Hey everyone! Just so you know, I have created a "History of" video about Linda Danvers, one of the Supergirls mentioned in this video: ua-cam.com/video/a1IGWyoW0tk/v-deo.html
Thanks for this post. Good job. I am older so I am Silver Age Linda Lee from the orphanage and eventually Linda Danvers when she is adopted. Thank you again
Faust! We agree! Linda Danvers was my favorite Supergirl also. Its weird to find someone else who agrees. I think part of the reason I thought she was cool is because she was the Supergirl who came out in the comics when I was in my 20s. I started with the Matrix Supergirl and kept following all the way through the merge with Linda. Once that happened, that was my favorite version of the character. Whenever I think about Supergirl, I think of Linda Danvers. I wish I could say there was no association between my age and the character, but either way, Linda Danvers was always my favorite. I never followed any of the Reign In Hell stuff though. I was unaware of it until after looking up Linda again out of nostalgia, on Wikipedia, after seeing your video. Thanks and keep 'em coming!
Powergirl is basically the most iconic character , but matrix I spent so much time trying to understand as a kid I understand why that was retconned when Doomsday punches matrix supergirl and she becomes this alien pink goo I was super confused ,and I'm sure so was every single reader who was just an average reader at that time.
Linda Danvers is my favorite Supergirl. I always thought her back story and her character was more interesting than Kara. The problem with Kara Zor-El is she is essentially the female version of Superman.
I honestly had no idea there was more than one Supergirl. I got interested in the Linda Danvers series when I was reading Young Justice because of a crossover between the two. I REALLY liked the art in those issues, and the look of Supergirl, I'm not against sexy comic characters, but I love to see a female hero who doesn't play up the sexual angle, and wears something that covers her entire torso. I plan to read that series in the near future.
Yes! Loved the Peter David version of Supergirl. Agree with you on all fronts. Gary Frank and Leonard Kirk did awesome work on that book too. Man, if only they had been brave enough to do that version in the TV show. Maybe one day we'll see Fallen Angel (I loved Fallen Angel sooooo much) on the screen.
I'm currently reading "The daring new adventures of Supergirl", which is the pre-crisis Supergirl series that was around from 1982 to 1984. Comixology started adding the series. It's really good. It's very a bronze age comic. Light in tone, but not as silly as the Silver age.
linda danvers was always my favorite super girl i thought she had the spirit and energy that made her one of the best super girls around and plus, when that first issue came out i was kind of hesitating on getting it but then i read it and was like okay i love where this is going.that is why i was so pissed off when the series got canceled and the new 52 super girl i really did not care for at all.
I wish you could talk more about the supergirl from 2004. She's my favorite and really the only one I got to know. I love how she's kind of a rebellious teenager and learns to except that she is supergirl. She was my first comic.
If Linda were to be in the series, a lot of people would have said something like "That's not Supergirl! She is some kind of phoenixgirl! Shame on you, DC"... Just saying.
Have you read the Supergirl story starting with Superman/Batman: Supergirl and her solo title leading up to Flashpoint? I wouldn't imagine she's much different from her Post-Flashpoint/New 52 counterpart. But I think she's pretty badass.
Is the May (Mae?) shapeshifting supergirl the one in the Superman: Doomsday & Beyond novel? I have that book (I don't remember where/when I got it) and I've never heard of any other Supergirl with the shapeshifting ability until this video. The novel shows that she kind of works for Lex, or at least works with him.
I have 3 issues of Secret's origins one of them with Supergirl and the truth is that I never cared for Kara before that, not even when she died on Crisis of Infinites Earth (the only other comic that I have where she appears). I met Power Girl in the comics before Supergirl and I really loved her identity crisis (not the story-ark). So with my low comic experience, my favorites Supergirl are Kara from Earth 1 and 2.
My favorite Supergirl, and I do know all about Linda, Matrix, Lois Lane's sub-conscious dream of a blood transfusion, the daughter of Lois Lane and Superman, etc., and I agree that Linda Danvers' story is very dramatic and there is so much suspense and feelings one gets from reading it. Still, by far, my favorite is Kara Zor-El/Danvers from the new 52. That is to say, though, that the rest of the characters are equal to or even better than Kara, namely her sister, Alex, and her friend, Lena Luthor. Alex could beat her up easily and Lena is smart enough to likely kill her from her own corporate headquarters, though Alex wouldn't allow that to happen, somehow. The people that surround Supergirl AND Supergirl are what make the New 52 Supergirl, the best Supergirl.
It's been a while since I seen your videos and wow! Love the new hairstyle Faust♥ (I also see the Makoto and Haru figmas in the back. MakoHaru shipper? And I see Noiz in that thumbnail haha)
i normally dont watch movies and tv shows based off of books or comic books that i already like because i get bored, angry, or disappointed and i just dont watch much tv but it would be cool if u made a video of in your opinion which ones are the best adaptations of comics
My favourite Supergirl was post-crisis Kara who first appeared in Superman and Batman, at first it felt like she was just trying to come into her own and she was acting like a teenager with Kryptonian powers who has the moniker of Supergirl and it felt as though she wasn't trying to turn herself into a female version of Superman and I found that refreshing, somewhere along the line of the run that feeling seemed to disappear though. I can't like New 52 Kara at all.
Not really relavent to this video but, have you had a chance to watch Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles (or at least the previews). What is your opinion?
