Obligatory "Shirakumo hits harder when you read the spinoff" comment. Tbh, Shirakumo was one of the best parts about the Vigilantes spinoff. That being said, I find it impressive that the show can make people feel emotional for a character that was just introduced and already killed off. The whole "I had a friend who died" is usually something that I dislike, but this episode makes it work really well tbh.
It's because Horikoshi properly laid the groundwork. Elements of Eraserhead's character (the expulsions, the goggles, etc) were directly caused by his friend's death, and he always had an air of someone carrying trauma. By setting up the pins waaaay back in Episode 5, Season 1, they made this shot 4 1/2 seasons later an absolute strike. The name and character may not have ever been mentioned until now, but his presence affected everything since back then.
@@Valandar2it's actually even better, because early into season 5 his hame IS mentioned briefly by aizawa and present mic
"It's not like they're gonna change anything in the intro"
SO ABOUT THAT.
“I don’t wanna be here take me back to the children”
I wish it was that easy😔
Aizawa's teaching methods make a lot more sense now huh? Didn't want anyone ending up like his friend did. I'd say that Eraser is one of the most caring characters on the show, even if he hates showing it overtly.
This episode hits harder if you have read the spin off manga
If i remember correctly aizawa's backstory with shirakumo appeared in the spin off manga before the main manga
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has been slated for an Anime Adaptation.
I hope that everyone will avoid spoiling anything else that happens in it in the comments.
@@ArlanKels Not confirmed.
also fun fact about the nomu who fought Endeavor: we saw him at the underground arena in the spin-off Vigilante same as Rappa and we see as well Mirko here
The cotton candy joke makes more sense in the Japanese pun
Yep, it's a play on his "I am here!" catchphrase:
_watashi ga kita_ = "I am here!"
_watagashi kida_ = "It's a cotton candy machine"
I think the dub had a hard time using this joke as well
5:07 nah fr , all might loses his quirk than suddenly everyone forgets he exist, i was sad for him when he made that face after asking for aizawa
Ah yes my favorite. Plot twist that makes no sense unless you're a manga reader.
4:41 also, this is way more funny in dub. He says i am here the symbol of sweets! And guys! I put ALL my MIGHT into this gag and you’re completely ignoring it.
Yeah. xD The English Dub for my hero is one of the best in all of anime for me. They do it just so well, and the writing for it is actually top notch.
XD I love when the Japanese puns get translated to English because it makes the characters always look crazy. Bakugo and King Explosion Murder is easily my favorite because he’s making a pun off his name, but he sounds absolutely feral in English and it’s hilarious.
@@Kaempfdog It was interesting following Suede's pokemon journey for that very reason. There were certainly others, but him explaining how some of the tricksy translation efforts actually yielded pretty darn good approximations of the original comedic intent.
So little bit of background, mha has a canon prequel spin of manga calf mha vigilantes, which is a new story it takes five years before the original with new characters and stories, but also more screen time and character moments to some characters in the main story. it’s really good, I honestly like it more then the main manga, but anyway.
The Mha vigilantes and mha manga liked to sort of run things side by side with each other. Example, the drug trigger was introduced in vigilantes a month before it was in the manga, and in the case of shirokumo, we got a entire flashback ark that showed what happened to him while developing present mic and eraserhead. It’s really cool. And hopefully vigilantes will get animated so we can see that story, and erasers
In some ways, Vigilantes actually improves aspects of My Hero. Like, it makes aspects of the series hit harder, and Shirakumo is a good example of that. While I don't think Vigilantes is anywhere near as good as the original manga, it's worth a read for that reason alone.
