Taemin is the most distinctive and different K-pop artist as a solo artist. He is constantly praised for his high level of performing skills, dance, musicality, and artistry. I recommend checking out some of his other songs, like IDEA (which are narratively related to ADVICE), etc. He has seven years as a soloist of Korean and Japanese discography and 13 years with SHINee and the variety of his music is outstanding and laudable. He is admired and respected by critics, the public, as well as by many idols among juniors and seniors and the industry in general. None of his main songs are the same. In fact, he does not stick to a specific genre musically (clearly remarkable) which many critics call "T-pop" which defines it as his own genre in everything he does because in terms of musical sound, visuals , concepts, performance and dance Taemin is usually very creative and innovative and little "mainstream" but all in the most artistic way possible. ADVICE & IDEA are clear example of all the above. And that's part of what makes Taemin the greatest soloist, dancer, and performer of all time in K-pop history. because trust me that absolutely no one did, does and will do it like him. You have to watch his dance practice videos to really see how good he is. His footwork is amazing. Most dancers don't do much with their feet, but Taemin uses every part of his body. It's a total waste that he's in the army now.
Taemin was self taught and yes he even auditioned doing pop and lock. His SM Entertainment audition at the age of 11 (or age 13 according to his korean age) can be found on UA-cam.
This is my favorite MV of Taemin, along with Idea. This is Taemin in his element and I feel, the most Taemin-like. Definitely this choreo from Taemin is the most reminiscent of MJ for me. Taemin audition with popping to a Destiny's Child song. He watched it on tv and copied it until he learned. He did this with Micheal Jackson videos to some extent. Break dancing competitions or street dance crew survival shows would've been very popular at the time. I think that's probably where he got the popping from. He would've spent several years training in that style in SM. Shinee's early choreo has a lot of tutting. He also did some of the floor stuff. I think that's where he really honed in on his body control. He might not have taken lessons but worked with contemporary choreographers closely instead. Kai did have ballet training and, they both practiced together. Like they would sleep in the practice room so they could dance for longer. They would've definitely picked things up from each other. Like Kai would've known how to do turns properly. Also growing up as famously as he did, Taemin got a lot of shit from the media for being too pretty. Any appearance they did on any show would somehow involve getting him in a dress and wig. So that definitely made him set out to show people he wasn't a kid any more. Instead of turning to toxic and doing some misogynist to be "manly", he directed his frustrations more towards gender norms in general especially in dance. Male artists having female or mix-gender back up dancers isn't very common. SHINee worked with MJ's choreographer Tony Testa for "Sherlock" (2012). He must have liked SM well enough because he went on to work with SHINee and other SM artists. So Taemin would've spent some time dancing with him as well. SHINee's choreographer before that was a dancer for Janet Jackson. (SHINee's 2021 comeback title track was produced with Dem Jointz, another MJ connection via Janet Jackson.)

It's like a literal reincarnation. The second coming. Funny enough, over the years there's always been this ironic meme where many other idols would cosplay in full MJ replica outfits and entirely cover his songs or re-enact his exact moves and fans would say "Omg that's just LIKE Michael, they're doing a Michael Jackson tribute" but so often Taemin would just be standing there doing his own thing with a similar vibe or wear a single piece of clothing that resembles MJ's to some degree like the 1 glove or he'd just do a variation of a few moves as homage and all the while fans would straight up scream "That IS Michael Jackson!!! HE'S MICHAEL JACKSON"!!!!" lmfao i'd link a few clips from concert fancams of those hilarious moments but UA-cam seems to mark tweets in comments here as spam so gg I also remember years back that there was also a story about an older fan who attended MJ's concerts back in the day and have never felt any experience like that ever again until they attended some of Taemin's so that's pretty dope I'll always be so grateful in that after I grew up listening to and watching Michael, Prince, Madonna, and etc, my kids and others in the future generations can grow up doing the same with Taemin as a sort of all-in-1 package of their same distinct legendary energy and artistry But yeah all in all overall in the end like you said, he somehow manages to make it all uniquely and recognizably his own style and identity which not many can do You've been doing a great job thus far with these awesome videos so just continue on however is most comfortable and enjoyable for you!

