My personal theory about why the surface is harder is because of Mel’s underworld curse holding her back- she does say that she cannot fully dispel it, merely delay it. Perhaps the enemies aren’t hitting any harder or aren’t stronger at all, it’s just that Mel is weaker and gets damaged more easily on the surface. Chronos might still be objectively the strongest threat in the game but mel is fighting him in a place she isn’t weakened in.
That's a great explanation lore wise but I feel this is more gameplay focused, Olympus just straight up has stronger and more unpredictable enemies
Then again that might come down to us playing against the Underworld for months before the Olympic update dropped so we're just used to them
From a narrative perspective, the Surface being harder makes perfect sense because Chronos is directing his forces towards Olympus, and thus you have to bear the full brunt of his army while making your approach to Olympus’s peak. In return, the gods give you more boons, which is also why on the Surface it’s much easier to get stronger earlier on.
As for Prometheus being harder than Chronos, I think that’s simply because we haven’t faced Chronos at his full power. He’s holding something back because he knows we can’t actually beat him yet.
I think if they added some more dialogue about the surface being uncomfortable for Mel even with the incantation and making it harder to do everything and harder to fight they could "explain" story wise how its harder without it having to be (story wise) that enemies are just stronger, that plus Mel *specifically* trained to get to and kill chronos
Surface is definitely harder than underworld. I never wanted to take Hephy, but now I feel like he is a must for surface runs. Maybe he got a bit of a buff or possibly I was sleeping on him, but his armor melting boon is nice for Olympus and he gives a lot of safety. I'm still not keen on his strikes, though.
If you take a heroic attack, pom it 3 times, get grand caldera of decent rarity and hestia duo boon you can achieve DPS comparable to a single epic attack boon of an optimal god for the aspect
Heph's the support god. Throw it on your off-damage dealer and you get a free burst of damage every 10 seconds. Plus the shield boons are fantastic.
@coldfanta4963 I had the Heph attack on the special, when using the black coat, and I got the hammer that fires off your specials when attacking and it was 🤌

0:18 just too funny
Poor Americans don't know about the culinary joys of roast potatoes and gravy
It makes perfect sense for the surface to be harder both from an Early Access perspective if they're going to expand it and from a story perspective. The Surface is a place where the gods that reside in it are working independently of Chronos and game progression seems like it expects you to do the underworld before the surface
Surface isn't harder, until you reach the end of Thessaly. I've lost so many runs to Eris pre-Olympus patch it's infuriating. Now that she's nerfed, it's Prometheus who's clowning on me. I think it may be intentional to make the end of the surface feel like a final boss. I love the non-linear level design though, it keeps things fresh.
surface is harder on all stages if u compare them to the corresponding underworld biome in the order. ephyra alone is even harder than oceanus (mostly coz of miniboss and polyphemus). some might even argue that charybdis is already comparable to cerb
@@lestervalentin5418 i think surface is easier for biome 1 and biome 2 but biome 2 can spawn biome 3 enemies. the whole reason why surface is harder is because of 3rd biome enemies are hardest enemies in the game. The PVE fight rooms are most insane enemies currently in the game. it is to the point that i just run fig leaf on 3rd biome because boss is a pretty easy fight. it has one mechanic which memory game but you can cheese it by just writing numbers on paper or opening like notepad and pausing the game. i think 3rd set of enmies is hard because extremely busted power-ups that can be acquired such as Medea's infinity magic boon, Igarus(?) has boons that like gain +20 power for priming. Athena has her dash deflect. Dio has this boon where if u you an item, you get 100 power which is absurd amount of raw damage for some attacks and than there is just way more odds to get busted boon combos in surface because you get more gods boon on average so synergy is more likely to occur while under-world, your pretty under-powered and the power-spikes you get are trip trip. they're like more spread out and you never feel like your ever strong from boon synergy. it is usually 1 or 2 core boon that carry run in underworld and a lot of the time, it's end of 3rd biome or final biome if you ever feel strong.