SimonCleric and Osiris Rex my only favorite version of Supergirl would have to be Supergirl from the Injustice 2 comic series besides that every other DC comic series I only enjoy reading Power Girl comics.
from my knowledge 5 there's the Kon-el superboy most know from young justice, there's the superboy form pre-crisis who is just young superman and there's the infamous superboy prime and there's Jon Lane kent the evil superboy who's the son of lois lane and clark kent and there's Jon kent the son of Superman and lois lane in the current post-crisis post convergence story line. There's probably more which is why I want to see a video about it.
***** In the comics its out right stated that its the way I say it in this video. I'm saying it the way the creator of the character intended, not the way the show got it wrong ^^;;
Who is the woman in the picture on the wall next to the picture of Robin? She is pictured with an elephant on her right side and on her left side, with an animal that looks like a wolf, coyote, or rabid dog.
Linda Danvers does seem cool but I don't know how she would work without Matrix(?) who seems to have a confusing background that wouldn't translate well in most modern comics/television
Well technically from what I know they are doing Linda Danvers. In the sense that that will be her alter ego lol. I agree the most interesting Supergirl was totally Linda Danvers I loved her story arch and hated the way they ended her. I don't think the show would go for a real Linda Danvers plot for the very reason you said: if your a Supergirl and your name isn't Kara your gonna get erased of just completely forgotten. Kara is who people know she is technically the only REAL Supergirl in the general publics eyes. I mean as good as Matrix and Linda were they were really only both around for like 6 years if even. I personally loved the look of Matrix but being a child of the 90s she was the first Supergirl I knew so that will always make her special. Also I love that was she also like Lion King Lex(I think its pretty self-evident lol)personal sex slave/girlfriend. Of course the never showed anything more than kissing but the were some pretty blue jokes thrown around by those two
ItsSuperEffective I know just making a joke. Btw I just wanted to say I really love your show you seem like a really cool guy. I know its an issue of funding(which I wish I could help with)but I would love to see you finish becoming Robin. P.S.(sorry I have to)I think it would be awesome if you did something about Tim Hunter or The Books of Magic I know you mentioned you were a fan in a previous video and I think more people should be exposed this what I think was one of the best series ever right up to in abrupt end. Thanks
I'm a little sad that they're not going with the angry super self-conscious but independent Kara from new 52, since they want to go with her. That said I agree Linda would have been better. It fits what I think they're going for a lot better.
GLEIPNIR Power Girl is a scientist that helps humanity whenever she's not being a superhero, and if you want to know more about Power Girl's character read Power Trip or the Power Girl X Harley Quinn crossover comic.
I don't do Origins. Never have done. It also takes several weeks to several months to make a single video, and I have no plans for Domino at this time.
Since in a sense Jimmy Olsen created supergirl maybe either powergirl or supergirl should date Jimmy Olsen and if they get married Jimmy Olsen and Superman become cousins by marriage.
I liked red ring super girl the most. I hated the new super girl tv show. It plays up damsel in distress way way to much. Its like "oh I know I cant do this I am girl...wait I have super powers." pow! Its like ally mcbeal meets Adam west. 90% chance you are going to hate it ItsSuperEffective I know you going to watch it when it comes out but I hope you do a reaction video.
I absolutely hate it. I don't think any comic fans will love this show unless, somewhere down the line, Melissa Benoist's character is revealed to be either some kind of imposter or a combination of Linda Danvers and the spirit of Supergirl or something. But this TV series is faithful to none of the source material, as this video has demonstrated. It reduces Supergirl to a Rom Com cliche', and takes away everything that has made her such a great character since her Post Crisis reintroduction. It looks more like Greg Berlanti adapted the 1984 movie into a TV series, as opposed to having anything to do with the actual Supergirl.
I read a article that the network showed greg the door. He wanted to make changes along flash arrow line. but the network wanted it to be more girly. He is still producer but has no power. If I come across the article again I will link it. Sad part of all of this is they wanted something girly but I am pretty sure this thing is offensive to women. I only have talk to 2 women but they thought it was pretty bad.
James Pazzaglia You've now talked to your third female that is not happy with the show. I'm a huge DC fan, and Supergirl's in like my top 5 favorite DC superheroes. But, depending on its timeslot, I'm going to be watching Blindspot that night, and hoping either A, this crap origin and pilot is retconned and the proper origin used, or B. The show goes quickly and THE Supergirl doesn't have to suffer much more humiliation with this series tarnishing her.
From what I e hear the pilot is one of the cheesiest things ever made but it has potential and EVERY 'flaw' can be corrected fairly easily. Me personally I hope it's in the same world as flash and arrow.
Yeah, a companion for "Superman". We all know what Jimmy was thinking. As for Power Girl, I think we all know her for a different reason ;) Thumbs up if you think a Supergirl game should be made or if you like this comment :)
I have to agree in hindsight that Linda Danvers would've been a better choice...in the right hands...but after seeing the actual "Supergirl" show and how it was handled...and giving it 4 seasons worth of chances..I'm officially over it. It seems that all that was done was to make it a vehicle of SJW propaganda and I'm glad that my favorite iteration of Supergirl wasn't sullied by this poor excuse of a show. I can't hope for its cancellation soon enough at this point. Thanks for your video history.

