How to create Signal account without using personal phone number 👉 • How to create Signal a...
Good to point out as I'm sure many do not realize this, but anonymity between the peers isn't (IMO) really the use case *for* Signal, e.g. that's not what it's for. (There are many other alternatives for that.) And if everyone enables "always relay" at all times I do hope they donate to the project occasionally.
Just here to say that I love your content, I hope you continue sharing privacy knowledge and more and more people start to understand how valuable all this information is.
Thanks for the push!
Only the new "XX messenger" can provide a true privacy. It runs on independent nodes installed across the world, search for the project.
Thank you for sharing your discovery 🕵🏻♂️
Very interesting catch. Thanks for sharing. It's things like this about signal that made me very interested in a popular fork of it called "Session" that's more focused on anonymity rather than privacy. It uses a generated ID instead of phone numbers and uses onion routing (or something similar to it at least I think) to send messages. However as of now it only supports text.
That is really a great catch for as much as Signal is touted for privacy!
As a signal user this is very helpful thank you
Nice video Sun. Thanks.
damn, never knew this sun! thanks for the info, changed the settings on all my devices.
Thanks for your work!
Pleasure… thanks for caring!
I think you are the only guy i subscribed to, agrees the click bait title. WHOLESOME AF!
Nice you noticed mate. Ty for sharing
Pleasure!
This is the sort of low price technology that might help people in a high population density area such as some part of India in emergencies. The news said that at 3AM new years day near the Kashmir Hindu Vaishno Devi shrine, a stampede is where they say 12 people died and 13 were injured (although I'm only going on what was in the news). Communication is the sort of thing that could really help those guys and show compassion in a tough time like that _(and it is pragmatic for sorting out problems)._ Britain and India make a lot of friends _(history, immigration, and being good guys for solving problems like Idi Amin, etc.)_ and they are often good at english speaking, so such technology could be a way those in Kashmir could help each other out without it being prohibitive to entry by cost. They'd find somebody good at it there ion account of the computing culture in India. Family is important.
Great info.
Big thanks dude.
The world needed this video. So many people think that signal is very privacy conscientious which is not. Signal have so much time without publishing any commits or anything.
Most messaging apps work that way… one is simply not aware given we don’t “see” what goes on “under the hood”. Hope this episode gets a few viewers curious about how the internet works.
Signal is still privacy conscientious.
EdrumSense - honestly Signal's source code is very elegantly written. Signals security kung-fu is strong.
When it comes to a higher attack surface WebRTC is Signals biggest weakness. WebRTC is literally used everywhere and it's code is extremely complicated and complex.
I’m curious to get your input on which is more private, Signal or Telegram?
Works similar on android. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this Sun.. Btw, what do you think about matrix? Have heard about it in passing but not sure about how secure it is.
Matrix is an interesting project, but Signal is arguably better for privacy. The one “feature” that I do not like from Matrix is federation (which I love in many other contexts). I like being in “control” of content.
@@sunknudsen Got it! Thanks
Great video and advice Sun! Could you please make a video or comment here which communication app is the safest? Signal, Telegram etc.
@dl90mba Thanx man, I appreciate your good explanation!
Any digital device that gets on the net needs to have an IP and it has to be shared with others. So your point being?
Why do you have IPv6 turned off in Mullvad?
We would love a video about what’s the best messaging app for privacy
Whats the word on Session? Has anyone tried that app and tested its security?
Happy New Year Mr Knudsen!
On one hand, I want to thank you for this video and all of them. It is very helpful.
On the other, I would like to know if you have any recommandations for a free email provider? I have a Gmail account and I want to get rid of it.
Thanks again,
Marc-André
Ohh please tag me in the answer thanks

I was thinking the same. QC? Whoa! This whole time!
you trust vpns more than apple?
Interesting. Don’t most phones use a dynamic IP tho? So maybe not that bad.
Yes (ish), but not on Wi-Fi…
😱!
i dont call people on signal
At 5:42 you said that "if we are having a call and we trust each other it is actually better for our privacy to not have the call routed through Signal's infrastructure" !! Please explain to me thoroughly why is that the case . Why is it not safe to route calls through Signal ?
Thank you .
You would be sending and receiving data from the other party directly rather than through the app infrastructure, so the data can't be captured in transit to their servers. All your messages are routed through the infrastructure though so this is kind of a pointless thing.
@@ayecab What is pointless ? It is peer to peer right ?
@@user-dx4kf4li3l What I mean by pointless is that the Signal infrastructure is already acting as the relay to send and receive messages between you and your contacts, and we're relying on the end-to-end encryption to protect the messages in transit. So assuming the encryption works, the privacy benefits of peer to peer communications for video and audio are very limited.
@@ayecab What stupid NONSENSE are you spewing ? Signal is open source , peer to peer , end to end encrypted and the encryption method is the BEST . If you believe that the best method of encryption doesnt work (LOL) then go use facebook and instagram you moron . LOL . Even though Signal's infrastructure act as the relay they have NO information to give if they are being asked . Educate yourself and stop spreading dumb nonsense if you are ignorant .
Algorithm.

Hey Michael, thanks so much for considering supporting my work. I just started accepting Cardano donations… perhaps you will actually be the first. sunknudsen.com/donate/cardano
