The Best Small Workspace Welding Table | Part 1 | Making a Fold-Down Welding Table

I've been recently getting into welding after picking up an inexpensive flux-core welder and need a welding table to make projects easier. We have limited space in our small two-car garage, so a welding table that folds down against the wall is a must. I designed this folding welding table to take up minimal space when stored and to be easily made using commonly available steel pieces that you can pick up at any steel supplier.
In Part 1, I go through the process of welding together the table top, adding weld-on hinges, and drilling pivot holes for the legs. Part 2 will show attaching the table to the wall and making the legs.

It's interesting, I had this exact idea back in July. Even had started a thread on the Hobart weld talk forums. No one had made one. Granted, I was also looking to build one about 30 inches deep and about 72 inches wide. But with 2x4 wall studs, the weight could maybe rip it out of the studs. Glad someone has finally made one of these.

If you made the table top out of thicker metal, I could see that being an issue. Though, then again, if you're making a welding table out of 3/4" thick plate, you probably have the space for a "proper" welding table 😅