I wish we could see Artemis 2 times like Hermes, even if she isn't a "full boon giving God" anymore, I just want all the crit sources 😭
If only you could control the Rock keepsake from Echo better...
what is the thanksgiving shake lmfao
Always appreciate hearing Death’s Door soundtrack on your stream
So after the tierlist i did go back to check up on artemis to just reevaulate it (because it had been a while, even with pan i just don't enjoy daggers) and while it is just as strong as I remember, I'd forgotten how bad the gamefeel of the omega attack is, because it doesn't lock on to enemies properly and you move slower as you're charging it and you can't quick tap release it and have to hold it a bit, and it is one of those omegas where the attack comes out and then omega attack starts charging (like mel staff, unlike axe) which wastes one of the limited crit strikes you get when you parry; if SGG just fixes the feel of the omega attack then it'd be great but as it is half of artemis's central gimmick just doesn't work well (parry is great i at least really like parry)
i completely agree. it feels like aspect that is center around being "Spellblade" like Heph blasts but Heph blasts don't crit so it is like irrelevant. the remote synergy it has is Geyser Spout from Poseidon. Like in theory, if you run Geyer spout+Appolo's legendary, you can Omega attack ->Cast->Omega attack and slow burn your crit charges but it is just not rewarding. You can't really do anything special on this dagger compare to what you would do on other two daggers. It is shame because dagger is cool weapon. Being a ninja that assassinates mobs is cool but in this game, it's not really a thing. Maybe they'll add new gods to make this weapon useful or they should consider reworking aspect so that there is reason to select it.
Fun run idea. Triple Charon axe omega special. I just had giga cleaver and Apollo legendary, and 3 omega specials popped off. They previously didn't combine, but something must have changed in a recent patch.
There is still one generation of gods above the Titans in Greek Mythology, Uranus and Gaia, the Sky, and Earth which created the Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Hecatoncheires. In theory, the story of Hades 2 could link back to those two primordial deities regarding the final conflict mentioned in the Olympus patch notes.
I think Chaos also (at least in Hades lore, I can't remember actual Greek mythology for them), and they have a huge role in the story events, clearly, or will
@@nyxicide Chaos is above even Gaia and Nyx (those two being of the same generation). There basically isn't much of anything about Chaos in Greek myth, it's literally just a starting point for the whole cosmology.
Aspect of Artemis is one of my favorites _because_ of the free shield. Never try to build anything around it and it always turns out great
I like big crits and I cannot lie
You other brothers can't deny
I love a heroic level 4 born gain that doesn't get used once! 😅
I don't normally feel the need to comment on things like this but gravy on mashed potatoes is literally the best way to eat mashed potatoes 😊
I think the surface is slightly harder mainly bc it feels like tou dont get as many boons. You feel a little underpowered in comparison
Do you think when the full release comes to "defeat Chronos" they will make you go to Olympus, fight Prometheus, then another area to then fight a different powered Chronos, and then if you defeat him on Olympus you get sent down into the underworld where you get all/half your boons wiped and you need to do an underworld run (but whatever keepsakes/DD you used on the surface you cant use again) and then you need to beat Chronos in the Underworld as a finale 'big run'?
This aspect needs a serious rework.
Also yes, the surface is harder, but I don't know how much of that is really intended, since it's early acces and was just introduced.
What brand of monster doesn’t think that gravy goes on turkey?
never played this game should i get it on my steam deck?
Yknow me always gotta be third or first never second
Heyyy, I think the way this aspect is supposed to be played is you should try to always land omega attacks instead of normal attacks after parrying. at least that's how I play this aspect and this is by far the safest aspect for me cause of that. It's also the aspect I killed both Chronos and Prometheus the first time (and Prometheus in the very first try too) Soo that might be the reason you're not having fun playing this aspect I think?
