I STILL have my Original Gold Pan I bought my freshmen year of High School in my office, Futaba Magnum Jr, Novak Rooster, Reedy Motor....lol Fires up at the flick of a switch. 89 was a good year....Old guy gone. AWESOME VIDEO
I restored my childhood Kyosho Raider a year ago. Yes, it’s not an RC 10 which I would love to have but my car holds a ton of sentimental value to me. I raced it in the vintage event at USTE this year and had a blast! I was worried but it all worked out. So yeah, take it out and let it rip! Thanks for the video!
Very cool! RC10 Team Car was my first rc when I was a kid. It was a lot of fun. I even had a few different bodies. I still have it in a drawer in the garage.
I have built and/or restored several Gold pans. Both originals and the re releases. I currently have a Worlds car and I ran them all. That is what they are for.
Yes! Vintage stuff is awesome, we just started a vintage class at our local track and I've been running the kyosho Ultima rerelease which has been awesome
Ain't that the truth, humph! I took a break from racing truggy about the time they went to those ridiculous cab forward, limo-length bodies 🤦♂️ Still, don't like them but can't help it when the racing bug bites.
Dream car back in the day! Lucky you! After my Grasshopper, I ended up getting a very early Traxxas buggy. I was 12, it was very late ‘80s. Gee the batteries were terrible back then.
I’ve got 2 of these that I did the same thing with. I built one as period correct as I could. The other is from all the spare parts I collected over the years. The second one was built from a smashed up and re-shaped original chassis. That’s the one that I run. There are spare parts available, but they get more expensive every day. Thankfully there are people reproducing them through 3D printing.
The most iconic buggy of all time for me! I am a big Tamiya guy but this is the one car I think defines the golden era of buggies. I would have to take it out and run it at least once! I have never had one nor driven one so there is not way I could just set it on the shelf, I'd have to put at least one battery pack through it!
I raced an rc10 in the late 80”s. Total blast! I know that car inside and out. Those were good times with a lot of club races in small towns. You’d be amazed at all the stuff we did for advantage.
You should run that RC 10 Matt. My old cars are only shelf queens because I don't have time to run them right now. They were made to drive and become really expensive models when they sit.
Awesome it turned out great! I run my restored RC10 a couple of times a year, brings me back to driving mine back in the 80’s. When we camp at Warsaw I’ll often take it for a little beach run or something and have some fun. With the brushed can you’ll be fine, enjoy it!
I have a few vintage RC’s that I absolutely run, but in a very…particular way. I just putt them around the yard, small little jumps, take pictures of it and enjoy the fact that I’m running an old RC. I only run my vintage RC’s maybe once a month or less and that seems to work perfectly for me.
Drive it, but not with full anger. People still race these in Vintage events. I am in the process of restoring my Tamiya Falcon that was my pride and joy in middle school.
When I was a kid this was the first real RC car I got and I loved it. Can't remember what happened to it so when I saw one at a LHS a few years ago I snatched it up. It was dirty and grimy and I did a full resto on it which was rather relaxing. I don't have electrics in it, doubt I will ever run it and it's technically my only shelf queen. To be honest I think it could still race, though in a vintage series. It has the original six gear transmission which was finicky to say the least. Man when Associated introduced the Stealth Transmission that changed everything. Ah memories....
I bought the Team Car (1st release of the Stealth Tranny & Black Pan) it is currently in its box on a shelf. I plan to reassemble it and put it primarily on display and drive it occasionally.
Man she’s definitely one beautiful classic! I think it should be a shelf queen!👌😂👍you definitely don’t want to damage that one! Parts are definitely hard to come by! And expensive! By the way! I think I still have one of those early magazines where I remember seeing the ad on it!
Matt you put all that hard work into it maybe a little stroll can’t hurt but if your the least bit nervous, have a beverage then drive it , then shelf it. It’s only proper.
Great video and WOW! the whole nine yards on the decals by MCI. I would run it, but with others who have the same and run together... slowly and carefully though!
I remember seeing these for the first time back in the 80's. Wanted one really bad, but by the time I decided to get one, the JRX2 had come out, so I bought that. Still have it! I raced at a local track that had opened about that time. Didn't have a lot of racing success, but had a ton of fun! Also bought a Junior T after the trucks came out. And now my barn is full of RC stuff! Anyway, would I run them? Ummm.... depends on if someone started making parts for them. My JRX2 is the "white box' version, (yes I still have the box too) and would love to be able to get parts for a rebuild. Still have the Futaba Magnum Jr. in it I ran back in the day. Just needs a battery installed. So, meanwhile, if I decide to ever run it again, it will be very, carefully! LOL!
