    I always carry a prism in my bag when filming weddings, ready to use it for a ton of creative in-camera effects. Is it possible to improve upon my basic prism though? There’s a small company called Prism Lens FX trying to do just that! I tested their prism and lens filters at a wedding, and am now ready to share if they are worth the price.

    You can always glue a 1/4 inch female mount (cost a couple of bucks) and add a simple small arm that cost 20bucks. Diy rule in this case

    I encountered this problem recently working on a short film and came up with mounting a prism to some 15mm rods with electrical tape, worked incredibly well

  • @ekphotography

    Amazon sells one with the 1/8 thread on it also for 18.00. You can get a cheap arm for 25.00 enough said. Buffnerds is asking way too much for theirs. I will wait for a Chinese knock off of the prism filter.

    • @BrightsideBLVD
      @BrightsideBLVD 4 роки тому

      ekphotography bro I said the same thing. They have a prism cube, triangle prism, and the crystal ball with threads in them for super cheap on amazon. Buff nerds is super expensive and too overpriced. Even without the threads seems like something you can do at home.

    • @TheBuffNerds
      @TheBuffNerds 4 роки тому

      ekphotography that unfortunate...unfortunately we price them we here we can continue to build creative tools for creators while staying in business. We aren’t a multinational major corporation. But instead you’ll wait for one to copy and knock off our product instead of supporting what we build created and have an official patent on for inventing. All love tho

    • @ekphotography
      @ekphotography 4 роки тому +2

      TheBuffNerds hey Man, love your channel but bought one before you all sold them for 14.00 on amazon. So no one copied anything of yours...👌🏻 I used prisms 20 years ago for photography...

    • @TheBuffNerds
      @TheBuffNerds 4 роки тому +1

      ekphotography we invented the mountable prism. We have a patent on it which means it didn’t exist before we created it. I’m not saying we invented prisms, because we didn’t, but we certainly created the mountable prism which is now being copied illegally. Again all love. You just need to know the facts.

    • @BrightsideBLVD
      @BrightsideBLVD 4 роки тому +1

      TheBuffNerds bro I thought you were quitting UA-cam?? 🤔 🤔 you don’t have to prove yourself. Yeah I think a lot of your stuff is high in price and a replica of stuff that’s already out (star filter, multi image prism, etc) but I’m sure the reasoning is to pay to make it, parts, shipping, etc. nobody really can tell you your worth homie. Keep doing your thing and if I see that your inventing something “original” high priced or not I’ll purchase. Still supporting you regardless. No harm no foul. Keep doing ya thing.

    • @BrightsideBLVD

      Go Polaris Studio small rig has a arm just like the one shown but instead of a screw on one end it’s a clamp. Search it in amazon. It’s around the same price. It works just as well homie

    Hmmmmmm... I would try a small magic arm, like the ones smallrig have for a monitor, with a clamp at the end to hold the prism. The magic arm can screw straight into a socket on the side of an L plate on the camera, if there is an L plate for your head. Or if you have a cage, it would screw into that. If magic arm doesn't work maybe heavy duty flexible arm like Manfrotto's. Little clamps are your friend, you can add a lot of stuff in front of a lens, including other types of glass, or a whole damned chandelier!

    • @BrightsideBLVD
      @BrightsideBLVD 4 роки тому

      Ronan Delaney just bought 14 dollar prism with the thread on amazon and a smallrig arm and it works just fine homie! Got them both for less than 35

  • @CallousSonnallous

    Get an acrylic prism (or something similar that melts against decent heat)
    Get one of those brass inserts
    Use a soldering iron to insert the brass insert into the prism- boom, you have the $60-odd prism
    You could DIY that arm mount too if you're handy with 3D printing and have some screws and ball heads (or can source the equivalent metal DIY parts.)
    Those oddly shaped prisms might be more difficult to source, though, at least for the DIY
    Those prisms look pretty damn cool though- I might need to get one for landscape macro

    The light streaks and flares can be achieved with a $0 piece of cardboard, which is installed inside the lens or on the rear element. It's called Anamorfake....Anamorphic lenses are used for the wide format and their ability to minimize distortions at close range (using wide angle lenses for portrait shots).

    I don't use prisms, decided that a long time ago. If you do the shot, then you can never use it as a clean shot. I find the lens flare from post effects are better. But every cameraman has their own style etc. which I respect. I'm glad we're not all the same.. that would be boring :)
