    I was struggling with horrible carpal tunnel in my hands during my last trimester and couldnt crochet and it was such a struggle. I was always looking at my yarn longingly. my hands would just completely go numb if i tried to crochet and it was so frustrating. im so grateful it has eased up after pregnancy. My hands are a little stiff when i first wake up still, but i am mostly back to being able to crochet and craft. I had realized that all of my favorite hobbies rely a ton on using my hands. crochet, playing the cello, painting, and even video games was a struggle. I am glad you are taking care of yourself and resting. hopefully things will ease up and you can go back to crocheting a bit.

      I'm so glad your hands are feeling better. But yeah, I had the same realisation....so much of what I love doing relies heavily on my hands. Not good when you've got to give them a break 😂.

      Aww good luck, I hope your pain subsides. I also had bad wrist pains when I was pregnant, the Dr prescribed pill for me after pregnancy and it’s gone now☺️. I hope your pain just disappears😊

      if it's not a problem can you tell me how you knew you had carpal tunnel? like the symptoms and what test the doctor did to get the diagnost

    • @AdolosFlow
      @AdolosFlow 5 місяців тому

      @@mysteria_1305 my hands felt very stiff, like trying to make a fist wasn’t easy. I also didn’t have my normal hand strength and my boyfriend was having to open all my drinks for me. My hands would go completely numb while laying down, holding them up to look at my phone, even holding my hand up holding a fork to eat. It would usually start with a tingling sensation in my ring finger and pinky and then going completely numb and stiff. The doctors really didn’t do much, as it was just at my obgyn appointments for the baby. They said it was common during pregnancy and just suggested that I sleep with a hand/ wrist brace on at night, and said it would go away after the pregnancy.

      @@AdolosFlow mmk, I was told I have it give braces to wear. However, my finger tips get tingly and sensitive randomly once in a while but that's it so i'm not convinced.The test was taping my wrist and seeing if the sensation went away or not.
      Thank you for sharing, just wanted to get others experiences and compare

    ah, yep, i feel your pain. i constantly have this with my headaches and migraines. i draw digitally, and screens make then so much worse, so i end up just sitting around, thinking about my next artwork, and wondering if i should gamble on hand pain and crochet instead, lol. hope everything works out, and you are back to doing what you want real soon.

    Hi sweetie. As someone who is struggling with hand and wrists pain I understand how you feel.
    Knitting and crocheting are my sanity. Like yourself I have a number of health issues that I try to just get on with life as best I can. Not being able to craft is literally messing with my head.
    Last week I managed three single crochet on an amigurumi in the whole week.
    I'm finding crochet is more painful than knitting, less movement in knitting. But when you are in the middle of your granddaughter's birthday present and a bear she has asked for......
    So I've cast on a pair of socks. Lol.
    Keep smiling hunny. xxJane 🐑🌼

      Thank you for your kindness Jane. As frustrating as it is, it's comforting to know many of us are in the same boat. I wish you luck with your granddaughters present, I'm hoping I'll be able to finish off Easter presents for my nieces and nephews too 💙

    I hope you are feeling better! I'm just confused though (nothing new there😆), last week you wanted to try a new craft, and not crochet, and now this week you are bummed because you can't crochet...Why not just do a new craft 🤨 LOL Whatever makes you happy, is all that matters, and a speedy recovery on your hands as well of course 💜💜

      Cheers! Just a bit if bad timing lol. I started the new craft video a few weeks ago (I mentioned in this vid I try and start projects in advance) well before I got the news I couldn't crochet and beacause I wasn't sure how a new craft might affect my body physically, I didn't want to risk potentially making things worse 💙.

    When you're allowed to again, it would be interesting to see comparisons against different egonomic adjustments for crocheting. For example, a much thicker handle grip. Not just a grip for a pencil but one that's large enough to be more the hook resting in your hand versus gripping the hook tightly

    As a fellow disabled art-making, crochet-doing person, I feel like it's SO important to follow fellow disabled creative people! Always nice to remind yourself you aren't alone, plus it's great to see what others do when they can't do their favorite hobbies! I know this video is a little older, but I'm only just seeing it because I myself was avoiding crochet content while similarly unable to crochet, lol. I'm out of the particular flare up, but still forcing myself to only do a little at a time. It sucks, lol, but at least I am able to watch crochet content again without just feeling sad about it!

    This makes me feel much more validated about my own medical issues and the arthritis in my hands. This helps me be kinder to myself when I have to say no to working on a project because my back feels like it has an ice pick in it or my hands want to spasm. Also Ark is an awesome game and I love that you play that as well.

    I took a self imposed 6 month break from crochet a couple of years back, due to wrist pain, but it really wasn't an issue. I took up a bit of Zen Tangling/Doodling, which was a great way to feed the creative drive. Also the usuals - reading, and online games (Stardew Valley is the best!), and recently I've taken up jigsaws again after a LONG break from them. Once I tidied all my yarn away, cleared the decks, so to speak, there was so much else to do, and I actually really enjoyed the break from it!

  • @ellie38gwen
    @ellie38gwen 5 місяців тому +1

    Jigsaw puzzles are a great one arm craft alternative. I have spent extended times with only one functional wrist and jigsaws can be done with either your dominant or non-dominant. The have saved my sanity a few times 😊
    I hope you can get back to crochet quickly.

    I fell one time climbing onto a curb (I’m also a forearm crutch user) and ended up with bursitis in my shoulder. I had to get a pain shot but I’ve been relatively okay since. I tend to forget just how much wear and tear just WALKING puts on my back, neck, and shoulders, and wrists because of my crutches… Truly a balancing act between hobbies and merely existing. I hope your prognosis is good and that you can get to crocheting again soon! Don’t forget lots of water and stretches.

    Recently been trying to give myself more breaks by reading more books, but for some reason 🤔 i now own enough books to see me throughout the yr😂😂😂,toss up between buying yarn or books 📚 is a tough challenge 😂😂😂

    I know too well the struggle of being limited in what you can do when chronic health issues rear their ugly head. I'm glad you're taking the time your body needs and resting up! I hope the break has been super healing for you and that you'll be back doing what you love soon!
    In the mean time I think exploring health friendly hobbies is a great idea with the gaming and exploring less physically intensive creative outlets to give your body some rest but give your mind something to chew on. I like to rotate between a few hobbies so if my body isn't letting me do one, I can hop to the other for a bit which makes my flares a bit easier.

    Maybe this isn’t relevant to your no-crochet situation, but:
    I was crocheting with my wrists bent and it was aggravating my carpal tunnel and making my hand go numb, and then all of my fingers and wrist would ache. SO I started crocheting with my wrist brace on because that’s how my pain goes away, and I got used to crocheting with straight wrists, and now I can crochet all day without aggravating my carpal tunnel.
    TLDR: crochet hand/wrist pain? Crochet with a wrist brace on to get used to keeping your wrists straight to reduce pain.

    I couldn’t crochet for two weeks and it was TORTURE, so I truly feel for you! I found a solution to the problem…I learned to crochet with my other hand. That’s not always an option because at times both my hands/arms/fingers are out of commission but if it’s an option I’ll take it. I don’t know whether that helped or enabled you but I felt compelled nonetheless. 😂😊BTW…your video ideas are next level!

    I definitely feel for you. Hoping for all the healing for you. I had to take around a month or so off last year for medical reasons and it was very rough for me mentally. I was in occupational therapy for it for three or so months. I'm doing better but I can no longer do marathon crochet days. But I can do an hour or two a day with breaks.
