I don't blame you for getting the hotel. One of the reasons for tent camping is saving money. Great music as usual. Safe travels and enjoy the journey.
I hear you on the crosswind, I ride a heavier bike, but, I can tell you all of the plains states and provinces give you a reinforced understanding that earth is constantly rotating. I does drain your strength. Fun ride thanks for bringing me along.

your approach to "getting out and doing the thing" and the content and sincerity of your videos making your channel fun and inspiring to watch. Thanks. Peace.
Fun Fact about crossing Texas: The ride from the western edge, El Paso to Houston, which is still ~1.5 hours from the eastern border of Texas, is roughly the same as riding from Houston to Atlanta, Georgia.
Thanks for the video, gave me a break from editing my own motorcycle video. My wife is the audio book queen, she’s a murder mystery gal, and I’m still alive. Sorry to hear about the mishap of your gear. Looking forward to next weeks instalment
Lot's of cool memories between this and the previous video from when I grew up in Texas. I just finished "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I didn't listen to the audio book but I would have on a trip or commute.
Looks like some pretty land to go across. That wind sure is no joke! I'm glad you skipped the $63 mud pit. As always, so glad to catch your Friday night video. 😁

Thank you for putting out some great content. You sure looked tired; just like someone that’s been out in the fresh air all day. Hope you got some good rest and sorry to hear of you loosing stuff off the bike. I usually don’t loose stuff except for one thing. Or more like lots of the same thing. Sorry TX was so bad to you. I live in Fair Oaks Ranch which is just north of San Antonio. The winds were stupid high from late February through April. I am not sure what the heck was going on. The three twisted sisters is a great ride. Pedernales state park is beautiful and it is too bad you did not get to check out the river and the rocks that are there. Amanda… sometimes technology weighs you down… simplify. Adapt, chill, and let the road and adventure unfold. In the wise words of some unknown: “It could be worse, it could be raining!” Love your spirit and adventures.
I can't believe you put the Baytown bridge (really named the Fred Hartman Bridge) in your video. If it weren't for the horendoius cross winds over that dang thing it would be a much more pleasant ride over it. In a car it is sometimes difficult to stay in a lane. For a motorcycle it can be quite dangerous due to the gusting. I have lived in Texas for quite awhile now and haven't found any fun roads around Baytown. I guess I'll have to go find them elsewhere. For me the best case is anywhere I can ride in a giant loop in one day. Home for dinner.
Wow TX! I've only driven across TX once, but cut across the panhandle, so defiantly didn't get "the full experience." 2016 wasn't such a bad year. 😉 But I'm sure once you've had a SAT communicator you kinda feel naked without it. I've been on a podcast kick lately and haven't been brining too many books along for the ride. I'll have to add the ones mentioned to the list. Ride safe!
Wow they can stick it for 63 bucks, last time I was rolling through Johnson city I located BLM land and old forest service roads, little south of Johnson, we camp everywhere we go but I have my limits as to what we pay or not, to many places to lay down, it’s just a tent for Pete sake, we share a spot with every KOA, 15 bucks a head, lots cheaper ways, but enjoy your videos

Hard to understand your spoken audio with the helmet facesheild closed. And you are right! $63.00 For that camp site is ridiculous. Good call!! Love yours videos! Thanks, Amanda.

