    Not gonna lie, kinda hurts seeing P16 be borderline obsolete. Twas the first heavy truck I found that FELT like a proper heavy truck that could just eat up mud (and fuel) and keep on going with a heavy trailer. Sure it can ONLY take trailers and has no real addons to speak of, but the fact that it could still tow other trucks through mud like that one special trailer mission in Alaska on the first map with the long stretch of super mud, just keeps a special place in my heart.

      Indeed. When you get to unlocking it early on it really makes an introduction. A beast that can really turn the tides of your fleet. Nowadays it doesn't have the same impact, even for new players that buy all the DLC from the start as there's heavy trucks like the Mastodon that you can have access to immediately. However, playing it sequentially and you get an early game introduction into what a heavy truck is capable of.

      It will always remain in my fleet, the really high saddle and its off road capabilities make it almost unmatched for towing oversized super heavy trailers. Plus, being from the Pacific Northwest myself, it will forever have a place in my heart.

      There's a really cool mod for a twin steer p16 with the regular frame length and it's extremely small file size like 0.3 or something like that.. the only problem is there's this bug with it where the back is kinda messed up. Like an invisible extra 2 feet of frame on the back that won't allow you to use hardly any of the trailers. They won't really turn it gets stuck in the invisible frame extension... Shame because it's a real monster of a truck and looks phenomenal but it's only really usable as a scout or recovery. If you wanna pull a winched truck like for some of the missions it will pull anything..

    The fact that I still routinely use all of these trucks except the Fleetstar (I also don't have the Renegade) shows that these evaluations largely depend on how people approach SnowRunner and what kind of playstyle they have. At this point in the game one can basically do everything with the two big ZikZs, the Kenworth 963, and use only the Tatarin and Yar 87 as scouts. And die of boredom in the process. ;-) But I always appreciate your videos and point of view, because they're always thought-provoking. Keep up the good work! //Rick

      I never played Russian regions, cos, like, I'm already living in Russia, nothing interesting for me there, and I always use free trucks. I use FleetStar as my main routine hauler, I WISH I hated it, but no matter how hard I push the 'Star it just refuses to disappoint me. It's one of the practically most fuel efficient American trucks in the game (means tested over real mild offeoad course, not just by revving the engine) because it's so lightweight, it has fast steering, which makes it a spicy little driver's truck. I also appreciate manual AWD and differential locks, adds to the driving pleasure.
      The real obsolete truck is, unfortynately, the prettiest in the game - the Paystar 5070. There's simply no point in buying one when FleetStar can do everything it can, and the Mk38 VASTLY outclasses it. And those add-on choices are irrelevant, cos you always can use whatever free option available for that one task that can't be done using the Mk38 or FleetStar.

    • @sgt_kissekatt6686
      @sgt_kissekatt6686 4 місяці тому +1

      Two things, first with the mention, P16, its quite understandable that something like the Boar outclasses the P16, but when it comes to like the "Kenny", I disagree, as its not a reasonable comparison, the P16 has a massive advantage over the kenny when it comes to pulling big long trailers.
      And that is the length of the truck, the longer the truck the harder it is to manouver the longer trailers around corners, trees etc.
      2nd, the fleetstar, calling that obselete hurts :,(
      Sure its one of the very first trucks you get, but even later on, as long as you give it some tires and other upgrades.
      Its straight up an amazing medium truck! Sure i wont use it to pull heavy trailers, but I feel thats just the wrong job for the right truck.
      Instead I use it with crane and bed, for the smaller things going back and forth, sure there are similar sized trucks that beat mud better, but not at that fuel efficiency! Also I dont understand calling it unstable? Its not top heavy, no issue as long as obstacles are taken at reasonable speed.
      Oh and dont forget the Fleetstars approchangle! With the front wheels that far forward it takes a lot for the bumper to get stuck on something.
      Sorry for rant.

      It’s a decent trailer hauler(not the semi type though) if u keep 1 pallet of wood/or a scout in the back(tow truck style) to keep rear traction it keeps all the wheels on the ground and it pulls very well.

    The freightliner at #6 is actually quite good, youre just using it wrong.
    Put chained tires on it, and use it as a high saddle truck.
    It has some of the highest torque in the game, and it's short wheelbase is good for maneuverability with the longer trailers. I see people use long wheel base trucks with long trailers, and they get stuck on turns all the time. Everyone gets that wrong, it's hilarious to watch.

    P12's obselesence is why I have no qualms using the P12 ORCA II mod. Sure, if you max it out it is basically OP but if you configure it well, it's just a vanilla P12 with some realistic upgrades to bring it even with other trucks in game. In my opinion, this is the best part of modding - experimenting to find mods that fit well in the game without being OP

    Sometimes it is about the voyage and not the destination. With the released map DLCs of the Year 3-Pass I've found myself using all of the western-type trucks and scouts and having fun with them. These maps contain large areas where you can still use vehicles without superior abilities. So I can't agree with you on the "obsolete" part. Just hours ago I've used the ANK 38 with trailer to transport some supplies and metal beams to an oil pump building and the small amount of fuel carried in its tank made the trip even more interesting to me.