@@You-Tube-n5k I like I a lot better in my opinion. Koichi pop and knuckleduster are some of my favorite characters ever
@@jaredtheastralartist2510 Knuckleduster is amazing, and while I really love Koichi and Kuzuho (Pop), I don’t think they’re nearly as good as some of the characters from the original series (not that I wanted them to be). I also like Captain Celebrity. He’s basically just Endeavor if his arc was good lol. And Number 6 was a pretty good villain too (granted he’s more or less just a fusion of Shigaraki and Dabi, but he has enough uniqueness to work on his own.) I think Vigilantes loses me a bit more with the protagonists. Again, I love Koichi, and Kazuho is one of my favorite characters concept-wise, but I can’t say they’re as good as the protagonist storylines in the main line manga. I could go into why that is if you’d like, but I’ve already made this comment unnecessarily long. Sorry about that.
I like how in the last one Alicia was convinced that a certain someone was alive, and also a villain. And then she’s immediately introduced to Shirakumo, who also has the, “I had a best friend when I was younger and he died, but now he’s back and he’s a villain,” thing going on. 😅
I think this episode is one of the best episodes in the season. Aizawa has always acted like he’s carried heavy crap across the show, and when he finally breaks here it fills in exactly why he’s become who he is. And considering this isn’t all the context, it did very well getting across to non-Vigilante readers who often felt awful because it broke Aizawa’s poker face, and it forced Present Mic to be INCREDIBLY serious. And the two of them are literally screaming at their friend’s corpse hoping he answers from LITERALLY beyond the grave.
There’s a reason messing with corpses is such a serious crime. The turmoil you can cause is MASSIVE. Aizawa forced himself as hard as he did not just for himself but because he didn’t want his FAMILY to be subjected to such a fate of doing the same. Here’s your child’s body, scream at it til he responds.
And this is where I feel really strongly about AFO as a villain and Gran Torino and All-Might avoiding Deku’s fate as the OFA holder. They protect him and hide things like this from him because he’s too young to be involved in an investigation about what AFO and the Doctor do to corpses to get their soldiers.
hey alicia do you recognize the doctor in that end scene? its the same guy who told Deku he had no quirk in the first episode
To make this episode and twist make sense, you'd have to read My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. It's part of the Present Mic, Aizawa, and Midnight backstories. Very incredible character and story work for a canon spin-off manga.
In the second ending of season 4, there were some school pictures and one of them was of Aizawa and Mic. You could also see just a bit of Shirakumo's hair and back in that picture as well, granted at the time, anime-only watchers would have no idea about it.
The big reveal that the villainous Mr. Blackmist may actually be our mentors' old friend Mr. Whitecloud.
Started watching this video after listening to Plankton go crazy on a metal track.
What a time to be alive
Kurogiri = Black Mist
Shirakumo = White Cloud
You didn't recognize the doctor at the end? That's the same guy who diagnosed baby Midoriya as quirkless, based on his toe joints in the very first episode.
Man, once again, every time I see her get emotional i want her to watch the Fruit Basket remake, cause I know she gonna baby 90% of the characters but I also know she is gonna be a crying mess every other chapter
Lets go the beginning of my villain academia and the meta liberation war arc🔥🔥
*looks at FMA reaction. Then looks at what's coming up for MHA*
Yeah good luck.
Kid named Tenko:
Yeah there's more context for this in the Vigilantes spin off,
however apparently it'll be receiving an anime adaptation at some point so there's no point in spoiling it (however I can say it's a 10/10 manga)
I was disappointed Hori didn't really acknowledge Midnights friendship with the trio but all things considered a shocking Vigilantes arc followed by this shocking mini arc was a crazy experience
I thought he kind of did with Mic’s statement in the next season? Was that not in the manga? (I have somehow missed some chapters and the anime caught me up on those while I’m further ahead) And if you don’t know what statement I mean obviously can’t say any more….
@@kaltheinya he does but not to the extent of the writers of the other spin offs
With this context, eraser threatening to expel Deku for breaking his body is radically recontextualised. He was worried Deku was gonna get killed like his friend. 😢
This episode hit me so hard. It's such a dark turn in the story. Like you said, the beginning of the messed up arc. I believe this was the first point in the show where I full-on cried. I got choked up or maybe a tear or two before. And through the reactions, the music alone is enough to get my tears flowing. But man, did this show start hitting me harder than ever from here on out. Going back to season 1 gives me the same feeling as the hobbits returning to The Shire in Lord of the Rings after all is done. It reminds me of a Dutch word I read about years ago: hiraeth. Hiraeth is the longing to return to a home which no longer exists or can never be again. It's a specific feeling that really tears at my heart.