I have an RC10 Championship Edition before they had the stealth transmission. Been gathering parts here and there and it’s just about ready to go back together. I plan to run it around the yard once in a while. Definitely won’t get the bashing a new car gets. But I need to run it a couple times.
That RC10 is spot on!! Nice job Matt. One of my Best friends Dad had a pair of RC10's and took us to a track to race them WAY back in the day. Brings back some Great memories. I'm pretty sure my Friend still has them. Great Build, you Gotta at least to take it out for 1 Spin!!! Stay safe and bash on from Colorado!!!
First build when I was a kid in the 80's was the grasshopper then I built a frog and hornet and always wanted a rc10 but got a Cox turbo scorpion instead. Still wish I got the rc10. Years later I got a rc10 GT and still have it. It's probably 30 years old now.
Nice results Matt. Definitely run it…gently. Would love to see that. Also, does this mean we are going to see a new Blazer Mud Truck episode, maybe before 2024?
We got an old Tamiya buggy, not as old as this, and every time we take it out something breaks. Often takes 2 months or more hunting down parts. Was the first car the daughter built so she doesn’t want to scavenge parts from it so it’s turned into a bit of a shelf Queen. Now her track car is an ECX Torment and her crawler is a gatekeeper we’re working on. Already have a TF2 SWB and a TLR22 5.0 we will be building next.
@@scalebuildersguild thanks for keeping us entertained and giving us ideas on what to do next! Just knocked out a rattle can paint job that would match that new coffee mug! Could send you a PM if you’d want to see it.
That car was pretty tough if memory serves with the exception of the the ball cups those things were so thin even back then that they were brittle I don't know if I'd run that or not. A vaguely remember racing the car back in the late 80s
Looks great! I was curious if you'd ever revisit this one :D I have an RC10 to rebuild also and I'm facing the same question of do I restore to run or to decorate my hobby space...LOL I'm inclined to run it on grass and wood chips w/ no significant jumps.
Vintage stuff is Really cool. I've recently bought a Rc10T team truck in pretty good shape and I've bought both re re of the rc10. The classic is built and the team car is still in the box with some option parts. I know that some don't like the re re stuff but personally i don't mind and will certainly buy other interesting models. Wish associated would make parts available and give an affordable option for repair without loosing an arm and a leg buying used parts. would be cool to have some shelf queen and a beater that you can repair easily and for cheap. Good to know for the MCI Sticker sheet; I have some idea of body i want to do with team blue groove body. Thanks for the video!
It's good to see it finally finished!!! Dude, we still race those, they're tough. If you're not driving it like a maniac, you'll be hard-pressed to break it; we even run BL in them, but usually only like a 17.5 or so. If you do break something, hit me up on messenger, I've got TONS of parts for those. lol It still blows my mind you got pin fronts and the Goodyear OG rears for it! Those are some serious bank nowadays, and VERY hard to find. Well done! Great work on that build, I'm proud of you for it!!! I say you should come to race it at VONATS with us this year. ;) it's a riot racing the old stuff, and it's all cool people. :D
We ran/bashed these things hard and they were bulletproof, do I think you should run it? Hell Yeah! I know you’re just gonna track it or trail it and not flip it down the street in front of yer house like we did. That RC10 will still be here when when we’re all gone and yeah I still got mine and it wouldn’t take much to make it live again.
Matt. Would you be interested in an old Tamiya hotshot. I've had it for years. I'll never do anything with it. It looks to be complete. It has the manual, spare stickers and some other documents. I don't really want anything for it. I'll even throw in a couple ancient futaba radios. One twin stick and a side throttle unit lol
Unless it was pristine and undriven, I'd go drive it some... I wouldn't be sending it off any large jumps...but I'd drive it some every once in a while. You mentioned ReRe cars.... check out the Kyosho Legendary Series, amd the Optima Mid coming out soon.
Where did you get the tires from? I just got mine running after almost 20 years and it's a brushless setup now, runs great but I will use it sparingly for sure.
