Every star in h'wood must have thanked their lucky stars to have Thelma in their movies as the knew she'd make it greater. Theyd also have to watch she wouldnt " steal " the movie underneath them by her pure excellence!!
Thelma Ritter should have won an Oscar Award that’s right she was a classic iconic superstar I love all her films incredible talent and beautiful actress I’ll never forget her she’s one in a million
Sweet movie! Thelma Ritter has to be one of the most natural actresses ever! She has the ability to make the audience feel all kinds of emotions, in her plain, understated, witty way! She endears us to her with her naive & loving authenticity!!
What a gem!!! I’m so delighted to have seen this. Thelma Ritter, Mildred Natwick and Gene Lockhart! A dream cast to be sure ... and what a clever storyline. Loved every minute of it. Thank you for sharing.
Thank You for reprising one of Mrs. Ritter's classic films... Our world today is sadly in need of this type of talent... we have so few (if any) that can shine through all the PC and "instant stardom" of today's garbage... Gone too early, and missed so much.
Always loved seeing her in a movie. And I love the way this one shows the true ugliness and the true beauty of people because it reflects what is most important to them. That is a lesson we all can learn from.
Powerful film to everyone who has a love for the awesome gifts of our artistic people. The line that is said; The one thing that can never be taken from us our memories.
@Jannet I'm watching Thelma now in "Christopher Bean". My favorite of hers is "Pickup on South Street" with Richard Widmark. One of my top 10 favorite movies.
@@zebratangozebra The strange thing is a vast amount of people with Alzheimer’s remember things from decades ago, but have no idea what they did five minutes ago. They still have their memories.
I'm thunderstruck. I had never even heard of this movie, and I've been a Thelma Ritter Gal for decades. This woman had talent that few could even come close to. Such a natural! WOW. I love Gene Lockhart, and boy was he easy to despise, along with Mildred Natwick!! Thank you for this amazing film!
I loved Thelma Ritter ever since I was a child. She gave me a heart-warming feeling in all her outings of the 40's, 50's and 60's. She essayed character-parts like no other. The flow of her dialogue delivery was so very natural, you got the feeling that she was talking exclusively to you. She could take the place of your mother or aunt and those roles endeared her to the audience. It pained me to see her die in "Pickup on South Street" with Richard Widmark and Jean Peters; She was brilliant in "Ill Get By" with June Haver and Gloria DeHaven where she played the trouble-shooting assistant with ease. Thelma possessed a workaholism that helped escalate her cinematic currency. Many movie buffs would insist on seeing a movie just because Thelma had a featured part in it. That's the clout she commanded from the audience that loved her. I'll stick my neck out by stating that "there will never ever be another character actress who could rival Thelma Ritter's achievements!!!
What an awesome film with such a great message of true art appreciation over greed An the wonderful happy poetic justice ending A beautiful story! Thank you for posting! My grandpa Frances Joesph Mallen Original ICC Director>> started painting beautiful pictures in his 80's Thanks to the greedmongers who littterally stole the very paintings and everything else off my grand parents and Aunt Margie's walls I have nothing but the memories in my heart. There was also a very wonderful artist I had become very close to his name was Stefano Sideras he was from Greece. Besides Van Gough and Monet Mr. Sideras is my only other favorite artist. Mr. Sideras who had a very thick Greek accent came to our home with his wife and family once he was well up in age. He came down my basement stairs to observe my collection of things. He was the only one ever who saw what I had collected ( all gone now of course) Not as just stuff rather Through the eyes if s true artist And with his heavy accent and child like wonder he responded ; Julia it looks like it's now here an American Museum. This wonderful film brought back some great memories for me watching my friend Angela's dad painting masterpieces first hand. And having the privilege to watch him teach my son and his grand children how to paint. Artists like musicians are the memory books of our souls beauty expressed on canvas and lyrical harmonic flow that makes our world No matter the hardships a more beautiful place! Thank you for posting this gemstone of a film! 😊
I don't think enough accolades have been given to Ms. Ritter, and she deserves as many as any "star" she ever acted with. Drama or comedy were as natural to her as breathing. I haven't seen every project she was in, but some roles were mesmerizing. Just watch her go "head to head" with Bette Davis in "All About Eve". She leaves no survivors when she's done stealing a scene!!!
The first time I remember seeing M.s Ritter was in "Miracle on 34th Street". She had a small uncredited part as a frustrate mother unable to find the toy her boy wanted. Glad you put Ms. Ritter's name up front, that is definitely an attention getter. Any movie with Ms. Ritter is a joy to watch and most times, repeatedly. January 11, 2024 THANK YOU!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a sweet movie so adorable I love it! Thelma Ritter she was in Rear Window she was great in that show, She owned her role she did.. She molded herself to be that character so cool.
