If I am being honest, I used to say it when I was in middle school? Yee middle school. Back then, especially where I lived, everyone said it(and mind it, it hadn't been long since I came back to America after living in México for at least 5 years, and I was still learning how to speak English(I still suck at it but god I was so bad I needed to be in a ELA and ESL class)), whether you were latino, black, white, and whatever else you can come up with, pretty much anyone would say it here and there. Of course not like a lot, well at least not in my friend group and those who I tried hanging out with, but you would here it here and there. I began saying it cause I thought it just meant like, 'bro' or something along those lines. As I got close to graduating or into highschool I realized that the word had something about it. Like, it never had been a good thing, was not created to be a good thing and even if you were to use it as a friendly way, people would jump at you for saying it. There was no way to clean up such word, with such heavy impact. So I use better words like friendoes or buddy XD Never can go wrong there... I hope so ;-; But yeah pretty much stopped saying the word but not gonna lie to you? It is kinda hard to not repeat a word basically most people are you use, at least your friend groups. Like I have close friends and a lot of them are black and they tend to say the word here and there with many variations, and God it was so hard not to repeat it. It's hard to but it is worth it, for many reasons. I personally don't see the reason to say the word overall, because that word is tainted, in a way that basically can not be repaired. Like I said, the word was not created with good intentions and you can't 'take back' a word that never belonged to you. It was created by a racist community to, ya know, segregate and defame as well discriminate people of color. Of course you can lighten up the word but even if you try that, there will always be conflict in both the usage and user who uses it. It's just a whole complicated topic. But yeah, best advice is try to not even say the word, as much as you can, at least if you don't fit the 'requirements' or whatever some people might say. It ain't worth it.

As you can guess I grew up with quite the mix; White, black, Asians, Hispanics, and so on. And even then I have certain white friends(who are one of my friendgroups who are majorly black) who say the N word as it was a normal thing. They live in Bronx I think, and they are from Croatia. Some might even say he is a street but I dunno, all I know is that he is me friend XD But yeah, I seen a good mix of all. Guess it makes sense since I live in the most diverse place in the world, allegedly. There's only an issue with stuff if you make a personal issue OR are being malicious but from what I seen that's pretty rare.
