      Not many people know that it was the Scots-Irish "over-mountain men" from the Carolinas and Virginia that whipped a particularly arrogant Scotsman(Maj. Patrick Ferguson) commanding a Tory regiment serving for the British at King's Mountain in North Carolina in the Revolution. Ferguson threatened to "punish" the "rebels" in the mountains just as the infamous Banastre Tarleton "punished" the Americans in the Carolina lowlands. A sharp-shooting mountain man rather decisively ended Ferguson's military career with one well-placed shot, and pretty much decided the battle after his brothers-in arms decimated Ferguson's Tories with their well-known marksmanship.

    This air (the title literally means "John's Garden" in Irish Gaelic) started as a drinking song of the Limerick area, Ireland, prior to adoption as a regimental march by James Wynne's Dragoons, a unit that fought under William of Orange in the war of 1688. A number of British regiments used this piece as a march prior to its adoption by the 7th Cavalry Division, U. S. Army.

    Bag pipes and kilts are Scottish? Are they descended from Ulster Scots?

    • @mkeibergin3775
      @mkeibergin3775 Рік тому

      Actually the Kilts the Scots wear today are not the proper original Kilts/Kelts which are IRISH. The Kilts worn today by the Scots were designed for an English King named Gorge, the first English King to visit Scotland for a long long time who refused to wear the Scottish dress, this so called Kilt which the Scots wear today is actually a skirt. It is not at all like the original Kilt/Kelt/ which is IRISH. If you want to look up this there are Dutch Drawings and Illustrations of the IRISH Dress back in the 16th and 17th Centuries which show the wonderful and magnificent colours of the IRISH Dress which are the proper Kilts/ Kelts worn. These can be found in books if you care to look them up. yours Brian Boru