Did the concept of a normal teenage girl being bestowed with these powers what interested u?
Linda Danvers is also my favorite Supergirl just the story of a normal girl gets bestowed type of powers

Matty Perron Read Judge Dread
Matty Perron Linda Danvers lied to superman about being his cousin to take on being supergirl in the comics
If you check DC Wikia and Marvel Wikia. Look up your favorite character. And the bottom will show you all the different versions of them.
I came here because of that crossover
My favorite is Kara, her New 52 run is really cool and I love how she became a red lantern. That just added to the fun since I'm a huge Lantern fan.
WOW!! Thank you so so so much. Finally someone who really was able to explain every single one of Supergirls Interpretations.
Loving the Makoto in Iwatobi gear on your shelf 😄
I'm currently reading "The daring new adventures of Supergirl", which is the pre-crisis Supergirl series that was around from 1982 to 1984. Comixology started adding the series. It's really good. It's very a bronze age comic. Light in tone, but not as silly as the Silver age.
Kara as Supergirl is my favorite character.
I love you Faust... Just needed to get that off my chest, I love your videos keep up the good work. XD
I have a Power Girl figure................................enough said

linda danvers was always my favorite super girl i thought she had the spirit and energy that made her one of the best super girls around and plus, when that first issue came out i was kind of hesitating on getting it but then i read it and was like okay i love where this is going.that is why i was so pissed off when the series got canceled and the new 52 super girl i really did not care for at all.