He's respected by all artist and he's part of the groupe Shinee who're THE groupe who've bring everything in the kpop industry and its because of them that kpop is what it is today. It's not just fans who say that, it's a fact . The news just broke that after 7 months (of the total 18) Taemin is being transitioned into the public service branch of the military because of severe anxiety and depression. You have been so kind to him in your reaction videos. Please continue to react to his songs and support him. He needs everyone’s support right now more than ever. Unfortunately, there’s likely going to be a backlash over there about him not being able to complete his regular service. The more he knows that he has his fans support, the better. Thankfully, his family, his band mates and friends will be there for him. I just feel so bad for him.
Taemin is an all round top tier performer and a true star. His talent is exceptional. I agree with your referencing MJ and that Taemin is on the same level as Chris Brown, Usher and Justin Timberlake, each were influenced by MJ but they each have their uniqueness. At around 11 yrs old Taemin saw MJ and another dancing machine was born. Yes popping and locking are what he started with and he self taught. He was hired by SM at the open audition because of his dancing. I see in another comment the link to the video of his audition was provided.

I’m really happy you made reference to Chris Brown as well because ppl normally tries to ignore him bcuz of his past controversies but he’s exceptionally talented and we should give him that much. "Want" is so much more than people realize. If someone likes Taemin and appreciates his music, they will probably like "Want" for the seductiveness that Taemin is known for. However, for the Taemin fan who appreciates the fact that Taemin links his faith to many of his MVs/songs, it takes on an even deeper, more profound meaning. So, sit back, grab a beer or coffee, and let's dive into this masterpiece: (BTW: Taemin confirmed my analysis on one of his VLIVES when he was asked what the concept of "Want" was. He replied that it was taken from an Old Testament story of the Bible.) Taemin's faith is on full display here, but ingeniously hidden to those who don't subscribe to, or appreciate his worldview. During the introduction phase, we see alluring snippets of Taemin in various poses with snakes and smoke, however, you also see what looks like pools of blood (Christ was the ultimate sacrificial lamb whose blood covers the sins of the world). Taemin opens the MV by dancing in slow, hypnotic, snake-like movements. Snakes/Serpents, which represent the idea of the tempter in the Bible, (in the ancient Hebrew - which derives from Akkadian & Ugarit - the word "snake/serpent" ["nchsh"]), used in this particular way grammatically in Gen. 3, is a triple entendre meaning "divine shining being". The snake was ancient iconography denoting spiritual/godly figures. Eve wasn't talking with a snake, but an angel or some other divine shining being. Gardens and mountains were typical metaphors for where gods dwelt because gardens were rare and mountains were mostly inaccessible to ancient peoples of that time period. When trying to interpret the Bible, it's VERY IMPORTANT to leave your 21st Century glasses on the table and look at the wording and imagery from the ancient Israelites' perspective and the language, culture, and history of that time period - from the second millennial BC up through the 1st Century AD. Things don't mean what you think they do now. This is the BIGGEST reason why people denigrate and scoff at the Bible. In actuality, they make fun of it because they don't understand it. They are looking through their own understanding of how things are and what they mean NOW during the present time period --- BIG MISTAKE #1. BIG MISTAKE #2 is to assume all Christians think the Bible is a book of science. Not true. God chose a specific people, at a specific time and place to reveal himself. He had to use their understanding to make himself clear -- not your understanding or the understanding of 21st Century thinking. The lessons still apply today, but we are missing a huge chunk of the deeper meanings when ignorant of the puns, symbolism, metaphors and such. The magnifying glass forces us to focus on him, and only him, up close and personal. Look nowhere else, see how beautiful and alluring I am. The glowing, bright white shirt Taemin wears fits in perfectly with the symbolism for "shining" and "the light". The chief adversary of Christ, was Lucifer (MEANING: "Light Bearer", or "The Shining One"). As I explained earlier - divine shining being. Thus I wouldn't be surprised that this part of his wardrobe was very intentional. Taemin is all about the little details. Lucifer was supposedly the most beautiful angel....until he fell. (The word "satan" is a misnomer which actually means "messenger" in the ancient Hebrew/Aramaic, as in the incident with Job. It was actually a job description which became a proper noun later during the intertestamental period and then appeared in the NT.). In addition there