ARW Anderson Rabin & Wakeman Yes Lift Me Up / And You and I Live in Concert

  • Louis Molino III drum solo is followed by ARW performance of Lift Me Up (02:35) (from Yes 1991 Union album) and And You And I (10:00) (from Close To The Edge 1972). Jon Anderson nails the vocals like the original recording. Rick Wakeman's Mellotron string lines are majestically beautiful.
    Former Yes band members Jon Anderson, guitarist Trevor Rabin and keyboardist Rick Wakeman haven't played together since the Yes Union Tour in 1991. Twenty five years later, ARW are touring North America. ARW was live in concert for An Evening Of Yes Music And More at the Orpheum Theater, Los Angeles, CA on November 22, 2016 backed up by Lee Pomeroy of Jeff Lynne's ELO on bass guitar and Louis Molino III on drums.

    So awesome to see them together and sounding great, and so darn recently, just over a month ago. They look healthy and happy and the performance was just wonderful. I missed them on this tour but am making an effort not to miss it the second time around if it happens (crossing fingers, would also *love* to hear new material from *this* combo). Lee Pomeroy is clearly the go to bass player in rock circles. He toured with Steve Hackett's band when Nick Beggs wasn't.available. I think he was also with Rick in the English Rock Ensemble at Hampton Court Six Wives gig. He is also an accomplished sessions and big band player. He was in Diamond Jubilee backing band. I wonder there are so many retards liking your stupid comment...According to you the real Yes band is supposed to have two drummers? As long as there is a key founding member (Anderson), and two other very important members such as Rabin and Wakeman, it perfectly legitimate by any means. Other band with only relevant member (Howe, despite his sloppy performances...) by now, has much less credibility to carry the flag of Yes.

    • @PutItAway101
      @PutItAway101 7 років тому +1

      Štěpán Romášek "Two drummers"? What on earth are you talking about? Please learn what the word "or" means. I said "Bruford or White". Which part of that is too complicated for you? Both have earned their place as real Yes drummers. Either is fine with me. What is not fine, is having neither of them. Idiot.

    Saw ARW in Salt Lake City and they were great. You won't get some of these songs with the current Howe line up of YES. I have never seen an official YES concert, but I consider ARW a YES concert. Rabin wrote all their hits in the 80's including their biggest hit ever "Owner of a Lonely Heart" so if this line up isn't a version of YES then I don't know what is.

    • @neilouellette3004
      @neilouellette3004 7 років тому +2

      I have seen Yes on tour many times Ryan with all the different members since the 1970'S. Now with the 2 factions of Yes music out there now, like you mentioned, ARW is Yes. Trevor Rabin is way better live than Howe. All the times I've seen Trevor with Yes, he interacts with the audience-fans. Steve Howe who is great, has always been like a dead fish on stage. ARW is YES. Also Steve Howes Yes, has no original members in the band since the great Chris Squire died. Not even Steve Howe is a "Original" member. But they carry the official YES name which isn't right. ARW is YES. You saw YES. By the way, when YES came out with 90125 and toured in 1984 with Rabin in the line up, they were awesome. Check out those video's and the 1991 Union Tour video's with Howe, Rabin and every member that played in YES up till then of 1991.

    • @Parableman
      @Parableman 7 років тому +1

      You say this as a comment on a video where Rabin doesn't even bother to try to do Howe's intro to And You and I, because he knows he can't. They're both good at different things, and they both know it. Howe won't play Rabin's 80s style guitar solos, because he knows he can't do that style. Rabin won't do some of the idiosyncratic things Howe does, because he knows he can't. He refuses to bend notes, use a whammy bar, etc. He's much more about precision, and Rabin is more about speed and flashiness. I much prefer Howe's style of the two, especially on Howe's original material, but I can respect them both.
      As for Howe's focus on the music and Rabin's on jumping around in a way that distracts from the music, well, you can enjoy something that I think detracts, but that's your preference. Howe seems much more professional to me and more concerned about quality. I want to see the band play the music, not dance around in silly ways and make faces at the audience.
      And the current Yes lineup sounds much more like Yes than this group. Sherwood can do Squire. I didn't like what he added on guitar on the Open Your Eyes tour, but his bass work on the current tour is excellent and sounds like Squire, who was his mentor for decades. Pomeroy is good, but he doesn't do Squire as well. And Alan White is no Bruford, but he does a better job than this drummer, I think. The only Yes material Wakeman can't do is Moraz's stuff, but Downes can play that and Wakeman's material. And the current singer of Yes basically is just a younger Jon Anderson with more energy. I think of ABWH and the current Yes as genuine Yes lineups, but this seems like more of half a Yes lineup. The other members just don't have the Yes feel like the newer members of the current Yes group.

