We do need federal laws protecting voters. It needs to be spelled out, like how many voting boxes are available according to population numbers. That people shouldn't have to drive a certain distance to go vote. That college students shouldnt be kept from voting. And any person elected or not who interferes with voter rights should go to prison
Trump pointed the issue out in a Fox News interview back in September, when he said 'If all Americans are able to vote, you will never see a Republican voted into office, ever again'.

That is why they need ID's to vote. I no where mail boxes are in my town. I have to drive with a license to go to the store. College are not being kept from voting. and voters who interferes with vote counting is in the big democrat run cities. That's it.

Isn't it ironic that South Africa's elections are less restrictive, much simpler, more independent of political parties than the US???
As a South African, in the past 2 election cycles I've been able to walk to the voting station in my pajamas, voted in about 15 minutes and got breakfast on the way back

That right there means everyone vote that they don't agree with, they can pick a Candidate of their chosen and from what party. All votes for any other are null and void. Now that ought to chill you to the bone. now it makes me feel I live in Nazi Georgia. 40 States now are changing their voters rights and making new bills as well.

I agree. But, he is ill informed about this.
People can have water and food in line to vote , but they can not hand it out bc by law those voting areas are campaign free zones.
My sister was approached in line by a trumpster who offered her a bottle water and wanted to convince her to vote for tRump.
Many of the drop boceswere vandalized and votes were lost.
According to her in laws, the voting bill is not perfect , but they support it👍🏿

When you're born, you automatically are branded with a Social Security Number, why can't you automatically be registered to VOTE, and be allowed to VOTE when you reach 18 years of age as well?

We are a failing democracy because of 1) the electoral college 2) plurality voting 3) the Senate.
Solutions: 1) remove it 2) replace it with rank choice or approval voting 3) start by ending the filibuster and giving statehood to DC and PR.

Your story is very moving - I passed on that horrific law passed in law in Georgia, and yet ... No one seemed outraged or invested in trying to change this - People? Please! Hold on to our democracy - Fight, fight, fight for our freedoms - Don’t just sit back and casually let our freedoms be taken.

That is exactly the point why I will forever be grateful to my parents to migrate in the early 1960's from the US to Europe. Best choice ever and advisable to any US citizen today incl. Australia and New Zealand. Those countries have to offer far more than the failed US.

You can personally carry food and water you just can not hand it out to other voters bc a voting site by law is a campaign free zone. My sister was approached by a Trupmster with free water bc he wanted to convince her to vote for tRump. My sister and her in laws actually support this provision bc of the tRump people breaking the law by campaigning in a campaign free zone. 👍🏿

Hey Ari, I notice you only included in your personal story, mention of democracies weaker than the US. You didn't tell them that you actually grew up in a democracy stronger than the US. You're probably right in that decision. Americans wouldn't believe that such a thing existed, even if it's right on their northern border.

When will Americans understand that it is not democracy when a political party runs the election. Elections (voter rolls, district boundaries, regulations, vote counting etc. ) MUST be administered by an independent statutory body.
Democracy is not for the complacent. It must be fought for and defended every day.

As you mentioned India, it is going under same Republican strategy, by current Federal govt, which is attacking the Democracy since 7 years. @@davidgoldman9820 shorter hours, fewer polling stations = longer lines and greatly increased wait time. The GOP has been reducing polling sites in urban centers for 10 years! All this does is cause people to have to wait longer and longer and go further away to vote, all efforts in suppressing turnout. Meanwhile rural areas remain unaffected. What's the rationale behind banning bringing food to people in line? There is no justification other than basically siege warfare to press more people out of line. You say its not just against blacks but that is the aim, it always is. It's the same reason marijuanna was demonized in the 60's, to target and disenfranchise black people. Since they are most commonly in the urban centers, an attack on urban center voting stations is an attack aimed against black people. It's always secondary effect which is their primary goal.
Have you? Removel of ballot boxes? They should be placed proportional to population but instead they will remove from predominantly black populated areas, give the republican state legislature the right to overturn any election? This is America not Russia, restrict mail in voting? These same individuals were saying two months ago the election was free and fair, no fraud, and no water, really? I had an uncle that was a criminal. Not just any criminal but the worst kind. He was involved in organized crime and everyone around him got qustioned about he's dealings. And it was always we are building a case. He died at 94 years of age. And never did a minute in jail. They had at least a dozen crimes that would put in jail but they were always building a case. I hope that's not what we're seeing with trump. Lock him up you have enough on him.

I am Canadian. What is happening in the US is troublesome to us for a number of reasons. Firstly we feel for you. Secondly, if democracy fails we fear we are in trouble. Few Canadians want our countries to join but we know we have lots of resources and we are vulnerable should a government of the US ever decide they want to own us.

It was shocking to me. Holy smokes! Yet, two hefty security police officers were hauling her away as office workers were trying to yell ..that she was a legislator. It’s just exhausting. They were like your own family with political issues as the best efforts to speak in public meetings. (My father went to Washington DC as an energy cooperative company board member for San Miguel Power Assoc. ) He loved telling me ...they rented a car and loved seeing the coal mine country of Western Virginia more than lobbying for citizen- based rural power plants . This should head to the SCOTUS. Passing legislation which can affect the voting rights (and public safety) of the people negatively is unconstitutional and needs to be jumped on from a great height.
The SCOTUS is the very one who gutted the civil rights laws in holder v. shelby.

Did the people of Georgia actually get to vote on this bill... before it became law?
What I don't understand is why make these changes when there was no substantial voter fraud in the first place. Limiting access to the ballot is not securing it. This makes no sense whatsoever. Another point is this set precedent for players worldwide.
The state police arrested the wrong person. The men in this picture supporting negating voters' voices should be the ones in handcuffs and in jail for felonies against fellow human beings.
