Summary of my 2023/2024 river season, often with split cane fishing rods. Lower Severn, Wye, Lugg.

- I started the season on the Lower Severn, caught a few nice Barbel including my first from there on a centre pin reel. Then spent the rest of the season on the Wye and then the river Lugg, my first season mostly using a split cane or glass fibre rod and classic reels. I didn’t do many videos until I started using them, very fortunate to have captured a few takes and battles on camera. Including my personal highlight of a river Lugg Barbel on camera. Hopefully more from this tiny river next season.

Just awsome man after my own heart I want more of this content great to see vintage tackle being used on the bank instead of being a relic left in the garage or shed top rod tight lines
I’ve ‘collected’ 4 split cans rods, all in use. But the temptation is strong to buy more than I need!!!! Just lacking a slightly longer float rod for deeper swims as mines just under 11ft. There’s no doubt the old more mechanical drags are better than modern ones.
Very enjoyable indeed. You had a great season and on wonderful tackle. We might bump into each other next season as we indulge in Lugg love. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.
I’m hoping to spend a lot of time there next season on the HADAA stretches, bound to pass as so much river is covered in a day. Still trying to cut my kit back further for ease.
@@DaleThomas15.2 I wonder how much damage was done by the winter floods as the Lugg seemed to of been hit hard down Mordiford way.
Most enjoyable, the Lugg looks good. I enjoyed a good 2023. 3 pb's. Chub, Barbel and Perch. Roll on June 16th.
I’m looking forward to the Lugg already, hopefully get some Tench and Crucian fishing done in the closed season.
Split cane rods where great back before I was born but I don't see the point when we have much better materials to use.
I’m not certain we do to be honest, it’s my first year using cane after using modern kit for decades. Unless I’m casting a long way with heavy leads on a big river the cane rods cope fine, a medium sized river like the Wye is perfect for them. But I don’t fish the Lower/Tidal Severn with them as they do have they’re limits. 👍
Great video I believe u use 3ft twitch baits.
What's your favourite from the brand??
I’ve been using 3FT for just over a decade now, favourite for coloured water has to be the SG1, Lamprey and Herring a close 2nd. With Redemption my favourite for big rivers with the chance of a Carp.
@@DaleThomas15.2 yeah I love Redemption
And sg1 all I use with the garlic and hemp glug.
Brilliant stuff
