  • The Professor reviews the 100ah 12v LiFePO4 drop in lead acid replacement battery from Dr. Prepare. Perfect for van life, campers, RV's, and home DIY solar systems.
    DR. PREPARE: shrsl.com/3bu2g (sale price ended 12/23/21)
    LOW TEMP CUTOFF: Dr. Prepare stated this battery had low temp cutoff when I did my review but has since rescinded this statement and pulled this information from their page. Due to time restraints, I was unable to test this feature in my review so I just took their word for it. Sorry for any confusion!

    Nice video. I really like how you continue to teach us. For example, telling us that rated charge cycles is essentially going from full to dead. And then, you give us actual numbers on how many additional cycles are possible if we go from 20 to 80 instead of 0 to 100. This is extremely useful. Almost all reviewers are not knowledgeable enough to dare tell us this because they just don’t know. Thank you for knowing AND sharing. I wish you had time to review every power station, battery, and solar panel 😂

    Thank you for this episode of Dirt cheap Dr. Prepare 100AH LifePo4 Drop in Lithium LFP Battery Review. I am running a Battleborn heated 100ah battery. I put it in a battery box from Walmart and filled the voids inside the box with insulation, mostly random foam packing material that I have collected from my build out.
    I enjoy your channel, your lab tests are great with the sounds and music and all. Keep it up.

    Thanks as always for the informative review. After seeing that the BMS allowed the battery to charge beyond 50 amps I would have been curious to test the BMS further…like putting the battery in a freezer and then seeing if the BMS would allow the battery to charge when it’s cold (below the threshold).

    I am not a pepper or a prepper, but I have a clown van... Sleeps 2 adults and a dog... We use it to camp in Colorado... In the winter we have most of the state to ourselves... Outside the city lights, nighttime star gazing is fantastic, always a show going on up there... We are planning to add a battery pack because so many of the places we like to camp have no amenities... The best ones we have found involve driving into the middle of the forest and picking a spot... We are going over the options, leaning towards the Ecoflo Delta Pro at the moment... I could probably make a unit using 3 of the 100AH batteries as well... Problem with running wires that could jump start the lads down at the friedhof??? I am fearful of unsolicited electrical discharges... There, I said it... Thanks for the great video...

    Took the advice and purchased one. Seems ok but see serious voltage drop on high load. Based on 100 amp discharge should be able to support a 1200 watt load. At 1200 watt voltage drops to 10 volts and inverter shuts down. May be pulling more the 1200 watts but still see serious voltage drop that I don’t see in my Lion 1300.

    88amps? You've just voided the warranty! I'm not sure how you can say it's all the same as Battle Born batteries when you didn't look inside at the build quality, such as wire size, terminations, BMS quality, and actually testing the cold charge safety sensor for functionality. The total full charge output wasn't confirmed for 100Ah either. I think I'd go with SOK which has a great build quality.

    You could use a grey water heater under the lithium batterieswith a temp switch to protect against freezing that would protect battery from doom .

    The problem is this battery does not have a low temp sensor. It does have a high temp sensor but it is placed in the wrong place and useless (on the Battery where a low temp sensor should be). So basically no protection from low temps which is what is really needed more than high temps. And no series setup how stupid is that it uses the same BMS as other LifePO4s so that can't be it. Would not buy sorry.

    I bought Zooms 100ah LiFePO4 on sale for 319 after 40 dollars off.
    Will Prowse tested at over 1200w capacity and 100amp capable charging.
    I wished I would have seen this video first.
    I could have saved 39% 😪🤧
    Oh, 365.00 is after the discount. 599.00 regular price.
    Never mind, I'm happy with Zooms for 319.00

    I can't believe you didn't cut it up and hook it to Frankenstein so we could see the full potential of the battery. Will it bring some one back to life? No really I want to replace the AGM in my cargo trailer but I want 200 amp hour let me know what you think is best. Please.

    "Dr" HoboTech - thanks for another informative battery video.. how does one charge a lithium iron phosphate battery to only 80% state of charge..?

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  2 роки тому +1

      The best way is to use a $20 battery monitor (hobotech.tv/amazon/#Tools). Alternatively, the ultra cheap go by voltage but that's not very accurate with lithium.

    Just a thought maybe it's time to look into dropping AC power and going totally DC. DC is far more efficient in any use I can think of and by creating DC instead of AC and dropping the idea of connecting every building in a city to that grid we would bypass the need for those monster fields of "generators".

    • @KKuurus
      @KKuurus 2 роки тому

      @@earl2688 Yes but using local generation like Solar and single home wind you not need the distance and it's resistance that limits distance.

    I know little about batteries and solar though I have spent a good deal of time trying to learn . I am constantly running into information that I did not know. So, this is a genuine question and not a critique. I just bought a 500 watt Oukitel Lifepo4 solar generator for 399.00. It states it can be run down to 20% without damaging the batteries and will just automatically shut down when it gets that low. It also can be charged for 2000 cycles. It should be here in 2 days. You said this Dr Prepare only supported a 280 watt draw I think it was and it costs over 400 dollars ? Did I get that right ? So what advantage does the Dr Prepare have over the Oukitel I just bought ? If you do happen to read this I have one other question that is a bit off topic. They say not to charge the Oukitel with a panel over 100 watts. I have a 110 and was told that would be fine. However, a guy said that you could charge the Ouikitel with 2, 100 watt panels in parallel with out damaging the battery. Is that correct ?

    Professor,
    I purchased 3 100ah batteries for my 36v trolling motor. I bought a new 4 bank on board charger and made the install over a month ago. The battery are wired up in parallel and charged up fine and everything seemed ok until… I went out to the garage (climate controlled) plugged the charger back in just to see if everything was still topped off and one bank was showing an error code. All the other banks showed full charge and maintaining. I pulled the battery in question out and tested it resting at 13.8 v which is normal I guess. I thought maybe it was the charger so i switched the battery to another bank and it showed the error as well. This tells me it is more than likely the battery. For whatever reason it doesn’t want to except charge. What are your thoughts? I’m having a little trouble getting ahold of dr prepare? Btw I have never discharged the batteries they are new out of box installed and charged I haven’t used the trolling motor yet.
