Hemel was a decent town in those days .. fond memories of pub crawls from the Hart, Kings Arms, Rode and Crown.. down to the Plough, then Boxmoor to the Fishery.
I lived in Hemel Hempstead for 8 years when I was young I have very good memories there I love Hemel Hempstead thanks for sharing this video's it was all members coming back thanks
Wow I was in hemel Hempstead today and looks so much different to back then. It makes you wonder what it will look like in another 20 years . Nice video .
1990 the year after i left Hemel Hempstead...... so much of it has gone now and only remains in my memory 😊 the people i knew through my life and i do some times wonder how their lives went?
Thank you so much for posting this. This was exactly the same time as my son was born. The boarding round what used to be the Waggon & Horses is still up. The Full House is non existent & the Pavilion is still there. So was the market. This is around the time Hemel town centre started to loose it's old character and turn into something completely worse. Such great memories. 😢
I was born in Hemel and lived there until emigrating to Germany in 1982. I have only happy memories of my time there. The town had not changed much in 1990, although I noticed that the block of offices which were at the entrance of the town where the old railway bridge used to be were gone. The good old Pavillon Was still there. I enjoyed many good concerts and firms' dinner dances there. To my knowledge it has never been replaced.
I moved away from Hemel on 15th August 1989 having spent my first 9 years there! it's amazing how much I can still remember! And to think the Cinema I remember seeing Bambi in is now a Weatherspoons!
Hemel Hempstead town centre was much better in this time. Now the old walk over bridge is long gone. Modernisation is not good in most cases and definitely not in hemel of today
It was just a home video. We had just been to the park with our children and the video camera and my husband suggested we took a ride to look at how the Marlowes shopping centre was coming along.
@@lorettaanderson4907 Fantastic! Worth a s small fortune now. I lived in Hemel back then, Highfield. Used to "cruise the Marlowes" in my Cortina back in the day and visit Wimpy and that crap night club further down near Bank Court...anyone remember that?
What a superb video! Brings back so many memories! The Marlowes was so nice before the shopping centre was built.
I’m a Hemel boy and this is great footage
Very interesting - brings back old memories - I lived there from 1963 to 1982 - Piccott's End village.

Great! I lived in Hemel from 1978 to 2005, this brought back how it all looked before the pedestrianisation

That was one heck of a noisy old car. Great video btw. :-))
At the top of Combe St. you passed a dark blue VW estate. just might have been my dad, right time for it and right town....
So great to see this!!
“1:40 min ..wife - “if I go to Texas to get some curtains will you put them up””
Husband - “probably not” 😂😂😂
Just before Marlowes was pedestrianised. I notice the lighting columns on Combe Street and Waterhouse Street were being changed too.
And the Pavilion was still standing. Huge mistake.
What ever happened to Texas Homestores? Great memories of my home town.

Kodak tower! Proper old school
Cool vid, lots of memories. Are you still with him?
Its 2016 and OMG its changed
Nostalgic for some, but STILL a shersen haisen. (my take on German)

What was the reason for making the video all those years ago?

I'd be interested to know what car you are driving. It sounds (rattly) and the dash looks like a Mk1 Vauxhall Cavalier...
Yes it was!
