  • With good sightings of longtails around working bait balls, I took the chance to put a mate Andy Sparnon from CoastFish TV onto his first ever longtail tuna and from the beach would make the experience all that bit better.
So the day before I was going past one of the local headlands when I spotted birds working close in so I put the drone up to get some footage of the diving gannets upon getting above the bait ball I noticed several large longtail tunas working the bait also.
The following day Andy meet me at the same location I seen the action the day before but today there was no sign of any birds working or surface action and the weather was a little overcast so not ideal conditions for spotting tuna from the drone, As we sat on the headland scouting the sea for any signs of surface action we discussed what the plan was if we were to see any fish that day. A hour or so past with no sign of the clouds clearing or any tuna passing, by now I wasn't feeling very optimistic possibly the overcasts conditions or the thought that we were a day late as the action was so prolific the day before so I said to Andy "I think we might hav to call it mate try another day" and just as I was packing the drone away in the truck I just happened to see something in the far distance I said "I that birds and bust up" it was very far away from where we were so I put the drone up and flew down the what id seen 1.6km away I arrived to a solid pod of tuna working a small bit of bait my heart started to race and excitement build as I flew the drone back at full pace and said lets go chase em so we jumped in the truck and made our way south to meet the oncoming pod. Without haste we ran onto the beach put a bait on and flew straight out and just like a perfect plan we manage to cut them off before they had shot along the beach and around the headland I dropped a bait in and the rest is history...... hope you enjoy the clip
