Seal all penetrations with silicon. I've repaired two shower walls and floors where water has leaked through the vertical channel screw holes.

You are not supposed to seal across the bottom on the inside.

Correct. Sealant yellows and attracts mould. Sealant on the outside. Fingers have bacteria. Use a rubber glove.
