Bring back memories… my son was born here and I still remember they made him wear a tiny onesie with print “I’m a bit burger.” Sweet memories. Thank you for posting this.
Wow! Lived in Bitburg 1960 to 62 - we were in Kaiserslautern before that. Loved the tour - I'm sending it to my brother. We lived in 30 A2 and I got a good look at it. No surprise that it was raining while you were driving around - I was surprised that it's all deserted now- it also has a lot more landscaping now - big trees and plantings...when we were there it was sorta barren..it was such a vibrant community when I live there. BTW, the first high school was the far left hallways on the one story main school. Then in 61, they built us the "new" high school which was a two story building just over and behind the teen club. Now I see a fancy new, new high school was built later. Yeah Bitburg Barons!!
Building 2 across from the BX loading dock … 1969-1972. 3rd and 4th grades. 2 of the best years of my life. Left Bitburg at age 9 not to return until in my early 40’s w my mom for a visit. Was cool to see it in person just over 30 years later. Lived in Gateway Gardens at Rhein Main AFB prior to Bitburg. Gateway Gardens is demolished now but did I get to see during my visit with my mom 35 years later before it was demolished.
Old memories for myself, we were stationed there from '92 - '96. Middle School was the domain underneath the Tah Maj Hal and school dances. Good Days at the AYA. Playing "Man-Hunt" with the friends. I missed the Bizzare and Air Show that went on on the "other side" of Bitburg before it shut down. Commissary ... Ice Skating...The One Show theater ... I could go on and on and on. Miss it all. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for posting this. I was there from 85-89. You drove right by our building 13. Interesting how many fond memories, Bitburg brings so many of us. Definitely, a place in time that is cherished.
This breaks my heart to see it closed!! We lived there from 92-95 and 99-02. Two of my children were born at the hospital on Bitburg and I worked at both the BX and the Commissary down the hill.
It was really sad to see everything so overgrown in 2019.’ We went to Spangdahlem too, and they were just finishing the high school. Since they’re closing the base Spangdalm, I don’t know if they even opened the school.
Wow, memories. Spent my 5th grade and part of my 6th grade here. We lived directly across from the school. I used to leave school, walk across the street to go home and grab a bite to eat at lunch time, and then go back to school. LOL
I was living in building 11 next to the gas station during this video 🤣 my son was 3 months old, my husband was about to deploy and we lived on the annex for another year or so before they moved us off in late 2014. Good times. Now it's officially closed..sad.
Thank you for the video. I was stationed at Bitburg AB from 1988-1992. I had the distinct pleasure of playing on the 1990-1991 Biturg Mens Basketball Team for the legendary George I. Price. We were USAFE Champs four years in a row!
Wow, what a ride down memory lane. I lived in building 46, across the street from the PX and commissary, next door to the Chapel and Base Commander. We arrived in 1972 and I graduated from BHS in 1979.
Oh my God. This is amazing. My dad was a night manager at the NCO club. We lived at 17 A-3 Ingalls Court. I use to slip out the side gate, past the French barracks and into town to go to the toy store in the square. 1967 - 1970. I got a little excited for a moment. You really brought back some memories. Thank you. Very surreal!!! Will share this with my kids and grandkids.
Stationed at Bitburg 77-80 lived off base but spent many hours on base I worked at the Sports Shop and my husband was a Crew Chief. He played football for The mighty Barons and we traveled with the team. Such fun.
What a trip. My dad was stationed at Spang AFB and we had temporary quarters at Bitburg. This was in 1962 or 1963. As I recall there was a cherry orchard across the street and down the hill from our apartment where all of us kids would go and eat our fill and then some. Thanx for the memories!
Thanks for the tour I was at Bitburg from 86 to 88 never much went on the family side I lived in the dorms I worked at the post office I loved it thanks for the tour.
Thank you. We were there '61 to '64. That was a long time ago and a lot of changes. but it mostly stayed the same. Great memories and we all talk about going back to visit.
We moved to Bittburg in 1974 when I was a year old and lived off base than moved to base housing. I have childhood memories going back when I was 3 years old. I loved it there. My favorite place was the daycare center. I know that sounds strange but it was. We lived in. Building 23 F6. Which was the third floor stairwell F apartment 6.
