Sonic Youth use effects pedals to compliment their obscure tunings. I don't get why people bash using effects, they are fun to play around with and can add a whole new level to tone and expression.
I'm not going to get to comment on everything, but your vids are fucking rad man. Thanks for sharing these. if you ever transcribe these to a tab browser, your site would get 1000 hits per second; I know from all the times I've searched DLJ and SY tabs to little avail
Yo man! This is great. Would love to put together an SY type of band, but don't know anyone local. Was thinking of making some original tracks and sharing song files back and forth via internet. This works with electronic music, so why the fuck not with guitar. Anyhow, Cheers!
actually I know for a fact they used a lot of pedals throughout their career and they used to mod them for very unique tones. Thurston loved his mxr phase 90 pedal. maybe you guys should read about their biographies because it tells you what guitars they owned and how they used to set them up and what pedals/guitars they used during specific time periods.
@slackerVK thanks for the reply! actually im pretty sure theres a chorus there, at least a reverb, but both can come from the amp.. right on the start, you cant do this sound only by detuning, or using distortion. though i agree with you, most other things are simply detuning, no effects implied. once i saw lee using a dan electro wasabi, but besides that i never saw any other chorus
www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/tab/tuning.html this page has all of their tunings used in alphabetical order and tells you whether to tune up or down from standard EADGBE, just scroll down and find the one for this song. You should also know though that some of their tunings require restringing your guitar and putting in different gauges where you normally wouldn’t, but there’s a good chunk of songs you should be able to tune to without restringing!
@slackerVK than if im not mistaken youre not using any, right? just playing along unplugged? im trying to find out which chorus sonic youth uses but cant find anywhere

These songs would still sound great without the tunings tbh thats not a good criticism
@@Owen-ne6pe not sure about that one...
@@Owen-ne6pe disagree
@@Owen-ne6pe no, they sound really weird in Standard

Good work but wish you played lee ranaldo's part he did great work on this one.
Can you do it ?
Probably my single favorite SY guitar part...just what is he doing?
@@mousiedung EEEEF#F#, from there the part is pretty easy to figure out since his and Moore's parts are quite distinct in tone.
that's awesome. you nailed Thurston's part
Brilliant. Loved it. Your Jazzy is gorgeous too.