I saw this actress as a child in Western movies and thought of her as genuine in her parts (even if I did it know she was acting & getting paid to do so).
Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed watching it. she was such a great actress. they all were. loved her movies. She is like a twin to another friends mom I was raised around too. she always reminds me of her too.
An example of how money can corrupt even a poor country doctor who has difficulty in getting paid by his patients and how true love is not corruptible.
This is amazing and hilarious! I came here trying to find out who Thelma Ritter was, based on reading a reference to her in a Daniel Clowes book. What a treat this movie was, especially as I have a good friend who is a well-respected painter in Texas and this show is very germane to any painter who wants to be remembered.
Wow. . . I grew up in the 50's and 60's admiring Thelma Ritter in so many movies. She was an American Icon and a lovely character. She was in " The Misfits " with Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. A must see movie!
I came across this accidentally and when I saw Thelma Ritter was in it I had to watch it. I have only one negative remark to make, it was too short. I admit the writer(s) created a screenplay that got across the key elements allotted for the short period of air time but this was well worth at least 90 minutes. The entire cast did fine jobs of portraying who they really were but who could take their eyes off Thelma Ritter? A great short story I highly recommend. I would love to have the portrait of her from this movie. I'll stop now before my comments exceed the length of this film. Thank you for posting this gem.
this movie was a beautiful love story with an awesome writer behind it had substance and a moral obligation regarding wealthy educated families, love and marriages that were traditionally arranged marriages without the choice of their children to fall in love with who they so choose.
Thanks so much for posting this Alan - your channel is a delightful find of all sorts of gems! The wonderful Thelma Ritter was an incredible actress who had a record six Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress - still unsurpassed today. Sadly, Thelma never was awarded the honor, but had this very talented lady lived longer (she unexpectedly passed away just before her 67 birthday) I think Hollywood would have rightly bestowed one upon her. Cheers to all!
I've never seen Gene Lockhart and Mildred Natwick play such deviously greedy, loathsome characters as they did in this telepic. Kudos to their acting, and of course to the wonderful Thelma Ritter!
I love Thelma Ritter in anything she does. I' m not a huge fan of Marie Dressler but I can't imagine her in this tender part and I'm sure she couldn't have done better than Thelma. S
Such a lovely movie. Thank you. I love the Actress who played Aunt Abbey. Sorry I Forget her name. After all her hard work , they only wanted to rob her of the one thing she Loved and Cherished. LOVED THE ENDING. 🤗⚘🤗⚘🤗⚘🕆⚘
My favorite supporting actress of all time. She should have won an Academy for Rear Window. She had the best lines.
Wonderful story and you can't go wrong with Thelma Ritter! Big thumbs up!
Every star in h'wood must have thanked their lucky stars to have Thelma in their movies as the knew she'd make it greater. Theyd also have to watch she wouldnt " steal " the movie underneath them by her pure excellence!!
I think you expressed it perfectly! Miss Ritter never failed to make a film better by being in it.
Agree. She was a honey. ❤
Perfect explanation! Rear Window and Pillow Talk wouldn’t have been half as good without her
ABSOLUTELY 😘
Absolutely correct

A group of really wonderful actors from back in the days when good movies were made. Ritter, Lockhart, Natwick, and Joslyn. Thank you.
O
New to everyone but Ritter.
Thelma Ritter is one of my favorite actresses . Than k you for posting this video.
I agree! Thelma was a gem.
I loved her in the Mating Season (1951). She lights up any film she is in. I just love her!
Always loved seeing her in a movie. And I love the way this one shows the true ugliness and the true beauty of people because it reflects what is most important to them. That is a lesson we all

Awe, what a joy to see my favorite museum figure into the story. ❤
Always loved her performances. What a gem of a short movie. Thank you for posting.
What a charming story! And Thelma Ritter is just fabulous.
What a wonderful story and great performances. I've seen every film with Thelma Ritter. One of my favorites.
The Dressler film, which was her last, is now considered lost. Thelma's version is all there is.
She was truly one of the great ones! Sparkled like a diamond in every performance she was ever in.
I just love anything Miss Ritter is in. And add Mildred to that & you have 100% a winner!💎
Such a beautiful film I've seen it before. So many valuable life lessons about the best and worst of human nature.
Wonderful! Thank you for this gem.