  • @dozerfarms
    @dozerfarms 6 місяців тому +5

    My biggest issue with the P12 was that it felt very underpowered. I ran non-dual construction tires on it and even in low the truck would just freeze up in amything above moderate mud. It didn't offer enough power to keep going, and I often found myself winching it out of relatively easy conditions.
    The P16, on the other hand, was a great truck. Sure it was only RWD, but it had full time Diff Lock and pulled like a locomotive. The problem with that, however, is the lack of options (if I remember correctly, there are no chained or studded tires for winter regions, and it can only be used as a tractor), and the horrendous turning radius. Because Diff lock is always on (meaning both the left and right wheels turn at the same speed) and not having power to the front wheels to help redirect the nose of the truck, even road bends were like 11-point turns.
    Eventually, it just got to the point where I gave up and mained the Kodiak for cargo, the GMC MH9500 for low-saddle trailers or large (and somewhat accessible) orders (as I paired it with a 5-slot sideboard trailer and minicrane), and the 745C for logs. I still have the P16 and use it for longer logs, I just have to perform winch-assisted turns and try my best to stay near winch points.
    All of this because I'm too stubborn to use anything else 😅

    2:46 I find that the frieghtliner is best used as vehicle transport. It has excellent pulling power, and having the tapered heavy transport trailer hitch helps with maneuverability.
    4:48 I still use the P12 as a medium log hauler simply because I have no dlcs. It still works pretty well as long as you aren't climbing a mountain, and its still awesome to drive lol
    7:04 The P16 may have been outted by the boar and kenworth, but it still holds a place in my and many others hearts as the truck with the best horn

It's meant to be your most capable truck at the start of the game, and it does that job very well.

    In my eyes the utility addons for newer trucks make them superior over older, basically good trucks. I e.g. P512, ANK or AZOV 5519 would have fuel addon on their roof, they would be waay better in comparism to the new ones!

    After driving it for a bit, I've actually found the Sprinter works quite well as a sort of 'Mega Scout'. It might not have an autonomous winch or a bunch of supplies, but set up properly it'll go quite a ways on its regular tank, and it's stable enough that you really have to do sonething stupid to roll it.
    The Fleetstar is easily my "Jack of all trades, Master of none" truck. If I'm ever uncertain about what I'm going to need, its the truck I'll jump to. There are better trucks, yes, but the Fleetstar is a truck that will always get me there, if a tad slowly.
    I recently gave the Freightliner another try, and honestly, it really surprised me. Excellent power, and thanks to its short length, its excellent for backing up trailers. Its a one trick pony, but as long as you keep its tanks filled, its a great heavy hauler that can do almost everything the bigger trucks can do.
    The Tatra could very much use an autonomous winch, but using the base engine actually really improves its driveability. Its just too fast with its top engine imo.

    Recently I have started tweaking a lot of truck for my own pleasure and focusing on matching specs with the real thing. I found sales brochures for Pacific trucks saying that they do offer 6x6 configurations for their line up not to mention *very* prominently state that they will customize the trucks to order so long as their Engineering department approved it. So when you add AWD and a low saddle to the P16 it's completely legit.
    I do feel that some trucks like the Freightliner are actually bugged in terms of trailer fitment and that they are in need of patching.
    Funny thing about a lot of obsolete trucks is that by the time I unlock the newer better trucks I still tend to keep driving the old ones because I can't be bothered to stop long enough to make the switch and refit the new truck at great cost as well.

    My biggest qualm with this game recently has been that it seems like most the American or Canadian trucks are weaker than a glass of water while all the Russia trucks are 8x8’s with two 24 valve engines, just something ridiculous. That paired with the fact that every map since the first three original maps and the kola map have all been 3 foot deep mud swamps that every vanilla truck struggles with, hell I’ve even had some mod trucks struggles in areas, it just seems like they add those areas to make it take more time convincing you that there is way more DLC than there actually is.

    Fleetstar is a great all around truck through the entirety or the game except Amur. I use it consistently.
    Totally agree on Silverado, you can sell it and buy the IH Pickup and its a straight upgrade in every single way.
    Ank is easily one of my favorite trucks, put a fuel trailer on it, amd its tires, and you have an unstoppable truck that can haul anything.
    Don71 I totally agree, bought it once at launch and have never used it again.
    The Freightliner is another truck I use all the time, it's an awesome truck for big trailers and if I don't need the P16, it's my go to for mission trailers.
    Tatra 805, I agree, looks cool, outclassed by literally all the other small medium trucks.
    Sprinter, I agree, it's pretty useless, but I don't think it should be included simply because it's not ever meant to be used for work.
    P12, I agree to a point, the Kenny is a straight upgrade bit the P12 is am excellent truck for hauling 2 sets of medium logs anywhere.
    CJ7 Agreed, looks great, falls below almost everything in utility.
    49X Hard disagree, might br my most used truck, will haul anything, and only annoyance is tag axle, but it's fast, tough, strong and looks great.
    P16 How dare you slander the greatest piece of machinery in the game.
    Bonus: No folding log carts is a sin.

