I hate so see you blame the horse. Horses never act up because they are" being sassy" or whatever. It is always either the riders fault or the horse having medical issues. I hate to see Gabby tighten the reins while trying to get him to canter. She has harsh hands which result the head throwing. Finn is really sensitive, I'm pretty sure he would work perfectly if she started using her seat to slow him down. Both of the girls need to learn how to ride with their seat and leg. The reason why Finn is so unbalanced is because neither of the girls know how to ride him balance without relying in the rein. I think it would be helpful if Brandon started riding him again for like once a week. It's good for the horse to get a professional from time to time to ride them.
@@nikolaauzaane4229 If Brandon rode Finn it would make him more responsive and balanced resulting in Sophie hopefully becoming less nervous and feeling like she can sit back and trust the horse. Because right now she is very nervous and in a mindstate like that she can't really sit back and improve on using the seat
There is nothing wrong with Finn. All you need is a rider who does not rely on thief reins for balance and who doesn’t grab at his mouth. People have been telling you over and over on other videos to do a no rein lunge line lesson for Sophie so she can learn to use her core and not the reins, you’ve even liked several of those comments and are still not doing it? Also can you please please please use leg protection??
If I'm correct they don't use leg protection on the horse because it's not allowed in the show rings in Canada. Correct me if I'm wrong but i think that's what they said
Agree, really both of their horses should have leg protection. I believe they’ve said in the past that they don’t use boots or polos because they’re not allowed in the show ring, but I think the safety and well-being of their horses should come first always. Completely agree, well said!
We saw Brandaan and Elizabeth ride him before you change the noseband and he was great. Yes taking off the noseband may be his preference but you still need to attack the issue at its roots or it won’t ever go away, Sophie needs to really work to figure all this out and improve her riding so she knows how to slow him down without pulling on his face which he’s argued with every time she grips his mouth. She needs to strengthen her core which can be done outside of riding. I’ve started finding my own daily exercise regiment for the past couple weeks and I’ve already seen improvement due to it. Right now I’m just working on extremely basic stuff with exercise, sits ups, squats, push ups, and lunges to try and work the areas that I use more often when riding and as I start to gain the stamina for it I can increase how much of each exercise I do and add more on. Just remember if you start an exercise regiment there’s no reason to jump right into it, ease your way into it and it’ll end up being more enjoyable from the start and easier to stick with, it’s better to take a bit longer to start doing harder exercises but sticking with them for a long time rather than jumping right in and then dropping out because there was too much intensity from the start.
When you took away his noseband, you also changed his bit to one without leverage. He didn't like the leverage of the pelham, and that discomfort was exasturbated with Sophie's harsh hands, and whenever she took contact. Finn is sensitive, and now, he has learned to travel very hollow and with his head high and nose out, resisting contact and the bit.
this exactly. they will blame anything but the bit. the pelham was WAY too much for this sensitive boy and they’re blaming it on him and the noseband which i doubt was the problem
@@horsegirl07 I just wish they would give Brandon more of a chance, he has done wonders for Gabby and I think Sophie could really learn from him. @@emilyeide5414 very true! I have 2 trainers but, they are so alike and bounce ideas off each other so it’s like 2 in one. I like Brandon’s way of teaching, and I agree it would probably be very beneficial for Sophie to just focus with him.
Finn always shakes his head when anyone starts pulling on his mouth. Having no noseband means he can open his mouth to escape the pressure from the bit. The noseband hasn't made the biggest difference, you changing the bit and stopping yanking on his mouth, that's what's made the difference!
