I went to high school with Marques, and after graduation he was awarded a full scholarship to Stetson University for violin performance. He's an amazingly talented musician and vocalist, but this music isn't precise or technical, it's emotional, and even though the violin might sound sloppy, it gives all of his music an honest, pure element that is very rare these days. That being said, his instrumental skills are completely on par with his vocal skills, but he doesn't always show them off.

Just my opinion but I love unique artists like Marques.
Sometimes the beauty is found in the flaws and an artist who has been shaved down until they have become a flawless diamond become bland and uninteresting. We are told they are appealing but really they have lost everything that was once PERFECT about THEM.

I kinda like the rawness. It adds his own personal feel to it. I like more because of that quirk. I dunno... it's like his voice is Bob Dylan's guitar, and his fiddle is Bob Dylan singing? Silly interpretation, but overall I think it works.

What are you talking about? We have loads of great English singers! Although, to be fair, most of them aren't well known enough to be on the radio.

WHy is he playing alone?... he is good, but i guess the music would sound more gently if he played more slowly while an acoustic guitar follow him with the heavy notes ! !
. Congratulations! Its a magnifique project!

@pengchon because he plays violin. and violin sounds different than a guitar, and thats what he wants

I think, putting it unmusically, the 'roughness' of the violin is intentional

Am I the only one to think that his violin playing is not quite on par with his singing?
Don't get me wrong, I think he has a really nice voice and a lot of soul... and it's not because it's a violin... I like the combination, but it seems to me that his violin skills are striving to catch up with his voice skills... I think he could benefit more if he focused solely on his singing and could have someone else playing the instruments...

@murimbaaa mmm good point. that would be ideal cause then he would sound like everyone else instead of being original. Much more acceptable. Go back to Justin Bieber yah dink....................

Honestly I don't like the gaussian filter that mahogany puts on all their videos I find it super distracting, I love Marques but i'd appreciate it so much more if that filter that wasn't so distracting