Linda Danvers is my favourite Supergirl. Peter David gave us a truly original take on the character.
My favorite Supergirl is new 52 Supergirl! I was never a fan of hers until then
Have you read the Supergirl story starting with Superman/Batman: Supergirl and her solo title leading up to Flashpoint? I wouldn't imagine she's much different from her Post-Flashpoint/New 52 counterpart. But I think she's pretty badass.
I freakin love what u do on your channel

Plus I think you deserve 100s of subscribers everyday✌😀
Would love to see you do a video on Magik or X-23
Great video!

jeremy lemings I was only talking about the Mainstream DC Universe in this video.

Just wondering, did Earth D Kara count?

I still love Power Girl. But the New52 Supergirl is great too.
What do you think of the Rebirth Supergirl?
SimonCleric and Osiris Rex my only favorite version of Supergirl would have to be Supergirl from the Injustice 2 comic series besides that every other DC comic series I only enjoy reading Power Girl comics.
Can you do a history of all the superboys?
how many Superboy's are there
from my knowledge 5 there's the Kon-el superboy most know from young justice, there's the superboy form pre-crisis who is just young superman and there's the infamous superboy prime and there's Jon Lane kent the evil superboy who's the son of lois lane and clark kent and there's Jon kent the son of Superman and lois lane in the current post-crisis post convergence story line. There's probably more which is why I want to see a video about it.
You should do the history of beast boy and raven
Did you do power girl
FBicoolshaman Yeah, he discussed her.
I'm calling the pronunciation police for the way you said Constantine
***** In the comics its out right stated that its the way I say it in this video. I'm saying it the way the creator of the character intended, not the way the show got it wrong ^^;;
Lynda has to be my favourite as well.
Who is the woman in the picture on the wall next to the picture of Robin? She is pictured with an elephant on her right side and on her left side, with an animal that looks like a wolf, coyote, or rabid dog.
That's Harley Quinn with her hyenas
Linda Danvers does seem cool but I don't know how she would work without Matrix(?) who seems to have a confusing background that wouldn't translate well in most modern comics/television
I always assumed Linda was in full control of the Matrix persona until she was seperated
I only knew of Kara and Power Girl.

I'm a little sad that they're not going with the angry super self-conscious but independent Kara from new 52, since they want to go with her. That said I agree Linda would have been better. It fits what I think they're going for a lot better.
I disagree how would her origin go besides if Linda was in the Supergirl TV show people would be like that's no Supergirl she's a Phoenix girl
Well...im going to get impalled but...all i know about Powergirl is that she has BIG Bazoongas :3
GLEIPNIR Power Girl is a scientist that helps humanity whenever she's not being a superhero, and if you want to know more about Power Girl's character read Power Trip or the Power Girl X Harley Quinn crossover comic.
Damn, this is confusing..... So who’s the Supergirl in Injustice??? I assume it’s Power Girl but now I have no idea.
So lyinda was Jean grey.
He forgot to mention the Supergirl in the white top and blue skirt.
Dynamo7 That was Linda in her second costume.
I don't do Origins. Never have done.
It also takes several weeks to several months to make a single video, and I have no plans for Domino at this time.

that's linda
Since in a sense Jimmy Olsen created supergirl maybe either powergirl or supergirl should date Jimmy Olsen and if they get married Jimmy Olsen and Superman become cousins by marriage.

First
Personally I think the Supergirl show looks awful.
what are you talking about it sounds good to me
