Hate to be a wet towel but most of the floating metal is aluminum...not iron/steel I.e. ferrous. The best dipstick is a thermometer dipstick. The magnet is not all that useful.

My oil filter has a magnet as does the drain plug installed by HD,
magnetic thermometer dipstick would be nice combo.
