Defensive passive shell for 54 minutes a game isn't the way to win. Teams dance around the perimeter (which Detroit wants) but sustain minutes of zone time and wrap the far side boards with no one ever there to get it out or cover the opposite side of ice / boards in a few steps. Eye test is real bad through 9
Drawing very little power plays aswell because guys aren't skating. Stuck soft zone defending all game. Terrible timing on line changes. These softer young teams feel so comfortable playing the wings. No checking just stick pokes
Is it just me or do I constantly hear excuses from this roster and its coaching staff? Lalonde should have been long long long long long long long long long long gone at least by no later then the latter part of last season, but he's still here and chances are the Wings will not be doing anything substantial this year. Two of the best teams in the NHL performed a clinic on this roster. Also, as far as Maata trade is concerned, there were other players on the roster who could have left much sooner than Maata: let's see now----- regardless of position, Veleno, Petry, Compher, Copp, and several others probably would have been my picks before having Maata leave.. I like the Kaner, Kasper, and the Edvinnson types, but the Wings have a long long way to go for improvement. They relied supposedly on Gustafson, if not Seider, to run the power play, but we already know how that's turning out to be, especially with Seider I'm the blue line. Hate to say it because I've been a fan since I was a kid but I don't think we're going to see the kind of results we want to see this year from a team that got rid of players like the Ghost and Gritty himself. Hope I'm wrong and let's see what happens. They just look like too much of a minor league team. I'll bet that some of the traditional winners on his I'll bet that some of the traditional winners on this team are just crossing your fingers hoping that what team will take a turn for the better, but I think it's fat chance on that.
as much as I like newsie and we haven't exactly given him the best available players but I definitely have questioned a lot of things he does and even though with our roster I feel like a more experienced coach can get way more out of them. And with how many players said it was the such a hard training camp etc they sure look awful
Rasmussen makes it sound like they had a players only meeting and Kane told them all to ignore Derek Lalonde and just play how they did in the 1st period the whole time regardless of what he tells them to do. Hope that is the case.
@@JarradBruessel32 Pat was the star player on the only cap era dynasty, which won 2 Jennings trophies as the league's best scoring defense. He has happily played for a far greater defensive head coach than Lalonde could ever hope to be.
They pushed so hard for defense in the beginning and the amount of shots went way down now they look lost in all parts of the rink there is no flow or confidence in their game
All you Moritz Seider fans: it's certainly a reality in ice hockey that blocking shots as a defenseman is important, but so is being an all around hockey player who can handle the puck, which Seider cannot do. Seider is overrated and overpaid. This contract $8.55 mil a yr contract will get Stevie Y scratching his head in probably less than 2-3 years from now if Seider continues to blow assignments like he did in front of Lyon tonight, costing the Wings another goal. And Mickey Redmond actually called out Seider on that one as well, just like he called one on Johannson. If Seider can't grasp the idea to be an all around defenseman, not just blocking shots but actually handling the puck and learning how to pass on another player's stick and not constantly icing the puck into the Ozone so that the opposing team can continue regaining possession time and time again. Just think Seider is analogous to the junk bonds of the 80s, or was the 90s, when everybody thought it was the best investment ever, to find out that they'd lose their arses soon after. Seider loving fans will wake up some day and wish they kept their opinions to themselves instead of backing a German national who was literally unknown in his draft year until Stevie Y and the Wings picked him in the 1st round. The minor leagues are nothing like the NHL, and unless you Seider fans see a vast improvement in his play, I seriously think the Wings will choke their way not only through this season, but in the next few seasons to come. Seider better have a Nicolas Lidstrom approach to being an NHL hockey player, or many fans will be disappointed in his salary expense.
guys lets collab! i film gameday experiences for detroit sports. would love to work together to bring the best red wings gameday vlog ever! let me know!
Everyone saying fire him are not realizing this team is learning to defend properly finally. You have to learn to walk before you run. Why keep pressing offense like we did against edmonton when we can't defend like we have in other games. We need to learn to go into a shell for later in the year when the league does during playoff pushes.
I tend to agree, to put it into perspective my football team (arsenal) went from being super offensive and conceding silly goals to being really defensive and scoring less but still getting results, lalonde is looking for that but better results obviously think he deserves time, if yzerman wants him gone he would be gone by now
The fact that Kane is leading the meeting is just another thing to confirm the fact they don’t respect this joke of a coach. He cant motivate or command respect….he doesn’t need to be the coach
@ Joel Quenneville is the only right answer. His controversial past is confusing to me because he had no part in the actual sexual assault, he just didn't bring attention to it during the biggest games of the year and his team won because of it. I gotta believe he's learned his lesson and if, god forbid, something like that were to happen again, I think he would respond differently. Reuniting Quenneville with Kane is a blockbuster move and exactly what this red wings team needs to get going. This team is talented but from what l've seen this year they lack motivation... A 3 time Stanley cup winning coach that has deep roots with Patty Kane should make the difference. I think there will be a group of people that will be pissed about this move, the same way people were pissed about Edmonton brining in Stan Bowman. There was an uproar for about a week and then for the most part people have moved on... In my opinion both of these guys deserve a second chance as they aren't the guilty party in the 2010 controversy, I don't want to downplay the horrific crimes that Brad Aldrich committed, but Quenneville and Bowman didn't commit any crimes. On another note, Sergei Fedorov behind the bench would be legendary and I wouldn't mind that move either. I don't hate Lalonde, and I wouldn't mind if they kept him around as an assistant coach or whatever else, but I truly believe this team needs a different person leading them. Someone that will light a fire under their ass and get them going.
@youngdrowsy_ they need to do that themselves. Or an assistant coach can do that. Doesn't have to be the head coach. The maple leafs got one of those guys and yet they look worse this year than they did last year. Federov isn't coming to coach. 1. European coaches don't do well in the nhl because of the ice being different sizes it screws with the way teams can play. 2. Jim develanno is still the president of hockey ops. He would never approve of that.
@youngdrowsy_ joel quenville isn't the right guy. He betrayed players trust. Idk how any player could trust him ever again. He put winning a cup over his players.
Lalonde is acting like shots on goal is some new advanced statistic lol

Yes. Another side effect of the strategy. Teams in a dump and chase defensive shell, not pushing the play, don't draw as many penalties.
