Lester the genius..
Amazing how as a 3 year old Commanche run was seen as a stayed, but reinvented himself to win several 1m2f races a year later.
Rode the socks off Cauthen in this race
This was the race (I was a teenager at the time) that I realised how good a jockey Lester was. I didn't have a bet on Commanche Run, but thought at he time Oh So Sharp would win easily.
Lester rode the exact same race on this horse a month later in the Irish champion stakes and won very easily .

I still think they went to the well too often with OH SO SHARP
Brilliant from piggott again , but he got a freebie in front.. A sheikh mohammed pacemaker might have changed the result.
