Its not burnt - its deeply caramelised.. So, when i cook on the Cadac i usually wang it on full blast to get the temp up, then i find I put it on its lowest setting, this works well for us, the hot temperature is maintained and it just cooks well, slow enough for me to faff around doing other things, sober up or drink a glass of wine. Ive never done a whole chicken, I might have to give that a go !! Cheers for the mention Andy. looking forward to seeing your project. Dan
+The Trudgians haha - yes I must use that phrase in future! In actual fact, the chicken was pretty good just the potatoes were inedible. The garage still smells like a BBQ, it was raining outside and I didn't fancy getting wet - I'm not some weirdo who likes cooking in their garage every Saturday you know :) Thanks for the tips using the Cadac, I couldn't believe my mistake... I like the 'to sober up or get a glass of wine'. Do a vid on Coq au Vin! Light project should be up soon - I hope.
Hi Andy. Looking at getting a cadac so decided to look at peoples videos. I’ve seen most of yours but not this one. Well fair play to you mate showing the mistakes 👏👏👏 As you say it’s a learning experience. I admire people who put content out like this it’s not a perfect world. I found it useful and funny at the same time and at the end showing the fossilised potatoes brilliant 😂😂😂😂. Thanks very much for sharing and hope you all stay safe.
Glad YOU made that mistake Andy. It might be the first thing we get right on our caravan adventures - for a change!!!!! Thank you. It was very informative. Look forward to seeing your light project - Lin
A very honest video, typical of the type of thing that I do! I've just bought a Cadac so I'm trolling through any source of information before using it. I will buy a roasting dish and, thanks to you, I'll set it up the way that you discovered is best. Keep up the good work.
Hi Andy, I remember this vid so well I think may be your first and a real learning lesson 😉 have continue to watch your channel improve and grow over the last couple of years and very much enjoy - what you see is what you get!! We are family of 4 with our kids a little older 11 & 14 and I've picked up some valuable hints. Together with Dan Trudgan, Andrew Ditton are my preferred channels to keep watching. Cheers Chris (ausssie living now in the Netherlands )
Hi Chris, thanks for dropping us a line, really appreciated. Ahh you’re not the first to say that they first found us by this vid 😂. I should really do a follow up video. Thanks for watching, Happy Caravanning. Andy
Thanks for the vid Andy. I'm wanting to by a Cadac when we get around to living in our van and plan to do most of the cooking on it, including roasts. So your honest video will hopefully help me. I did see Dan's suggestion so that is stored for future use as well. Thanks.
+John Cooke no problem. To be honest I should probably do an updated video with some decent results :) I think I’m almost there with perfecting it but it’s been a while since I’ve done one. Just so that you know, the Carri Chef 2 is massive! We’ve easily cooked for 10 people off the grill so I’d be inclined to buy the smaller versions to save £’s and payload if you don’t need the capacity. Thanks for watching. Andy
We had Cadac at our outdoor event this weekend and we roasted a chicken and a just a few tips: 1) Add everything to the roasting pan first with water or stock 2) Set to a low heat 3) Place lid and leave 4) Any burning smells or you can hear the chicken frying, simply add water to mix 5) Repeat 4 until cooked No need to turn the chicken, use the lid to give you the oven effect. Just seen your video really helpful as I fancy doing a chicken when we go camping Have you since cooked a chicken using your second method Also I thought you was meant to use a deflector plate as well when cooking the chicken
I think you should have got a Webber BBQ you can control it better . You may not be able to get one in the UK .the kids would love it because you can cook pizzas on it .I realy enjoyed the vid roger
Hi Lee, glad to humour you. It seems so long since I made this video that I can't believe it's still being watched - we have since perfected roasting Chicken! Thanks for watching. Andy
The chicken looks very tasty, shame about the roast tats, we have a very early Cadac and only fried things on it. Not sure if the accessories for the newer cadac would fit ours. Great Vid, looking forward to the nextcooking vid
+lensman2online it was good actually, though the spuds were inedible the chicken was alright! I'm sure you'd still be able to get some accessories! Another cooking vid?! Best get thinking of some ideas :)
We were at the caravan show toying with the idea of getting a cadac, we didn't in the end, 1 because we had just purchased a new air awning and three duvalays! and 2 we were struggling to work out how often we would use it! I see Dan Trudgian uses his for some nice looking fry ups and now seen you do the chicken but is it really worth the £220 price tag? I really don't know if I should invest in one!! Ps keep up the great vids 👍🏻 Been following you guys from the first vid 👍🏻
+Stuart Townshend hey, thanks for your comments! Sounds to me like you've done a pretty good job of spending of late so I can't fault you for thinking twice. One thing that might not be so apparent is how big the Carri Chef is, the cooking area is massive! Breaks down into a reasonable size and fits in our shower when we travel. There are bargains to be had online, we paid £169 from Homestead Caravans in Essex which included free next day delivery. As to how much you use it, I guess only you can answer that but there are some good accessories available. I've wanted one for years and had this as a birthday present! Cheers for sticking with us, not sure what next weeks upload will be yet :)
MakeWayWithTheMorleys I saw how big they were at the show and was quite impressed, like you I've wanted one for years, the cheapest I can find a Cadac Carri Chef 2 is online at £219!!! Or is yours the smaller one? At the show they had two sizes the slightly smaller one was on offer at £150
I’ve just come across this vid. Lmao absolutely brilliant! Btw I’ve just bought one of these and using your inspirational video as a tip for our first trip away in our caravan! 😂 Shane
please next time include safety about carbon monoxide from cooking in a confined space it's a deadly killer. place chicken in foil dish and move to one side with liquid in it this will keep it moist.
+ray hodges hi Ray, thanks for your comment, whilst I said "I've had to open the door" it was never closed whilst the BBQ was lit. You're right, it's worth mentioning. Thanks for the tips using foil! Will have to try this next time!
+Betty Biker what do you think could be under the cover at roughly 1minute? When I've worn down my current sliders I will be sure to cremate those spuds again :)