Finn isn’t the issue if you are blaming something on the horse it just shows it’s your fault. He needs a rider that doesn’t hold onto his face relying on reins
The noseband was not the problem, he literally shook his head in this video when he went into canter and he’s not wearing the noseband🤦🏼♀️He seems to shake his head when the girls pull back on his reins, he may just be sensitive in the mouth, some horses are… you have to actually listen to your horse and watch their signs😂🙄
Stop blaming this poor pony, Sophie rises way too fast, meaning he will obviously speed up, then she pulls on his face, with an uncomfortable bit that is way too much and too big for him. Causing him to shake his head because hes UNCOMFORTABLE. Gabby, Elizabeth and Brandon ride him so well because its easier for them to control their speed in rising trot. So it all leads to Sophies weight, this is NOT FAT SHAMING simply just trying to help you guys. Sophie needs to be able to control her rising speed and not flop around in the saddle like a sack of potatoes. Perhaps getting fitter, strengthening her legs etc... I'm watching a part of this video now, YOU ARE PULLING ON HIS FACE, WHICH MAKES HIM UNCOMFORTABLE. It's NOT the noseband. Its the rider, pulling on his face = pressure on the noseband, which means without the noseband, theres less pressure on his nose. BUT THAT STILL DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT YOU'RE PULLING ON HIS MOUTH TO SLOW HIM DOWN! Close your knees, slow your rising, and HALF HALT, don't continuously pull on this poor ponies mouth STOP BLAMING YOUR HORSES FOR EVERYTHING THE RIDERS ARE DOING WRONG! This is not hating, simply trying to educate you on whats happening with Finn, even a viewer can see the obvious problems with the riding, only by seeing a video. Edit: You had the noseband too tight and way too far up his nose, which hurts the horse, without the noseband there isn't that pressure and soreness. You also blame everything but the bit, HALF OF THE ISSUES YOU GAVE HIM WERE BECAUSE OF THE BITS YOU USE. STICK WITH A SIMPLE LOOSE RING SNAFFLE, RIDE CORRECTLY AND SEE HOW IT GOES.
Agree with everything except for the weight part. I’m a bit of a bigger rider myself, and I have very light hands. Sophie grabbing his mouth has nothing to do with her weight. Sure, it may mean she needs to work harder to be balanced, but other than that, her weight shouldn’t effect her riding. Completely agree with everything else though, Finn needs a rider who will LET HIM GO, rather than holding him constantly. And the bit is horrible, I think there’s a time when Pelhams are appropriate, but this is not it. Wish they’d listen
Finn has always been a good boy who needs a confident rider. If Sophie isn't strong enough to hold herself up, keep having her work on it with a schoolmaster. He isn't and never was the problem.
A good rider relys on their legs and aids more than pulling on their mouths. Finn is a sensitive horse and probably doesn’t like heavy hands on his reins. Sofie needs to learn to use her body and legs more than using he hands.
There is no such thing as problem horses, only problem riders I think gabby should be riding Finn for a while because I don’t think sophie is ready for a horse like Finn and also what happened to Brandon training finn up for sophie, did he realise sophie was the one making the problem?
It's nice to see him without all the gadgets on his head. He is still not relaxed in trot yet as there is no blowing out or stretching down. I wish your girls were taught one rein stops, lateral flexion and how to disengage the hindquarters. It would help with all his brace and rushing. Also when he does make that change of slowing down, it's important to let him stand there and digest that change, it's the release that teaches. If you keep trotting straight away again he won't understand he has done the right thing. I am going to agree and disagree to lunging. If you're doing it to tire him out, mindless circles will make him fitter and fitter physically, but mentally he will just learn to switch off. Learn how to do more ground work using longer lines than a lunge line, 22ft or even 45 ft and this is where you can have fun using obstacles, and jump him over them and do travelling circles, but from a distance not at the end of a short lead! It will let you see how he is feeling before you ride, your imagination becomes the only limitation here! Sophie would have a great time doing this and it will help with her confidence and his, not having rider on him. It also helps prepare them for trail riding.🐎
Horse trainers have told me in order to slow a horse down you have to let them go (in a controlled area) and then when they want to stop, you keep them going. After a few times of this, they learn that it’s not a good thing to go full speed. If Gabby doesn’t want to do this a few times, get someone who can. Will make a difference.
Do you ever try just letting go of the reins. Not fully letting go but ride him on the buckle and see if he will stretch his neck down and relax. Trusting him.
Finn’s trot is so nice once he is able to extend his stride and stretch out! It just shows he needs a rider who stays out of his mouth and a softer bit. Sophie should work on riding Finn with looser contact and try just using her seat to stop him.
If Fin is sensitive about nose bands and bridles, he might like a anatomical bridle like the PS of Sweden ones :) I’m going to try one for my sensitive pony as well.
