the people of the world GROW...lets move forward.

it always amazed me how some humans have the ability to let go, & then many just dont. anyone who has felt DMT, or peyote, or LSD, etc slowly making your face get flush & warm, & that knowledge that youre in for a fucking ride very shortly....and being cool with it....not having the capacity to be cool with that knowledge, is what makes so many bad trips. mdma has a similar on rush , but the ride is not similarly unpredictable. .
My first experience with LSD was fun..all I kept seeing was words in a bubble, whenever people would speak..like the newspaper cartoons...My 2nd wasn't so pleasant ...and never did it again...

@maggru91 You've got the right attitude I'd say. I'm curious, what type of prep. have you been doing. The 1st time i tried it, this girl gave me a 1/2 a tab....when I told her nothing was happening, she gave me the rest of it. It was fantastic! You don't want to be with people who are 'downers' or people you don't know. Just remember, your reality will stay constant, while your perceptions of it will alter. I hope you enjoy it.
