happy sunday! ✨ there are definitely so many pros and cons when living alone in nyc... and sometimes the bad experiences really overweigh the good. I remember it did for me in the beginning even though it was so liberating to live alone. so what do you think, is it worth it?!

I lived in NYC for 14 years. Back in 2004 (I know - a long time ago), I moved into an apartment in Midtown East (Manhattan) with 2 gay male roommates (they were a couple). It was a duplex with an upstairs and downstairs. The total rent was $2400/mo, of which I paid $1200. I slept downstairs and had my own bathroom. It was technically illegal to do this because there was no window. We had a piece of egg crate foam at the top of the stairs to separate their living space from mine. It worked amazingly well until they bought a place in Jackson Heights, Queens. I wanted to keep the apartment and I advertised for a roommate. This woman seemed "nice" upon meeting her and there was another woman I was considering as well but she didn't have her cell phone for a few days so she didn't respond when I contacted her to offer her the place. By the time she got back to me, I had offered the "nice" woman the spot in my duplex apartment. The "nice" woman had always wanted to live in NYC and was moving from Memphis, TN to be a nanny to a couple on the Upper West Side.
That year turned out to be a living hell on a lot of levels. I had always thought that if I could find a good roommate in NYC that it could really accentuate life in the City. I had gone over specifically what I was looking for in a roommate and she made it seem like our goals were in alignment. (Lesson learned - don't go by people's words alone.) I worked in healthcare at the time, had two demanding jobs, and this living situation was a complete nightmare. That was almost 20 years ago and that was the last time I lived with anyone. We both moved out after the lease was up and I feel like God rewarded me with my next apartment, which was a studio for $1600/mo in the East Village. That was very expensive for me at the time but I took it and lived there for 3 years. I absolutely loved living in the East Village and I loved that apartment even though it was only 307 square feet. All this to say that I would rather live in a small studio than with roommates unless you know the people extremely well. Because you will be dealing with your roommates' life and living habits in addition to your own. Maybe that works for some people but it didn't for me. Sorry for the long comment. Love your channel and all the best to you. Enjoy your time in NYC for however long you're there.

I thought when I first moved out I'd be living alone, but I do have roommates. I think they're great people, but I've known that I don't enjoy living with people. Sometimes it feels if I don't clean things don't get clean, but I don't want to feel like the only person cleaning. I think finding roommates is hard because not everyone is aware of their habits so it's hard to vet by just talking. Again, they are great people, but at this point in time not my favorite living partners because our habits don't align

You are gonna have to be one of the most realist, down to earth NYC influencer i have ever see, men or women. There is not an air of fakeness in your video and your discourse. As an almost middle aged men who will never live in NYC but are always interested in how others make it there, it's sad to watch so many fake people making fake videos and attitudes then I found this channel. You are an artist yet I think your world view is very realistic and you don't mind share those with the greater world.

@@mohuyakhan It feels refreshed to see how normal people try to make it in NYC for a change. Anyone who dig a little deeper can find all the other NYC influencers are packed with cash from somewhere else and trying to present themselves as the norm. Meanwhile I get to follow someone who is raised in a normal family and have a normal budget and a normal mindset just trying to make your way up in NYC. I did something similar in SoCal and did end up with my dream job out of college, but eventually even that faded away and decided to move away from the really big metros and moved to a smaller size city to settle, but I am always interested in how other people make it in a crowded and competitive American city. Sad thing is most I saw on social media are the rich and suburban kids bankrolling their trust funds showing off.

Congrats on traveling to Paris alone. Bravo. Once I traveled internationally from NYC alone and was never alone as I stayed in hostels, I never traveled with anyone again. 30 plus countries as a female solo traveler, I still prefer it even though I am married. It's the perfect time to explore your passions, learn about yourself and make long life friends abroad that you can visit you and vice versa. Traveling in groups could be fun, but usually it can get complicated as you don't really end up doing what you really want to do in order to please others or have to rush whatever it is you want to do and even a new meeting with a traveler or local. I encourage you to travel more alone internationally and if you want to meet people, stay in a single room within a hostel in case you don't like the idea of sharing a room with other travelers then later on you can try it and I guaranteed, your world will become richer and bigger from all the incredible travelers you will share a room with. If you have any questions on female solo traveler, you can hit me up on my email! Btw, your video was on point! Nothing like living alone in NYC although expensive.