    Honestly, never tought of the 805 as obsolete. I use it quite commonly, and the small size of the truck makes it a good scout especially if you want to naivgate straight through a heavily forested area. And if you like a truck just beacause, mods are good solution , wether you want a more realistic depiction of your favourite truck stats-wise or just to make it blatantly OP. Long story short - Tatra 805 -> a good lil trucc. Still needs a scout winch though…

    One truck in and I've already been personally wronged. I am still using the Fleetstar to this day, because it's great, and it can do anything I ask of it.
    I agree with the Chevy, but I still use 2 of them because I don't use RU vehicles in NA, so the Chevy is the best NA at what it does.
    Agree on the ANK. It's fun to drive, but I use other trucks way more.
    Don is one of the few scouts I've simply never used or owned (mainly because there's no mission giving you a free one). I use other scouts and don't feel the need to get a Don.
    Never used the Freightliner, but yes.
    Yeah, I get why the Tatra 805 is on here. I like the unique service addon, and I use it as a mobile repair truck, but it's not my favorite. No fun to drive.
    Haven't been to Tennessee yet, but I've heard the Sprinter is straight up useless.
    I have no problem with the P12, and I use it all the time, usually as a heavy crane rig. However, I haven't gotten the new Kenworth yet, so that may very well be the successor.
    Don't be hatin' on my Renegade. Among NA scouts, it's absolutely the best at worming its way ANYWHERE.
    You ACTUALLY put the 49X on here? It has power out the ass, can take almost any addon, AND it has stellar fuel economy regardless. That thing is better than most other NA 6x6s.
    I can kinda agree with the P16, but it's a special case. It's only designed to do one thing, and it does that in the game very well, better than a lot of trucks. It just sucks at literally everything else.

    I love my old American trucks and try to get em to work no matter how bad they might be. I used the Flertstar in British Columbia a lot and it did fine, but the White Western is just a better truck altogether. I wish some of them would get buffed maybe. I feel however the small Tatra and the TUZ Warthog need a lot of help. I never use them despite me liking their looks. For difficult rescue missions I always take the Actaeon, as it's offline Winch, good tires and decent power makes it almost unstoppable even when flipped. The M916A1 tho needs help badly I can somewhat live with the trailer catching the Winch tower but I find myself running out of fuel first. Its quite thirsty for it's small tank like the P512. The P12 tho I liked a lot. I didn't really compare it to the Kenny but it's quite similar, with tf he exception that the P12 can have chains and NGL, in phase 1 it was a huge help. How bout a comparison between them to settle it? I wanna know which is better. But in the end, no matter what, I think we can agree that the Sprinter is the most useless truck. Fleetstar is still a good truck for easier regions. You didn't show it perform in mud with offroad tires and of course it's going to tip over on huge cliffs and in tight river beds.
    Almost all scouts are obsolete, anyway. Besides, the Sentinel is a lot easier to tip over than the CK1500.
    Anks are fine, although they are only for short trips.
    UOD II and OHD I have the same stats. Check Maprunner.
    P12 is also good enough and it fits logging nicely. Nerf Kenworth?! Are you serious?
    49X is just like the Fleetstar. Use it in less difficult maps and it'll do just fine.

    • @frumsmcnoodles323
      @frumsmcnoodles323 7 місяців тому

      Same stats for terrain, OHDs weigh more so they have far better traction. The Boar released with UOD only, and got stuck on dry grass, they updated it to OHD and it was 100 times better. That chart with stats is an ok guide to start.

    • @FirebonE_88
      @FirebonE_88 7 місяців тому

      @@frumsmcnoodles323, I don't know about the weight, but what you say could be true. Even so, saying that OHD I are far and 100 times better than UOD II is a big stretch. The difference between them is minimal. For example, the Paystar is equipped with OHD I, but it performs roughly the same as the White Western Star, which is equipped with UOD II. No offence regarding the Boar, but it is still bad for such a big truck. OHD tires don't make it 100 better. Be serious. A far better tire than the UOD II for mud would be the MHS II or the TMHS. Even if the weight aspect is true, the OHD I is marginally any better than the UOD II and the difference in performance most likely comes from the truck itself and the terrain they are driven on. By the way, in the Western Star section of the video, did you notice the trucks weren't tested on the same mud? The 49X was ran on a mud that was already driven in at least once before. That made the difference in that test, not the tires.