Cheers Paul, you wouldn’t believe how many people have said they came across this video of ours first. Enjoy the Cadac, we love ours, still!!
Glad YOU made that mistake Andy. It might be the first thing we get right on our caravan adventures - for a change!!!!! Thank you. It was very informative. Look forward to seeing your light project - Lin
+Home from Home with Lin & Rich thanks Lin :) I've got finish make the lights - eek
Great video and honest. Did you also say you cooked it at 300 deg?
No, 500 deg 😃

+John Champion cheers John! We've. Let perfected the roasting process :) A very handy bit of kit. So many accessories to buy though.

MakeWayWithTheMorleys Thanks Andy, I have taken on board what you have said about size as it's only two of us. John
This made me smile! So funny….So honest… 😂😂😂
Glad to be of service :) Thanks for watching, Andy

+Stuart Townshend this is where you find ours but prices have increased a little, www.homesteadcaravans.co.uk/cadac/ ours is the carri chef combo.
Beer can chicken is the best way to cook roast chicken on a bbq but not sure you would have enough clearance .
Oooh, worth looking into though. Thanks for the idea 💡 Andy
Were new at cadac
WHICH CADAC DO YOU HAVE?
Hi Maggie, we bought the Carri Chef 2 Combo - perfect for our family and their growing appetites! Andy
i did laugh allot .. top man ! just got mine will give it a go ...
Haha, I’ve since perfected it!
Great video, thanks for the tips :)
+twinsane1998 no problem, we have a progress report since then. Will hopefully be in the next vid :) Andy

Just buy a cooked one no waiting
Ever tried using two forks to turn a chicken over ? tongues are not the answer.
Slow is pro. Cheers.
She's a lovely bird
Haha, indeed!

The potatoes would make great knee sliders if you were a motor cyclist 🏍

Hahaha