Thanks for posting. Was there 86-90. Went to Middle school then to 10th grade at the High School. Was there when they opened the first McDonalds right off base, man that McDonalds was packed for the couple of months straight. I'll need to go back and visit just like you guys did. That would be trippy :)
You all passed by bldg 33 where I lived (79-81). Went to the middle school where our band director, Mr. Kelb started the marching band. Also played in concert band. Used to go home for lunch since we lived down the hill. Wow, can't believe base is basically shut down.
I don't fully remember, but wasn't there a separate little building for kindergarten? I remember outside of it was a huge playground kind of off in the distance. I lived off of base for 6 years and went to kindergarten here. I believe Ms. Milletec was her name?
that hill by the hospital used to be the base fire department. for the housing area. used to go set there on the hill and smoke with other kids. hell ill admit i got my first lay. on top of the fire department . there were hedges around then. could ave been bushes. 5:42
Thank you for showing this. My Dad was stationed there from 71-75. My Mom worked at the BX. I went to the elementary school from 1st to part of fourth graded. Building 4-C-3.
Thanks for sharing . . . Bitburg Baron until i Die! My family and I arrived in Bitburg in 1971. We left my after my Freshman year in 1976. That was the 1st year of the New then High School. This is probably the closet to going back that I'll ever get. So, thanks again.
I lived in Building 50 E3 and F3 i went to the CDC's on Spangdahlem. Went to kindergarten to 4th grade at Bitburg Elementary. And ad half a year of 5th grade at Bitburg Middle School. I miss those days
I am so happy u went by the movie theater n commissary. I went to that church . then u went by my school.. my brother graduate Bitburg HS In. 1969. I am hoping I show the fire station and show me the front. I. the 60s there was the cutest little fish pond with a woodcutter that would cut wood with the water wheel.
Just came across your comment, I knew a Charles W. Johnson , we called him Wayne, but he way in my class, class of '68. Please post a reply if that was him.
I was at Spang, mid 90's. I like these videos but they're hard to watch, it was such an awesome assignment there and time in my life and it went by in a blink, I miss the hell out of it and the people I worked with and the passage of time sucks. Germany is awesome.
5:00 It's behind you, up the hill on your 5 o'clock (behind housing near the commissary) ... God it hurt watching this. So many memories growing up around that high school and on Spangdahlem ... :(
What amazes me is the absence of broken windows and graffiti! Look at any US Base that is partially or totally abandoned: they look like war zones, like several unmentionable cities in US.
I'm so disappointed! I've been trying to find pictures or videos of my old building (37 E1) past 2008 but I can't find any. About 8 minutes in, you pass by but film the opposite side of the street. I remember once walking into C1 on my way back from school- I didn't know them and they were home at the time. I left before anybody noticed.
2:06 igt tere on te end used to go to te book stoor and buy my Comix and Hardyboys back in 70s. anks for te tour. brings back child hood memories.
Bring back memories… my son was born here and I still remember they made him wear a tiny onesie with print “I’m a bit burger.” Sweet memories. Thank you for posting this.

Was JR's still open when you were there? It had moved down past the post office, close to the CDC.
How old were your kids when you lived there??

My Dad played football for the Barons during that time!!!
Wow, what a ride down memory lane. I lived in building 46, across the street from the PX and commissary, next door to the Chapel and Base Commander. We arrived in 1972 and I graduated from BHS in 1979.
Tearing up. My home was Bldg 47 right behind the theater. I loved Germany and Bit.
I teared up seeing the building we lived in and everything else we called home for over 4 years. I still miss it and it has been almost 20 years
Oh my God. This is amazing. My dad was a night manager at the NCO club. We lived at 17 A-3 Ingalls Court. Really wish i could see my old elementary school again.
The one on Spang, with the woods on one side - north end of the housing development?

The building on the right, before the fire department, is the hospital.
Yep - sister had her appendix removed there. Father was a fire fighter at the Spang station though.
I went to middle school there from 1984 to 1986...#AYA, #burgerking