are creepy demonic-looking beings around him at certain points when you slow it down. Although he's beautiful, he's hiding his demonic side in order to draw you in....a wolf in sheep's clothing. Just before the bridge, there is a brief shot of a neon red/orange cross behind him, and he mimics the posture of Christ on the cross (which is a signature pose for him as you see in many of his dance postures). In another scene, during the bridge, Taemin is elevated above the snakes and calls them to him because he's their father - the father of lies. The tempter in the garden was a master at twisting the truth, which lured Eve to sin, and she then led Adam to do the same. Behind him is a photo of him with his eyes covered: see no evil here, just gaze at my beauty and listen to what I say. People are blinded by beauty and inconvenient truth. It's more important to satisfy your own desires that to act on truth. You also get a visual of a solar eclipse. Again a reference to Christ's death on the cross, as there was (according to both the Bible and present day astronomers) a solar eclipse when Christ died on the cross. Even the lyrics reflect this theme: "The minute you take me in you'll be wanting more," in other words an addiction is formed. "....The sweetness of the forbidden apple...," tastes good, but once you get a little taste of sin, that which is forbidden, you'll want more and more because it "...awakens your senses," (in the Bible, when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they became aware of the "knowledge of good and evil") and you will continually "...thirst for more." He'll "....wake you up from the silence of your deep sea." In ancient biblical times, the "sea" was a metaphor for chaos, because it couldn't be controlled. People were afraid of it because it was mysterious; you couldn't see beneath the surface; many died in it's chaotic waters. This is why the Bible (in Revelation) says there will be no more seas = no more chaos. When Adam and Eve were awakened to knowledge of good and evil, chaos ensued upon the Earth. He'll "help you see a new world," but is this really a good new world when innocence is stripped from you? "I'm your toy, I'll make you innocent." Most toys appear innocent and signify the innocence you had as a young child, but the apple (forbidden fruit; actually scholars aren't sure what fruit it was) looked innocent too and "appeared" good to eat. Many poisonous things appear beautiful and delectable but those very qualities lure the unsuspecting victim to their death. Sin numbs you to immorality (truths become lies an vice-versa) and turns it into something "sweet" to the point it's justified and then those who can still see the corruption, try to warn people, or don't themselves partake of that sin, are shunned. It was the serpent who distorted the truth and tempted with the one "forbidden apple" rather than the other acceptable fruit (like the fruit of the Tree of Life). Sin invades so slowly, so subtly and satisfies your cravings to the point that you don't even realize it's happening until you're already addicted to it and scales form over your eyes (which were considered one of the ways to discern knowledge), and you have no clue because you're "...relying on your own self-control...moved by your body's and soul's" dark desires. The tempter says, "Open your eyes (to me. says Lucifer). What do you want? I'LL MAKE YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU NEVER KNEW." Exactly. Adam and Eve never knew sin, until the tempter tricked them and revealed all and after that, humanity has always wanted more. Temptation gives birth to greed, lust, jealousy....all the 7 deadly sins. Before you know it, you have been gently and seductively led right to Rodin's famous "Gates of Hell" sculpture at the end of the MV. You are left with a choice: 1) Embrace the sin and willingly go through those gates (Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden because they chose sin and God appointed Cherubim with swords of flame to guard the gates of Eden so no one could ever enter again. However, you can choose to enter the gates of Hell), or wash yourself clean in pure (holy) water (Christ promised to gift us with living water -- which was himself; his blood.), and there's only one way to do that - by believing in and accepting Christ as your savior. I'm sure there's probably much more that I've missed. You can see how Taemin's lyrics can be interpreted simply as they appear, or once you study the meticulous details that Taemin is famous for infusing into his work, you may find a message that's a little uncomfortable for some and more than you bargained for...lol. I 100% get what you were saying about how Taemin didn't just copy and paste. The way I think about is: Some people will see that influence (in this case MJ) and add themselves to it but Taemin saw that influence and added it to himself, just like how MJ saw James Brown and added that influence to himself. You can never be great being a copy, greatness comes from originality. Because Taemin added that influence to himself, he has a style that is all his own.
