Just beautiful. Never heard him before and looking forward to hearing more. I love that he uses the guitar as a percussive instrument to deepen the music. The first person I ever saw do that was Tommy Emmanuel, and my absolute favourite of his is Initiation, which is not a tune so much as a soundscape telling the story of an Australian First Nation ritual for adolescent boys to become men, that Tommy was invited to one evening. My favourite version of Initiation is about 20 minutes, played under dark blue lighting to mimic the night sky. The atmosphere and sound of that version is intense, the utter best. But shorter versions under normal lighting make it easier to see the hand movements that are making all the noises. Tommy has three guitars that he’s roughed up to get all the percussive noises he wants for his Initiation-type instrumentals. There are some people unfamiliar with Emmanuel’s talent that think he plays Initition to an electronic backing track, but no, it’s all him, yo.
