💙Phil Collins is a genius at everything he does! He's earned and deserved to be in the RRHOF as a Solo Artist for his MANY significant contributions to music history!!🏆👏 He's been egregiously overlooked for 18 years!!😡
this was in 1991 the year I was born gotta like this interview from Phil Collins love them all and the ones from the 80s was this when he was working on Genesis We Can't Dance album.
When Phil Collins and Steve Hackett joined Genesis, magic happened. How I wish I could have seen them perform during that time. I am lucky to have seen them around the mid to late-80's where they performed Supper's Ready in it's entirety, and quite a few from the Duke album (which, in my opinion, is very enjoyable). Some of the ABACAB stuff was good. The song Mama was great live, as was Home by the Sea and Second Home by the Sea. Wishing Phil all the best these days. Stay up, Phil.
Mama is one of the best songs!!!! Simply love how Phil performs it both on the album and live. Incredibly powerful. And I agree about Home by the Sea and the Second HBTS.. I love all that album actually. And, well, I prefer live performances with Phil, not Peter. On albums, Peter is of course very good but not live. He is not as versatile as Phil, who can sing very taxing parts as well as quiet and soft parts..he's something else really❤
I love PHIL COLLINS HE IS AWESOME I LOVE HIM HE IS A VERY GREAT SINGER AND DRUM PLAYER HE IS #1 TO ME. I WISH HE WAS MY HUSBAND AND WE WOULD BE TOGETHER FOREVER AND ALWAYS PHIL COLLINS YOU ARE WONDERFUL
I love how Phil was this huge superstar, but never really did the superstar character. He was always honest in these kind of interviews. If he had a chance to make a joke he'd do it, but he never put on a fake persona.
"The album's an album." "The song is really the song." "The record is the overall record." Only Phil Collins could explain awards that way and make it funny! 😅
I don't think so. If I come across it I'll certainly post it, but this seems to be the only Letterman appearance I have from the "But Seriously" period. I have two later appearances I plan to post if I haven't already ('93 and '94), but those don't have that song. I plan to scour my garage for more tapes, but I think I may have already found them all.
Phil is legendary 🌟😎❤⚘ Funny the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame mentioned. Let's hope Phil gets inducted on his merits as a solo artist. #getphilvotedin There is a Hall of Fame museum now in Cleveland! 👏🏻👏🏻 Let's go Rock Hall! #getphilvotedin
Hi. I was wondering if u have the live performance that phil did on letterman early 90's of "I wish it would rain down?" As ive been looking for years!! Thanks.
Phil Collins didn't release a solo album in 1991 but his band Genesis did release a studio album called "We Can't Dance". This album was originally released in October 1991.
We Can't Dance turned out to be a pretty good album with songs like: No Son of Mine Driving the Last Spike Never a Time Tell me Why Living Forever Fading Lights
So interesting that during this time Phil was adamant that he wasn't influenced by rap music, while now he tells anyone who will listen that Grandmaster Flash's The Message was instrumental for Genesis' Mama.
Ha, i don't think anybody enjoys Lettermans' company, but Phil is a professional and in those pre www/web days any way of conecting to your fans was important and Phil understood this and did his best to make the most of a media appearance.
It's not right that Letterman is interviewing Phil Collins and highlighting MC Hammer's career. It's an insult to try and give credit for Phil Collins' work to MC Hammer.

Phil. The perfect man.
Talented, gorgeous, hilarious & most importantly, a nice, humble man.
I adore his dry sense of humor ❤
Rod Stewart and Phil Collins have an excellent sense of humor!!
I love how dry Phil is... pure beautiful British humour... Letterman doesn't know how to handle him lol! Greetings from England xxx
I just read his book and didn't realise he had a British accent still. He's funny as. I'm English and get him totally.
@@slyfoxie55Why wouldn’t he? He’s from London and lived in the UK for most of his life. 🤡

I love Phil Collins!! My dad played his jams all the time!!! 🙏rest easy pop!
You make it sound as if he died xD
Phil is a diamond
Wow, I actually remember watching this episode. I would have been 19 then in ‘91.
PHIL IS THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST PRODIGY THAT HAS EVER WALKED THIS PLANET #SPIRITUAL

"I WISH HE WAS MY HUSBAND AND WE WOULD BE TOGETHER FOREVER" Me too, and I´m a man, and I´m heterosexual.
Me three! I wish he was my husband. He is amazing!
With me four!
I can't really fault anything here in this statement, even the full capitalisation is appropriate. I totally agree with you madam, and godspeed

Wait a minute ……. I Love him too !! 🥰😘
No … long pause. 😂 I miss him. I miss his music. I hope he is doing ok.
I love how Phil was this huge superstar, but never really did the superstar character. He was always honest in these kind of interviews. If he had a chance to make a joke he'd do it, but he never put on a fake persona.
Amazing..debating if hiphop was here to stay😂😂😂 love this interview ..phil definitely called it.
Yeah, but he's clearly not happy about it. And he was right about that, too.
Phil's answer is weird since he acknowledges getting the laugh for Mama from The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
"The album's an album."
"The song is really the song."
"The record is the overall record."
Only Phil Collins could explain awards that way and make it funny! 😅
and only Letterman could ask such a stupid question
The greatest musician of the ages
You can tell Letterman has respect for Phil-there's certainly a touch of deference here.
I don't think so. If I come across it I'll certainly post it, but this seems to be the only Letterman appearance I have from the "But Seriously" period. 0:09 "One More Night" uptempo version.
Thanks anyway. Keep the clips coming sir.
I wished Dave would stop asking irrelevant questions and just let Phil Collins talk. Phil has very cool things to say, if you let him.

And...?
@@blaked36 It was 8 months before the release date of the album
He was still riding the ...But Seriously wave & yes, Genesis convened at The Farm a month later to begin We Can’t Dance!
@@ethelip5239 What do you mean that Phil was still riding the ...But Seriously wave?
We Can't Dance turned out to be a pretty good album with songs like:
No Son of Mine
Driving the Last Spike
Never a Time
Tell me Why
Living Forever
Fading Lights

The Grammy categories are insane.
Letterman never could keep up with Phil's quick witt. But they get along and act if they enjoy each other's company.