Taemin's "Want" is one of those songs that the lyrics take the song and performance up to the next level. :D The lyrics give the song and performance a whole other feel and it helps to explain the images and story you see being told in the MV. Many people think that "Want" has a vampire vibe, and I can see where some might get the vampire feel from this MV. After all, one of Taemin's nicknames is SHINee's eternal vampire because in some performances and MVs, the way he looks and the aesthetic of the performance gives him a vampire image. However, in "Want" Taemin is supposed to be portraying Lucifer. That's why he seems to have a love affair with those snakes. (The ones he is holding are real snakes.) And, like Lucifer, he is supposed to be seducing the audience and the girl using his devilish powers. Taemin is Catholic, and most of this MV showcases his faith as it tells the story using numerous Biblical references. Fun fact: That's not just any female dancer. The female dancer that you see highlighted in the MV is Yoo JiMin (Karina) who is the leader and main dancer of aespa. She participated in this song as a rookie trainee even before aespa's debut. (She was a trainee for about 7 years.) She also participated in some live performances of "Want." The style and aesthetic in "Want" is just the kind of vibe we have all come to expect from Taemin. He has a very sensual/sexy way of moving and, as a soloist, it's kind of his signature thing.That is why all his songs are titles such as "Danger," "Soldier" "Sexuality," "Tiger," "Press Your Number," "Guess Who," "Mystery Lover," "Hypnosis," "Crazy 4 U," "Flame of Love," " Under My Skin," "Thirsty," "Want," "Criminal," etc. or "Ace," "Already", "Door, "Pretty Boy," "Move" "Artistic Groove," "Famous," "Idea," etc. Each song is meant to show you exactly why he is one of the best in the industry even just by their titles. I find it interesting that all of his songs, with the titles alone, tell you exactly what Taemin is all about. If you look at all the titles of his songs, you will see that the titles convey one of two things about him, either painting a picture of his sexy and sensual onstage personality, or they explain his dedication and passion as an artist. The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. However, you will see that it will always be very Taemin-like. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D Taemin's style of dance can't be defined. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. (He started out by copying dancers that he saw on TV such as Michael Jackson and Kpop star Bi Rain. And he didn't have any formal training until he joined SM. As trainees, SM originally planned to make SHINee a hip-hop group, so Taemin's dance training started out focusing on hip-hop dance styles like popping and locking.) However, over the years, as you see with "Want," he has infused those popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him. If you like his dancing in the MV, you have to see his "Want" dance practice video to really understand how intricate and breathtaking Taemin is with this choreography. No one moves the way Taemin does.
Please do check out Taemin's dance-practice videos. He has many. The awesomeness of his dance is often lost in MVs (even livestages if the cameraman doesn't get it right!!) But DP videos are something else....the intricacies of his movements, the sharpness, the fluidic delicacies of even small movements he makes is super awesome to watch....it is your wish to make a reaction video or maybe just watch them on your own but do watch them....I think you will enjoy them a lot Also do dive into SHINee's music too... Taemin is the most distinctive and different K-pop artist as a solo artist. He is constantly praised for his high level of performing skills, dance, musicality, and artistry. I recommend checking out some of his other songs, like IDEA (which are narratively related to ADVICE), etc. He has seven years as a soloist of Korean and Japanese discography and 13 years with SHINee and the variety of his music is outstanding and laudable. He is admired and respected by critics, the public, as well as by many idols among juniors and seniors and the industry in general. None of his main songs are the same. In fact, he does not stick to a specific genre musically (clearly remarkable) which many critics call "T-pop" which defines it as his own genre in everything he does because in terms of musical sound, visuals , concepts, performance and dance Taemin is usually very creative and innovative and little "mainstream" but all in the most artistic way possible. ADVICE & IDEA are clear example of all the above. And that's part of what makes Taemin the greatest soloist, dancer, and performer of all time in K-pop history. because trust me that absolutely no one did, does and will do it like him. This is my favorite MV of Taemin, along with Idea. This is Taemin in his element and I feel, the most Taemin-like. Definitely this choreo from Taemin is the most reminiscent of MJ for me. Taemin audition with popping to a Destiny's Child song. He watched it on tv and copied it until he learned. He did this with Micheal Jackson videos to some extent. Break dancing competitions or street dance crew survival shows would've been very popular at the time. I think that's probably where he got the popping from. He would've spent several years training in that style in SM.
Shinee's early choreo has a lot of tutting. He also did some of the floor stuff. I think that's where he really honed in on his body control. He might not have taken lessons but worked with contemporary choreographers closely instead. Kai did have ballet training and, they both practiced together. Like they would sleep in the practice room so they could dance for longer. They would've definitely picked things up from each other. Like Kai would've known how to do turns properly.
Also growing up as famously as he did, Taemin got a lot of shit from the media for being too pretty. Any appearance they did on any show would somehow involve getting him in a dress and wig. So that definitely made him set out to show people he wasn't a kid any more. Instead of turning to toxic and doing some misogynist to be "manly", he directed his frustrations more towards gender norms in general especially in dance. Male artists having female or mix-gender back up dancers isn't very common.
