- Here's a fresh perspective on Adam van Koeverden's 2004 Olympic gold medal performance in the K-1 500 m kayak finals. Living in England at the time, I had to wake up at 5:00 am to watch the finals where Adam van Koeverden had a good chance of winning a medal - hopefully gold for Canada. I recorded the event in case I didn't get up in time.
Since we know the outcome it may be hard to put yourself in my shoes at the time, but what I watched and what the announcers were saying was so different it was confusing: your eyes see a Canadian victory, but your ears hear that it isn't so - maybe it was the early hour, but for a while my brain was questioning if I actually saw what I thought I witnessed!
The video feed is the same for all viewers, and the standings and replay verifed that my eyes were correct, but the announcers still don't catch on - that's when it becomes truly amusing. Finally at about the 5 minute mark the announcers start to catch on that there is more than just the British guy in the race who finished 3rd: "They're saying van Koeverden has won the gold medal ... I'd like to see the replay..."
It ends up being an interesting perspective on the bias and focus of different announcers. In order not to offend anyone, I've blurred the logo in the top corner, but I can at least tell you that it wasn't the BBC.
lol They were focusing so much on the Brit they didn't even realize Van Koeverden clearly won.
Adam van Coeverden wowwwww
Ya i luv adam
The announcers make jack Edward's of Boston bruins look unbiased
Didn't lane 2 burn the start?
What were they watching, ha...😂
It's been corrected? I think only in their minds, I think.
well done Ian hope your well. Nigel
Ya a photo for 2nd
haha what a fail on their part paying so little attention
This has to be the worst commentary of any sports event I have ever seen. Were they actually watching the race??? Every body knew that Adam won. Even the athletes competing. Just awful.
British pomposity at its' best!
You didn't blur it well enough as you can tell it's the Eurosport live logo
Okay - I tried ... hopefully it's good enough to stop me from being sued.
fake news .
