My wife and I have visited this magical place twice. We, also, stayed at the Mawamba Lodge. We have visited Costa Rica 8 or 9 times and Tortuguero remains as one of my favorite destinations. The mangroves are my happy place photographing all of the biodiversity. We've gone on night hikes through the jungle and was even lucky enough to see a jaguar at night along with tarantulas, several snakes, and all sorts of wildlife. Steve is a wonderful and extremely knowledgeable guide. He also does tour through the mangroves during the day with his trusty sidekick Chico. Adventures are around every corner.
@@darkseid1757 Tortuguero is such a gem, one has to experience it themselves to believe it. The place is so pristine, and one of my absolute favorites too! The canoe ride through the mangroves was unbeatable! As you said, a great place to photograph wildlife. Next time I’m in Costa Rica, I have to do more of those day and night hikes.
I recently watched all your videos on your trip to Costa Rica and enjoyed them immensely. I also like your philosophical outlook on going it solo and not being afraid to do so all on your own. This takes loads of courage and plenty of inner strength. So all my respect to you Iryna and very envious of your travels to both Patagonia and Costa Rica. Two places I dream of visiting someday. Hopefully one day when I'm able to do so, you'll avail yourself to the many questions I'll have on where to stay and what to do on my own solo trip and how to plan for both Patagonia and Costa Rica. I was in Puerto Viejo 2 weeks ago and your video shows exactly what I experienced. I wonder though how do you guide yourself to these places? I am not a traveler and always had to ask questions as to what to do and how to get to places with my little to no Spanish, any advice?

Well I always try to do some research before the trip (to be able to pick the places which are extraordinary in a way or one of a kind), and I do speak basic Spanish so I think it helps as well. I also love a good adventure, so probably it’s just my personality 😁
I think I will be taking your advice on visiting Tortugero. How many nights is good? 2 seems to be sufficient. Was this your first time in CR? they say you get hooked and return many many more times.
I believe 3 nights is the perfect amount, as on your final morning there you won’t be able to do anything as it’s a departure day, as well as on the day of your arrival you won’t be able to visit National Park. 2 nights is still good, but from my experience 3 nights is better.
Yes, it was my first time in CR, and I can definitely confirm that it’s not the last one 😁 even though I visited many places across the country I still want to come back one day to experience that ‘pura vida’ again.

If it’s the turtle night tour - I booked it directly with the Lodge I stayed at, and you don’t need any link for that as you can book it easily as it’s available everywhere you go ☺️ all the tour operators offer it

Great to know that you found this video helpful! As far as I know they sell like a 2 or 3 day tours which include accommodation, transfer and excursions, but I didn't go with this option as I knew I wanted to stay in Mawamba and I couldn't find a tour which included this lodge. For that reason I planed the entire trip by myself, I booked the transfer to Tortuguero with Exploradores Outdoors, and then I booked Mawamba lodge independently by myself, and I payed for all the excursions separately as well. As far as suggestions go, as I mentioned you will need some black outfit for the turtle watching tour, and I would definitely recommend you to take the Canoe tour to the National Park. Why canoe? Because you will be able to get deeper into the jungle and see more wildlife and the motor boats won't be able to do that☺

Also, on that day when you’re going to do the canoe tour in the National Park, after that (on the same day) you can do that trail I talked about in the video) the entrance to that trail is right in the end of Tortuguero town, just ask around and they will give your directions, because you will have to purchase the entrance to the National Park anyway and it is valid for 1 day only, so you can visit both places with the same ticket, just have it saved on your phone or printed 👍

@@yanaaspen ☺️ может и так, но я видела конкретно в этом отеле много попугаев ара, обезьян полно везде по всей Коста Рике (тут уж не переживайте, я думаю увидите их очень много раз), и даже несколько раз видела ленивцев возле отелей тоже, но это редкость. В основном ленивцев можно увидеть в национальных парках, там им спокойнее 😁😅

You didn't tell that Costa Rica is a very expensive country for food and drinks though. Yes, absolutely beautiful but very expensive.
