Ok, but the Menuhin/Février recording stays second to none. Don't you think ?

People listen to the unbalanced audio issues to much! This is the far best version of this sonata I've ever
    heard!

I agree. The music that I have for this piece clearly says "Sonate pour violon et piano". It's not merely a violin sonata with piano accompaniment; the parts are of equal importance. I don't think that just applies to Poulenc's music. Anything that is "Violin and piano" should be treated differently to "Violin with piano accompaniment". That's why I love Pascal Roge and Chantal Juillet's recording of this piece, because the balance is just perfect, even if the ensemble isn't quite tight enough.

Fantastic playing. I much prefer the close mic. In a small room there are nuances that can easily get lost in the hall and far away microphone placement

He is one of the great violinist of 20th century. His grand father was a student of Dvorak and married one of Dvorak's daughters.

The problem with this recording is that the mike is placed too close to the fuddle. In live performance, the piano would undoubtedly play middle stick, but would balance better with the violin. Otherwise, it is a wonderful performance. I have always loved Suk and Pananka's playing. They were a wonderful duo. I know that this is one of Poulenc's "neoclassic" works, but it is just as effective if played with a bit of mittel-Europaischer warmth, as is the case here. Thanks for posting.

First off, thanks for posting the work complete and not split into three clips. It's a good recording, but the 1st and 3rd movements start out just a hair too slow. Also, in Poulenc's chamber music the piano should be assertive but here the recording balance seems to favor the violin. My favorite version on YT is by Banaszkiewicz and Sánchez, particularly their suave 2nd movement. All this being said, this Supraphon recording from 1967 was probably the best available version for many years.

One of the worst recordings of the Poulenc for me. The piano is hardly heard, which wouldn't had pleased Poulenc. The violin playing is plane, lacks imagination. Either forte or mezzoforte. Same vibrato and same sound color all the time. No delicacy in pp at all. And tempos are boring and conservative. Rest is ok.