      +Jeremy Pierce I have seen yes in many incarnations since the tormato tour in the fall of '78 which was the bands absolute peak live
      other than the fact that bruford drummed circle's around white in '72 and since as evolved
      10fold where as Alan white is a shell of his former self, that is 1 of the main problems with the current yes lineup. at any rate howe is the sole reason anyone should even bother to c the current yes. I will admit
      that Sherwood has nailed Chris's tone even though I have not seen yes w/out Chris but I have seen the yes medley by circa in 2009 and they/he kicked the f'n shit out of the current yes lineup as well. as far as my main reason 4 commenting howe is 1 of my all time favorite gtr players. BUT Trevor Rabin succeeds far better at playing classic yes gtr parts than Howe does OOALH and as far as saying Wakeman can't play Moraz's parts what r u smoking? granted Geoff also runs circles around Tony Kaye (too bad the Eddie Jobs on thing fell through on the 90125 tour (check out U.K live ).)
      All in all any yes is still 100 times better than the shit bands r putting out 2day so let's just be grateful and thankful that we now have twice the opportunity 2 hear yes music live

      Sorry but for my money the best and classic Yes lineup was Anderson, Howe, Squire, Wakeman and Bruford. Arguably the most talented group of musicians to ever play and compose together. To bad they only did 2 albums together While I appreciate Rabin's technical prowess he's nowhere near the guitarist that Howe is or was. I believe Howe received Guitar Player Mag Guitarist of The Year Award 5 times. (I believe 5 is the most they'll allow) Furthermore Howe mastered so many different instruments including pedal steel, mandolin and banjo. Finally Howe is a lock to be in the top 15 rock guitarists of all time. Rabin would be lucky to be in the top 40.

    Can't wait for the release of this on DVD. As to the endless quarreling about whether this is really YES or just MAYBE, not featuring Howe and all that, well, I just skip that sort of comment since it's a distraction from the sheer enjoyment this music gives me.

    Had seen ARW a few days after their first US tour started...Lou and Trevor were a little rusty and gluey, but by this time it looked like they had all the bugs worked out. The second tour, they were a finely tuned machine. Side note, folks - Lou played on Rabin's Can't Look Away album in '89.

    The ONLY thing missing on " And You and I" was Howe's use of the Slide Hawaiian Guitar he uses, but Rabin did an admirable job. And Anderson sounds like he did from 40 years ago! Just amazing!! And LouisMolino III on drums... what a cross between Bruford and White! Great addition!!..

    Yes with Rabin is a totally different beast to Yes without. Look at the interplay and communication between the band members here and on all the ARW stuff. It's the same on the clips from the Talk tour. Squier clearly loved playing with him too.

    Thanks for the upload, but the major complaint would be keeping the camera on Rick Wakeman with his eyes closed, while Trevor Rabin is playing a fantastic solo on And You And I, and then only panning back when Jon Anderson starts singing again.
    Very obvious who the favourites are, but damn. You could have shown Rabin playing a solo, rather than show us Wakeman didn't get enough sleep the night before.

    • @babarishka
      @babarishka 7 років тому +1

      Steve is definitely not the guitarist he used to be. As for his getting old, we all get old - unless we die young. Getting old is not a sin. As for his being a dick, I don't know the guy so I can't say that he is for sure. However, I do greatly resent Yes for dumping Jon Anderson by the wayside when he got sick. You and I don't know the inside scoop re: Yes and Anderson, but it certainly appears to me that the rest of Yes were complete dicks to Anderson. Regardless of the above, Howe will always be my favorite guitarist and rightly deserves a place as one of the great guitarists of all time.