SHINee worked with MJ's choreographer Tony Testa for "Sherlock" (2012). He must have liked SM well enough because he went on to work with SHINee and other SM artists. So Taemin would've spent some time dancing with him as well. SHINee's choreographer before that was a dancer for Janet Jackson.
(SHINee's 2021 comeback title track was produced with Dem Jointz, another MJ connection via Janet Jackson.)

Funny enough, over the years there's always been this ironic meme where many other idols would cosplay in full MJ replica outfits and entirely cover his songs or re-enact his exact moves and fans would say "Omg that's just LIKE Michael, they're doing a Michael Jackson tribute" but so often Taemin would just be standing there doing his own thing with a similar vibe or wear a single piece of clothing that resembles MJ's to some degree like the 1 glove or he'd just do a variation of a few moves as homage and all the while fans would straight up scream "That IS Michael Jackson!!! I also remember years back that there was also a story about an older fan who attended MJ's concerts back in the day and have never felt any experience like that ever again until they attended some of Taemin's so that's pretty dope
I'll always be so grateful in that after I grew up listening to and watching Michael, Prince, Madonna, and etc, my kids and others in the future generations can grow up doing the same with Taemin as a sort of all-in-1 package of their same distinct legendary energy and artistry

Taemin as an artist has a lot of layers, he is a beast onstage, a performance king during live stages and concerts very unique! he sings ballads and couple of belting songs too, his bsides are gold, he can be sensual, emotional, artistic and cute with his songs vocal delivery. The most versatile voice I've ever heard, you can give him any part of the song and rest assured he can sing it. He's really the most complete artist of this generation and as an MJ fan myself I'm glad I found him, I'm happy knowing we are living at the same time as him and he sits next to MJ in my heart :)

The news just broke that after 7 months (of the total 18) Taemin is being transitioned into the public service branch of the military because of severe anxiety and depression.
You have been so kind to him in your reaction videos. Please continue to react to his songs and support him. He needs everyone’s support right now more than ever. Unfortunately, there’s likely going to be a backlash over there about him not being able to complete his regular service. The more he knows that he has his fans support, the better. Thankfully, his family, his band mates and friends will be there for him. I just feel so bad for him.

Taemin is an all round top tier performer and a true star. His talent is exceptional. I agree with your referencing MJ and that Taemin is on the same level as Chris Brown, Usher and Justin Timberlake, each were influenced by MJ but they each have their uniqueness.
At around 11 yrs old Taemin saw MJ and another dancing machine was born. Yes popping and locking are what he started with and he self taught. He was hired by SM at the open audition because of his dancing. I see in another comment the link to the video of his audition was provided.

"Want" is so much more than people realize. If someone likes Taemin and appreciates his music, they will probably like "Want" for the seductiveness that Taemin is known for. However, for the Taemin fan who appreciates the fact that Taemin links his faith to many of his MVs/songs, it takes on an even deeper, more profound meaning.
So, sit back, grab a beer or coffee, and let's dive into this masterpiece: (BTW: Taemin confirmed my analysis on one of his VLIVES when he was asked what the concept of "Want" was. He replied that it was taken from an Old Testament story of the Bible.)
Taemin's faith is on full display here, but ingeniously hidden to those who don't subscribe to, or appreciate his worldview. During the introduction phase, we see alluring snippets of Taemin in various poses with snakes and smoke, however, you also see what looks like pools of blood (Christ was the ultimate sacrificial lamb whose blood covers the sins of the world). Taemin opens the MV by dancing in slow, hypnotic, snake-like movements. Snakes/Serpents, which represent the idea of the tempter in the Bible, (in the ancient Hebrew - which derives from Akkadian & Ugarit - the word "snake/serpent" ["nchsh"]), used in this particular way grammatically in Gen. 3, is a triple entendre meaning "divine shining being". The snake was ancient iconography denoting spiritual/godly figures. Eve wasn't talking with a snake, but an angel or some other divine shining being. Gardens and mountains were typical metaphors for where gods dwelt because gardens were rare and mountains were mostly inaccessible to ancient peoples of that time period. When trying to interpret the Bible, it's VERY IMPORTANT to leave your 21st Century glasses on the table and look at the wording and imagery from the ancient Israelites' perspective and the language, culture, and history of that time period - from the second millennial BC up through the 1st Century AD. Things don't mean what you think they do now. This is the BIGGEST reason why people denigrate and scoff at the Bible. In actuality, they make fun of it because they don't understand it. They are looking through their own understanding of how things are and what they mean NOW during the present time period --- BIG MISTAKE #1. BIG MISTAKE #2 is to assume all Christians think the Bible is a book of science. Not true. God chose a specific people, at a specific time and place to reveal himself. He had to use their understanding to make himself clear -- not your understanding or the understanding of 21st Century thinking. The lessons still apply today, but we are missing a huge chunk of the deeper meanings when ignorant of the puns, symbolism, metaphors and such.