Hi I know you wont read this but a bit of context about Shirakumo if your not planning to read the spinnoff Vigilantes
Shirakumo and Aizawa were doing a work study and a giant villain came up and knocked out every sungle hero in the scene including mic except the 2 the giant had a quirk to absorb stuff and throw it back at people. It used the heroes attacks to collapse a building and there were children nearby that Shirakumo used his cloud quirk to block the debris which meant he had 0 protection on himself, Shirakumo got burried in rubble in front of shota and shota had to face the villain alone, due to lack of confidence he couldn't think he didn't know what to do but then shirakumo started encouraging Shota through their walkie talkie things, Shota was inspired and manages to beat the villain on his own thanks to Shirakumo cheering him on. later on Shota discovered Shirakumo died the moment the debris knocked him out even the walkie talkie was broken the whole time, Shota was just imagining the words of encouragement the whole time
I can't wait for the next arc! Shit is absolute peak 😯

4:10 - Actually...... if we were talking about this kinda injury IRL that's 100% what you should do. Never remove anything that has lodged itself into your body because that might be the thin line between life or death.
Or like just making the wound worse... lol. But goddamnit Deku
As someone who dropped the series before this season for manga reasons this is probably the best way to fill the gap

Now I get why ppl were upset about the arks getting switched around.
I’m praying for her with these last couple of episodes 🙏
Bakugo: I'm not pleased!
Me: Are you ever?
noooooooo you have to watch the opening! because they do change it!
All ill say is keep plenty of tissues on hand going forward from here; you're going to need them (for the happy and the sad) until you're caught up
The dub of this scene hit hard.
.... aww man poor shiggy. That looked painful.
3:43 I always assumed that thing was fabric, like a bandana or something.
Let’s go!!! more MHA reactions! 🔥🔥🔥💚💚💚
4:40 all might thinks he beelzebub
shirakumo means "white cloud"
kurogiri means "black mist"
IDA stroke game is crazy
Shirakumo, the og Kirishima🥲
Day 105 of asking Alicia to play Nier:Automata!!
It's a terrible day for rain!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
This was hinted at in s1.
Hey remember that doctor appeared in episode 1
I would like to know what styling products Present Mic uses so his hair doesn’t get blown around the the rest of them outside of Tartarus. Just saying…
I wanna know if you actually recognize the doctor experimenting on Shigaraki. You probably don't but you HAVE seen him before
First finally! Have a good Day Alicia!
I wonder if she noticed who the doctor was?
2:09 Is he by any chance related to the Presley family?
Poor Aisawa and Mic...
How horrible would we be if we convinced Alicia to watch goblin slayer...? 🤔
Made in Abyss. Enough said.
@@nicodalusong149 ehh... i think she might end up throwing up at some point, depending on her tolerance to body horror
@@bloodybahamut3742 That would be a valid reaction and I'd watch it. The whole reason I picked the show was exactly because I knew it would absolutely illicit a response from her one way or another.
@@nicodalusong149 fair point
Just curious you think mha vigilantes should be a anime show in your opinions?
Spinoff anime coming eventually
SHEE NEARLYYY THERE!!!!!
SEASON 6 COMINGG sOONNn
And shes going to cry so much which will be quite annoying.
"It's still in there!?" Removing embedded things from wounds can be.... ill advised for inexperienced people. Triply so if they lack the proper tools.
And given the comment about, "cerebrospinal fluid," it's not making me laugh, but feel like episode one Bakugo is back or worse. Drawing attention to the damage and drawing the "gag" out like this isn't funny, it's disturbing.
I hope one day you do a reaction to Ancient Magus' Bride anime, or at the least the openings. Not enough people react to either