He will get it❤He is going to need this repetition ALOT so he begins to relax and learns that he won't be pulled back on( you can see little bits of relaxation coming through) fiona is right( never thought of it this way before) he needs to see he can stretch out before he can slow. Eventually you will have both. He has all of the buttons, they work the last part is the trust betweenhim and his rider( that goes for anyone who gets on him). The 12 steps of trot you can see a difference in the trot and the transition, keep building on it😊 The goal at the end of this is to be able to have him trot long and low without any contact, once he is good with that you can work on it with the canter. This winter will be great for working on these things, by show season he will be a whole new Finn 😊 Biggest thing, one step at a time❤
Finn really isn't the problem but neither is Sophie, Sophie just hasn't been taught what to do with him. When Gabby's riding him you can see his head is up but he's moving forward, you have to compromise with him. Like your head can be up but you have to be moving forward at a pace I want. It's very simple, Once he starts really understanding moving forward and not shaking his head, then you can introduce more things like contact, but if he doesn't like it and things start to go to crap then go back to basics. At the moment Finn just needs to learn one thing at a time, too many things will cause him to act out, take it slow . Also thank you Gabby for giving him pats when he does something right, you can just see the softness in the rein, I noticed in multiple bits Finn got a bit fast, she slowed him down, gave him the rein back and gave him a pat, even when the trainer told her not to hold onto his mouth she just slowed him down and gave him the rein back. You can see his head drop multiple times and she gives him rein right away. This is the kind of training he needs, I think Gabby should ride him for a bit and Sophie can ride one of the other horses and get her confidence up, then when she gets back on Finn, Gabby should teach her what she's been doing and hopefully it will make a difference. Also that head flicking when she asks him to canter will get better as he understands that he has to slow down before a canter, you can also see his trot getting better no head flicking there but it will stop in a canter once he starts to learn. After she tries to canter him the first time you can see him get a bit fired up, so instead of doing it again, ask him to do a nice trot and calm down then ask again until he does it with no head flicking and no speeding up.
So Gabby had I nice loose rein when posting and now she tighten the rein and Finn is pulling his head that what I see. I love that Fiona is talking Gabby through the steps.
As you're saying it's nothing to do with the pulling on the bit, gabby starts holding him and he throws his head every time, yes he probably much prefers without the noseband, but you can clearly see when gabby takes up too much contact for too long he reacts to it
I think that someone just needs to ride him that will let him go but also not let hi run off. I think that the pressure in his mouth is affecting the way the riders put on his mouth. If you don’t put hardly any pressure on his mouth he will be a lot better. We have a mare that can’t have a bit because when she was leased a bunch of college kids pulled on her a lot and now she hates bits, so we have to ride her bit less bridle. Maybe you need to try riding him in a bit less bridle.

OMG GABBY!! this was a stunning ride, the rhythm you had, the loopy reins, the big relaxed trot it was everything Finn needs, the problem is Laura that Finn needs this kind of ride all the time for him to improve, Fiona said it herself, Finn has fear and worry in his eyes being ridden because of how he has been ridden, That isn't good, a horse should never be in the position where they fear being ridden at a certain pace, it should have been stopped before it got to that stage. this was a lovely ride by gabby but what will happen now is Sophie will get back on and undo all that good work that gabby just did, your going round in circles, I know you don't want to hurt Sophie but do you want to Hurt Finn? Do you want him to be able to relax and be happy in his work? Its very sad to see that your putting Finn in harms way, Give Finn to Gabby for a while, bring Storm home and have Sophie ride him until she can ride good enough that she's not causing Finn a problem. Finn isn't the problem here, he's never been the problem, the problem I'm sorry is you.

Great lesson from Fiona! It takes a lot of practice to ride really effectively from your seat, rather than using the reins to control the speed. It takes a lot of core control and conscious riding every single step! It feels impossible when you first start but it will become second nature. You did really well in that lesson Gabby! I see a lot of negative comments about Sophie's riding here, and I feel compelled to remind people that she is a child and she is learning to ride. There really isn’t any rules for showing jumping. You can wear and do whatever really. They just want to see how the fasted and no faults at jumping
Sophie wants to do speed events like barrel racing
Yeah in jumpers anything goes. I have a friend who rides in a western bridle!
It’s amazing how Finn isn’t shaking his head he is probably so grateful you figured it out !