The magnifying glass forces us to focus on him, and only him, up close and personal. Look nowhere else, see how beautiful and alluring I am. The glowing, bright white shirt Taemin wears fits in perfectly with the symbolism for "shining" and "the light". The chief adversary of Christ, was Lucifer (MEANING: "Light Bearer", or "The Shining One"). As I explained earlier - divine shining being. Thus I wouldn't be surprised that this part of his wardrobe was very intentional. Taemin is all about the little details. Lucifer was supposedly the most beautiful angel....until he fell. (The word "satan" is a misnomer which actually means "messenger" in the ancient Hebrew/Aramaic, as in the incident with Job. It was actually a job description which became a proper noun later during the intertestamental period and then appeared in the NT.). In addition there are creepy demonic-looking beings around him at certain points when you slow it down. Although he's beautiful, he's hiding his demonic side in order to draw you in....a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Just before the bridge, there is a brief shot of a neon red/orange cross behind him, and he mimics the posture of Christ on the cross (which is a signature pose for him as you see in many of his dance postures). In another scene, during the bridge, Taemin is elevated above the snakes and calls them to him because he's their father - the father of lies. The tempter in the garden was a master at twisting the truth, which lured Eve to sin, and she then led Adam to do the same. Behind him is a photo of him with his eyes covered: see no evil here, just gaze at my beauty and listen to what I say. People are blinded by beauty and inconvenient truth. It's more important to satisfy your own desires that to act on truth. You also get a visual of a solar eclipse. Again a reference to Christ's death on the cross, as there was (according to both the Bible and present day astronomers) a solar eclipse when Christ died on the cross.
Even the lyrics reflect this theme: "The minute you take me in you'll be wanting more," in other words an addiction is formed. "....The sweetness of the forbidden apple...," tastes good, but once you get a little taste of sin, that which is forbidden, you'll want more and more because it "...awakens your senses," (in the Bible, when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they became aware of the "knowledge of good and evil") and you will continually "...thirst for more." He'll "....wake you up from the silence of your deep sea." In ancient biblical times, the "sea" was a metaphor for chaos, because it couldn't be controlled. People were afraid of it because it was mysterious; you couldn't see beneath the surface; many died in it's chaotic waters. This is why the Bible (in Revelation) says there will be no more seas = no more chaos. When Adam and Eve were awakened to knowledge of good and evil, chaos ensued upon the Earth. He'll "help you see a new world," but is this really a good new world when innocence is stripped from you? "I'm your toy, I'll make you innocent." Most toys appear innocent and signify the innocence you had as a young child, but the apple (forbidden fruit; actually scholars aren't sure what fruit it was) looked innocent too and "appeared" good to eat. Many poisonous things appear beautiful and delectable but those very qualities lure the unsuspecting victim to their death. Sin numbs you to immorality (truths become lies an vice-versa) and turns it into something "sweet" to the point it's justified and then those who can still see the corruption, try to warn people, or don't themselves partake of that sin, are shunned. It was the serpent who distorted the truth and tempted with the one "forbidden apple" rather than the other acceptable fruit (like the fruit of the Tree of Life).
Sin invades so slowly, so subtly and satisfies your cravings to the point that you don't even realize it's happening until you're already addicted to it and scales form over your eyes (which were considered one of the ways to discern knowledge), and you have no clue because you're "...relying on your own self-control...moved by your body's and soul's" dark desires. The tempter says, "Open your eyes (to me. says Lucifer). What do you want? I'LL MAKE YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU NEVER KNEW." Exactly. Adam and Eve never knew sin, until the tempter tricked them and revealed all and after that, humanity has always wanted more. Temptation gives birth to greed, lust, jealousy....all the 7 deadly sins. Before you know it, you have been gently and seductively led right to Rodin's famous "Gates of Hell" sculpture at the end of the MV. You are left with a choice: 1) Embrace the sin and willingly go through those gates (Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden because they chose sin and God appointed Cherubim with swords of flame to guard the gates of Eden so no one could ever enter again. However, you can choose to enter the gates of Hell), or wash yourself clean in pure (holy) water (Christ promised to gift us with living water -- which was himself; his blood.), and there's only one way to do that - by believing in and accepting Christ as your savior. I'm sure there's probably much more that I've missed.