Amanda 🙈 - there you go again! (Losing stuff off your bike). You’ve proven electronics don’t bounce well on the highway, hats can fly, no need to do it again! 😂 - (Rokstraps please sponsor this girl!!)
Don't blame you on the over priced tent spot. That was ridiculous 😒 The last book I read was " Of Mice and Men " and that was about 50 years ago. So, I guess you've probably figured out that I don't like to read much ! 😬 It is a great book however ! Stay safe young lady,,,,, sorry about your mishap of losing your stuff to the TX winds and that mean old truck !!
There should be a list for a motorcycle assist group. I was thinking that it would be nice to have some people that could be contacted around the country to offer a free place to camp and or call for help if needed. You could actually buy a membership really cheap like 20 bucks a year. This would protect providers with some since of security. Lets talk about it.
Nice video. Glad you are still out traveling. I need to find me some short trips to go on to build up. Would like to do a solo trip from east Texas to Key West in the fall. What brand of tent are you using?
Have you read Jupiter's Travels? It's by Ted Simon about his round the world trip on a 500cc Triumph Tiger. No Internet, no GPS. Audio book is on Audible. Don't know if you can get it elsewhere.
I'm reading The Ghosts of Malta by LawDog - It is a short story compiliation centered on the Island of Malta. It has stories that run the gamut of historical fiction to urban fantasy.
$63USD is like almost $90AUD. Yikes. Do you listen to your audiobooks whilst riding, or just when camped? Really enjoy watching your trips and resilience with things that happen along the way in-between the fabulous views. I watch a number of channels, and like them, but can forget to hit the button. So I appreciate the reminder to 'like' that you always put in the end.
It could be worse - when I rode across TX (panhandle), it was 26 degrees. Temp stayed at about 26 all the way to Kingman. Snowed in Santa Rosa, NM - I had to spend the night in a motel to wait for the road to clear. (The joys of riding cross country in December). If I recall - I wore a thermal T-neck, wool shirt, Girbings heated jacket, fleece vest (to hold the jacket snug for extra warmth), motorcycle jacket, and a Columbia GoreTex shell (mostly to block the wind). I remember taping a microfiber towel to the chin bar and tucking it into my jacket to keep the cold air from coming in under the helmet. Good times 😊 Without the heated gloves & jacket - it would have been downright uncomfortable. I did feel (and look) a bit like the Michelin man.
WOW! I've always thought of Sanderson as 'No Country for Old Men' but apparently it ain't much for young women either.... Just keep going... just keep going... I gripe about paying more than $15 for a camp site if it doesn't have water. Wow, inflation is going nuts. I hit the road in a few weeks. 50 MPG on the motorcycle has always been attractive, but with gas prices, even that is making me have second thoughts...
I am answering a different related question. I have never tried audio books when riding. I have done audio books on multi day drives. I found at times my attention was drawn into the story too much. Since then I am very careful with them. I switch to music once in a while.
Quite the adventure this was. If you were posting these along the way I would be concerned, but I know you made it back so... I don't like audio books, I like music or just the sound of wind when I'm riding.
If you get a chance take a look at Dunlop’s trailmax mission tire. They are amazing and last a long time. They look similar to the Shinko but are far superior.
I don't know if you've ever tried to find a tire in your size while riding across the country without having to pre order it, but let me just tell you from my perspective I'm just grateful when they have something that's not a racing slick ok.
@@AstheMagpieFlies Yes I know what that’s about as I help travelers like yourself every week as I am in the industry. The reason I mentioned the trail max missions is they are superior in every way. My research shows that running the less expensive option and leaving an a trip on them has most riders running 2 to 3 sets to one set of a premium brand. This doesn’t even address the durability when Off-roading.
@@AstheMagpieFlies might not make RMR. health is improving but running out of time off from work, To give you an idea of this last hospital trip, I am type 2. I think after the surgery end of last week I should eat better and change my nickname to the bad guy from Mad Max. Gonna grab me aa permanent marker and write "The Toe Cutter" on me left biker boot. lol
Do take care rigging your gear. The guy I bought my f800gs from said “full disclosure, I dropped this at 70 mph.” Turns out his duffel slipped off and wedged in the rear wheel. He woke up in the hospital 3 days later saying “why am I here?” But not to worry, the bike is fine 😆
I wouldn't have paid $6.30 for that tent site let alone $63.00 you made a good choice, Good luck wit the new tire
Perfectly said.
Good plan getting the room that camp site wasn't worth the money
"I don't know where I'm going. That's okay" Love that line. Ride safe!
That scene with the camera facing you with a big smile on your face says it all! Way to be resilient and carry on! Great work Amanda!
Cheers!
I don't blame you for getting the hotel. One of the reasons for tent camping is saving money. Great music as usual. Safe travels and enjoy the journey.

One of the things that I admire the most about you is that you are such a positive person. Ride safe my friend .
I recently finished the Count of Monte Cristo. And have picked up listening the Guild of the Cowry Catchers.

I am answering a different related question. I have never tried audio books when riding. I have done audio books on multi day drives. I found at times my attention was drawn into the story too much. Since then I am very careful with them. I switch to music once in a while.
$63 for that site is absolute robbery!
I think I would save up and always stop in hotel
Quite the adventure this was. If you were posting these along the way I would be concerned, but I know you made it back so... I don't like audio books, I like music or just the sound of wind when I'm riding.
Still Just a Geek by Wil Wheaton
$63???!!?!? No WAY would I pay that for THAT “tent site”
👍🏾
Night night
grrrrrr life hates me. Just got home from a week in the hospital.
Oh no! Sending you healing vibes!
@@AstheMagpieFlies might not make RMR. health is improving but running out of time off from work, To give you an idea of this last hospital trip, I am type 2. I think after the surgery end of last week I should eat better and change my nickname to the bad guy from Mad Max. Gonna grab me aa permanent marker and write "The Toe Cutter" on me left biker boot. lol
Don’t blame you one bit for leaving that overpriced tent site.
No way I’d pay that much for a garbage campsite. You did the right thing.
What book am I reading? The best book, the Holy Bible.
I setup a tent at a rest stop on the NY state through way because fog made it suicidal to be on the road
🤔
Not reading anything currently :).
You are not awful but that campsite in Pedernales sure was. Geez.. That had to have been a mistake. Sleep well.