These comments are not hate we are just trying to help the problem Laura.
You guys are still awesome.
OMG GABBY!! this was a stunning ride, the rhythm you had, the loopy reins, the big relaxed trot it was everything Finn needs, the problem is Laura that Finn needs this kind of ride all the time for him to improve, Fiona said it herself, Finn has fear and worry in his eyes being ridden because of how he has been ridden, That isn't good, a horse should never be in the position where they fear being ridden at a certain pace, it should have been stopped before it got to that stage. this was a lovely ride by gabby but what will happen now is Sophie will get back on and undo all that good work that gabby just did, your going round in circles, I know you don't want to hurt Sophie but do you want to Hurt Finn? Do you want him to be able to relax and be happy in his work? Its very sad to see that your putting Finn in harms way, Give Finn to Gabby for a while, bring Storm home and have Sophie ride him until she can ride good enough that she's not causing Finn a problem. Finn isn't the problem here, he's never been the problem, the problem I'm sorry is you.
maybe you should lunge him before every ride so he can get a few bucks out!
They don't like to lunge.....
@@SassySorrelFilly well they should…
@@charleytrainor2908 don't need to tell me twice. Lol. I'm all for it. They don't like lunging because they've been taught that a horse shouldn't be "allowed" to act a fool on a lungeline (I'd rather it be a fool on a lunge than a fool with me on it's back), and they rarely do it.
@@SassySorrelFilly haha yeah! In my opinion bucking or acting up on the lunge isn’t being a fool it’s just getting energy out. 🐴
Finn looks so happy with Gabby ! And no nose band ! Wow
I want to add a positive comment. I think your al great and all working well together x
Finn is looking so good, I’m so happy for you that his head shaking is gone!❤️
Hey!!
Early!!! First comment
you are!
Finn is such a good mover once he settles down he could be a star in hunter shows or be very athletic in western classes. He looks happy in snaffle bit. Gabby and Sophie are becoming excellent riders. My trainer tells me to slow my posting but it's not easy. Best wishes 🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴
First comment!
If Sofie dose two point at a walk on Chino well Gaby schools Finn that will help her build strength in her leg and core to help her with Finn and Chino will just walk along Calm cool and slow for Sofie well she dose two point it would help Sofie build up herself and allow Finn to be ridden by Gaby a little and Gaby can work on her and Finn together to get him more ready for Sofie
all these internet trainers out here .... Laura you guys are doing great with ALL of your horses !
Paige Gwen they have 2 qualified trainers to tell them what is best for their horses . So let them do the talking ...
Paige Gwen it’s not about what others think... they have 2 trainers to help them along with their experience and with their horses, it’s no one business or place to tell them what’s their horse needs
Nobody was perfect to begin with, and learning to ride on a sensitive, forward going horse brings its own challenges. Finn is teaching Sophie lots of great skills. Laura, you guys are doing a great job and please don't feel too disheartened by the negativity. I hope you can continue to ride Finn in this set up, he looks really happy and content without the noseband + in the snaffle bit
@@chfgirl2481 Laura's been paying for her to have lessons since she was 3 years old. Same for Gabby.
Gabby you ride your horse so good gabby and you are so good with your horse and you are so good with horse gabby Nannette
So glad to see Fiona took this lesson with Gabby and Finn and done most of it in trot, so glad she didn’t rush them. Well ridden by Gabby and well done to Finn too!
Gabby you ride your so so nice gabby
You should be a horse training gabby are so good with horse s and you are so good with horse and I want to thank you gabby I'm doing so good with my horse and I have so much confidence with my horse thank you gabby Nannette
Have you try giving him a tie down? It helps keep the horse from throwing their head up
A tie down, draw reins, a flash or anything like that never solves anything it just hides what’s happening.
A tie down is sadly just a band-aid. It doesn't fix anything.
a tie down won’t help him frame or move correctly. tie downs are simply a tool for barrel racers/western gamers primarily used for balance around sharp turns
The standing martingale was the first to be dropped off by them, thankfully. A horse tossing his head should not be just forced to keep it down because the rider won't ride them softly
Y’all I was just trying to help cause I use a tie down and it helped me. I know he needs rider with softer hands