I liked the rc 10s, but I had a team losi jrx2 and was a losi fan so acted like I didn't like them but I did especially after I drove it. My jrx2 was more nimble and faster but I always liked the rc 10s.
maybe if there are no replacement parts there if something breaks I'll just put it on the shelf and when I'm tired or stressed I'll look at it and if I want to run maybe a little bit and slowly. I really wanted that when I was a kid

Damn I thought this was an abandoned series. Totally wasn't expecting to see this today lol Really cool to see the buggy finished but just looking at the slightly yellowed plastic on the front already makes me nervous of it being driven lol Edit: Also I didn't realise the Wheelnuts on the rear were Wingnuts. Don't know if this was standard for the time but that's a pretty cool feature without needing a Nut Driver or Wrench (unless you need to do the front).
@@scalebuildersguild Ah :( Yea it's definitely a cool feature and even if it's just on the shelf I think it adds some nice visual flair in an otherwise overlooked spot.
Team Associated RC10 cars are very durable. I do not think that you will break it. Also you mentioned that the shock caps are a different color. The re-release RC10 has a different gold color. I bet your shock caps are re-release version. How do I know this? I have an original RC10 A stamped and a re-release RC10 as well. Thoughts?
My boss just gave me his rc10 from ‘83 and I wanted to restore it like you did. Do you have any link’s where I can find some of the parts. Great video and looking forward to seeing it run…
I did a lot of digging around old stock in my local hobby shop, and also got a lot from loyal viewers. I suggest you try to find a donor car that you can steal parts from to make one really good one!
She's a race car. You have to take it to the track in Mississauga or at least the bmx track on lakeshore once before you clean and shelf her.No disrespectful bashing for this one.
I am with you as to do you use it or not. I am the 5th scale gas guy I have now my MCD and my FG's you can still get all the needed parts apart from body on my MCD as it is the Chevy Baja 1000 Trophy Truck and the rear wing I used and raced it off-road and in the Outlaw class on road so it has a lot of gravel rash, but my rarest one that not a lot of guys know of is my TRAXXAS Monster Gas buggy there are not a lot left and no spares even from the TRAXXAS heritage parts bin so never going to run it unless someone can sell me a whole one or spares all parts. I have a VENOM VMX 450 MotorX/Supermoto 1/4scale not been able to get the off-road knobblies but i have loads of on-road Supermoto tyres, bodies, alloy hop ups will swap body clear, green or blue for knobblies. I had forgotten you even had this did you not get a re-pop.
Love the old stuff. Makes you appreciate the new stuff.
Wow. Had that car. Man oh man.. the memories! Thanks Matt, for taking us back in time. I should dig out a few of my vintage and send them your way.

I would run it lol. I had one in 1988.
I'll be very gentle, but I agree. Thanks for watching!
Damn I thought this was an abandoned series. Totally wasn't expecting to see this today lol
Really cool to see the buggy finished but just looking at the slightly yellowed plastic on the front already makes me nervous of it being driven lol
Edit: Also I didn't realise the Wheelnuts on the rear were Wingnuts. Don't know if this was standard for the time but that's a pretty cool feature without needing a Nut Driver or Wrench (unless you need to do the front).
Those were mainly for decoration, they still provided the nuts in the box. Cool, right?
@@scalebuildersguild Ah :(
Yea it's definitely a cool feature and even if it's just on the shelf I think it adds some nice visual flair in an otherwise overlooked spot.
Thoughts?
You might be right! Thanks for the info.
A truly gorgeous, vintage build 👏🏻👏🏻
Have you considered UV bleaching the plastic wheels?
No, but now that I have a UV station, I'll give it a try. Thanks!
@@scalebuildersguild thank you for the info. It’s ARTR, really just needs all the pins and metal parts do to rust and a good cleaning.
She's a race car. You have to take it to the track in Mississauga or at least the bmx track on lakeshore once before you clean and shelf her.No disrespectful bashing for this one.
There's a track in Mississauga? Tell me more!
Did this ever get run? Is it "run" did it ever get ran? Idk which sounds better? Would love to see an update on this.
I never runned it, ranned it or took it out for a run 😂. The parts are very fragile, so I'm afraid to!
My first 'real' race car! Sooooo many memories.................... 😢 (excuse me, I have something in my eye)
Were you chopping onions? 😭 😂
@@scalebuildersguild Well, now that you mention it............. 😉
It might get drove in the living room then put into a garage diorama
Please don’t run it where you ran the omg63 🤭 awesome video almost forgot about this series!
😂
I wouldn't think twice about running that. I don't believe in shelf queens.
Rear arm mounts are backwards.
Thanks! Built it without a manual, so there’s bound to be mistakes.