You can see how Taemin's lyrics can be interpreted simply as they appear, or once you study the meticulous details that Taemin is famous for infusing into his work, you may find a message that's a little uncomfortable for some and more than you bargained for...lol.

I 100% get what you were saying about how Taemin didn't just copy and paste. The way I think about is: Some people will see that influence (in this case MJ) and add themselves to it but Taemin saw that influence and added it to himself, just like how MJ saw James Brown and added that influence to himself. You can never be great being a copy, greatness comes from originality. Because Taemin added that influence to himself, he has a style that is all his own.

Taemin's "Want" is one of those songs that the lyrics take the song and performance up to the next level. :D The lyrics give the song and performance a whole other feel and it helps to explain the images and story you see being told in the MV.
Many people think that "Want" has a vampire vibe, and I can see where some might get the vampire feel from this MV. After all, one of Taemin's nicknames is SHINee's eternal vampire because in some performances and MVs, the way he looks and the aesthetic of the performance gives him a vampire image. However, in "Want" Taemin is supposed to be portraying Lucifer. That's why he seems to have a love affair with those snakes. (The ones he is holding are real snakes.) And, like Lucifer, he is supposed to be seducing the audience and the girl using his devilish powers. Taemin is Catholic, and most of this MV showcases his faith as it tells the story using numerous Biblical references.
Fun fact: That's not just any female dancer. The female dancer that you see highlighted in the MV is Yoo JiMin (Karina) who is the leader and main dancer of aespa. She participated in this song as a rookie trainee even before aespa's debut. (She was a trainee for about 7 years.) She also participated in some live performances of "Want."
The style and aesthetic in "Want" is just the kind of vibe we have all come to expect from Taemin. He has a very sensual/sexy way of moving and, as a soloist, it's kind of his signature thing.That is why all his songs are titles such as "Danger," "Soldier" "Sexuality," "Tiger," "Press Your Number," "Guess Who," "Mystery Lover," "Hypnosis," "Crazy 4 U," "Flame of Love," " Under My Skin," "Thirsty," "Want," "Criminal," etc. or "Ace," "Already", "Door, "Pretty Boy," "Move" "Artistic Groove," "Famous," "Idea," etc. Each song is meant to show you exactly why he is one of the best in the industry even just by their titles. I find it interesting that all of his songs, with the titles alone, tell you exactly what Taemin is all about. If you look at all the titles of his songs, you will see that the titles convey one of two things about him, either painting a picture of his sexy and sensual onstage personality, or they explain his dedication and passion as an artist.
The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. However, you will see that it will always be very Taemin-like. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D
Taemin's style of dance can't be defined. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. (He started out by copying dancers that he saw on TV such as Michael Jackson and Kpop star Bi Rain. And he didn't have any formal training until he joined SM. As trainees, SM originally planned to make SHINee a hip-hop group, so Taemin's dance training started out focusing on hip-hop dance styles like popping and locking.) However, over the years, as you see with "Want," he has infused those popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him.
If you like his dancing in the MV, you have to see his "Want" dance practice video to really understand how intricate and breathtaking Taemin is with this choreography. No one moves the way Taemin does.

Please do check out Taemin's dance-practice videos. He has many. The awesomeness of his dance is often lost in MVs (even livestages if the cameraman doesn't get it right!!) But DP videos are something else....the intricacies of his movements, the sharpness, the fluidic delicacies of even small movements he makes is super awesome to watch....it is your wish to make a reaction video or maybe just watch them on your own but do watch them....I think you will enjoy them a lot
Also do dive into SHINee's music too... I can sense that you would definitely love their work after watching almost all your reactions for Taemin and SHINee......they have a 13 and a half years long worth of work.... besides having a decade of Japanese discography too (they are immensely popular in Japan too) .......And SHINee members solo stuff too....Jonghyun, Key, Minho and Onew.....all of them have solo work too.....they all have very unique different styles yet there is an invisible thread that binds them... that's the SHINee colour of music......
