    You are so right about Fair Warning great LP! Most people don’t know but if you can find a promo, they were done on virgin transparent vinyl and sound absolutely amazing. The one thing I can say about Van Halen records they were all produced and mastered incredible.

    That is, without a doubt, an immaculate collection of records any aspiring record collector, in general, could find. It hits the bullseye for me personally. Unfortunately, here in Canada the purchase of all 10 records that match those demonstrated in the video will fly far north of $200. The market has become extremely exclusive here for premium vinyl. Dealers are in the loop about the market locally and elsewhere. If you don't keep your guard up they'll push for the maximum dollar every time.

    @University Of Vinyl. Maybe you should search around for some of these albums sir:
    "Montrose" - Montrose (first album, just 38 minutes of essential rock!)
    "Live And Dangerous" - Thin Lizzy
    "Bridge Of Sighs" - Robin Trower
    "Machine Head" - Deep Purple
    If you play these vinyl record loud enough, then your neighbours will get to like them too.......

    Fun video and challenging list based on the limits in question. Personal preference, I'd select Dreamboat Annie or Little Queen by Heart over anything Carly Simon, and certainly they can be found at a good price point used. I just find Carly more "Singer/Songwriter" than Classic Rock. Semantics I guess. :-) Separately, if we're talking about great sounding LPs to play (particularly with headphones) I don't see how The Who's Who's Next or Quadrophenia aren't considered. You can still find good clean copies at $20 or less here in the NW US. Lastly, ZZ Top Tres Hombres. Just about any of their 70's to early 80's catalog can be found clean in the $8 to $16 range in the U.S. and they all sound good to my ear. I just think Texas Boogie and Classic Rock go hand in hand. Thanks for the vid!

    Note on the Steely Dan - Aja. There are copies of AB 1006 that have the B scratched out and an A etched in it's place. I think they are leftover stampers from the original run and they also sound amazing.
    Edit: The copies I am referencing have AA-1006 on the cover and labels but AA ̶B̶ -1006 in the deadwax.

    I would take the 200 bucks and buy as many cheap records of bands I liked with 150 of it, just to have a few to play. I'd take the other 50 and buy a couple nice ones to start a collection of nice records. If you have a record store near you I'd buy from them to save on shipping cost. I don't really like Steely Dan so I'd pass on that as a first choice. Another thing to decide is if you want to collect all old pressings from the day or do you want to collect new pressings?
    The original Rubber Soul record does not have Drive my car on it.

    Tim- I truly enjoy every one of your videos. Music is subjective, and for each of us is personal. However, the $20. rule shouldn't matter, it's the $200. limit you were using as a final cost. As you said, some will be a bit pricier than others- but doing research on pressings/re-issues and some good old fashioned crate digging are the best way to go. However, I think you missed the mark on a few here. Personal choice- I hear ya- Some of my choices for classic rock "starter collection" would be Lynyrd Skynrd- anything with Ronnie Van Zant, but my choice would be Second Helping or Street Survivors. Queen- News of the World, Bad Company- their first self-titled LP, Aerosmith- Get Your Wings, Toys in the Attic or Rocks, and of course Elton John- nearly anything from his 1970's heyday. Other no-brainers are Tom Petty/Heartbreakers, ELO, The Doors, Deep Purple. VG+ or better copies can be found with a bit of work. I have 1500+ LPs, and over 10K 45s, so I'm fairly selective at this point. Not surprised your subscriber base is growing- keep up the great videos!

    I give this a like so I will check deadwax to see what I got. Steely Dan Gaucho found clean for $2. Need that Aja album, Prince Purple Rain I have. Other Bob Segar lps have left from after made had to do purges. They are Bob Segar System and Mongrel. Born To Run- Bruce Springsteen have. Boston have found clean good for $2. Beatles Rubber Soul have on cd. Rolling Stones Tattoo You have the vinyl. Yea I think I need that Carly Simon. Loved You're So Vain. Have other Rush from 70s some other later on cds, but Moving Pictures currently have on cassette. Van Halen currently have Fair Warning on cd. The only VH have on vinyl currently is Women and Children First clean and good for $2 I found. Dire Straits I would prefer getting Money For Nothing. Im no starter but good idea to help new upcoming collectors. TC Tim.

    For Steely Dan, There Steely Dan's Greatest hits shouldn't have been left out. Or Can't buy a thrill. The Stones, Hot Rocks and More Hot Rocks and Fazed Cookies. Rush 2112. You left out Pink Floyd and,personally I thought they sure sucked out loud live; but studio knobs turned, they were fabulous Fleetwood Mac. You also left out the band responsible for more number one hits than any other band or performer Hall and Oates.

    Prince isn't Classic Rock. I had Steely Dan in my Classic Rock section - well, the two albums of theirs that I have, The Royal Scam and Countdown to Ecstacy - but moved them over to Oldies/Easy Listening because they're often called "Yacht Rock," which suggests "easy listening."
    Is Steely Dan really Classic Rock?

    • @Universityofvinyl
      @Universityofvinyl  5 місяців тому

      Steely Dan most certainly Classic Rock and frankly tired of them frequently being pigeon holed as Yacht Rock. Yacht Rock is a pretty dumb “broad brush” marketing term. If you think “The Boston Rag” from Countdown to Ecstasy is easy listening I shudder to think how you classify Frank Zappa.

    • @MikeMargolis-j8f
      @MikeMargolis-j8f 5 місяців тому

      @@Universityofvinyl Well, coming from the individual who calls Prince classic rock, I'll take your comments about my Steely Dan sentiments with a grain of salt, lol.
      But I actually like the Yacht Rock reference when taking about acts like Al Stewart, Dr Hook, America, Firefly, et al; it's a broad stroke, sure, but it symbolizes what much of this music "feels" like.
      As such, I always felt like "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" and Dan stuff like that was kind of easy listening/yacht, so that's why I threw Royal Scam and Countdown into the Easy Listening/Oldies section of my collection, even though those songs I mentioned aren't from those albums.
      If you're confident in recommending The Royal Scam and Countdown to Ecstasy for Classic Rock, I'll move them....
