- (2023) Cross County Mall is a struggling mall in the flatlands of Illinois. However, it has a more unique owner whom seems content with continuing operations as... well, a mall.

I come here very often! Today I was in the mall as they had an annual boat show! That’s how this place is staying open. Rural King owning and having a store in the mall allows them to have shows, expos throughout the year. From this footage, only a few things have changed. Bath and body works is gone but they moved/ expanded the shoe department into an outside accessible area that is also accessible through the mall as well. Maurices is also probably leaving soon too as they are relocating too.
In my opinion, the place is still holding its own but I think it’s only a matter of time where most of the stores start filtering out and it becomes an event venue only and some offices.

I have hope for this mall. Not a high maintenance building whatsoever, but also cozy atmosphere. Cute!
That mall looks pleasant and enjoyable. It's not the most unique mall ever, but it gets the job done. However with Joann's problems the mall might soon have another larger vacant space. Nice video on a nice mall.

I like this mall. It serves a smaller rural community and I think as long as Rural King owns it and the economy doesn’t get any worse there this mall will be okay. This is one of the rare instances where a decent sized grocery store as an additional anchor and a hardware store in the mall might increase foot traffic in the mall. There’s a lot of things you can do with a rural mall that you can’t with a suburban or urban mall. For instance, that expo Doomie saw could become like a regular thing on weekends where locals can sell their wares. I can tell you what might really improve foot traffic is if this mall added a farmers market as an anchor. Because this mall is a rural mall it’s probably easy to get to and I don’t imagine crime is too much of an issue. It’s got some things going for it and potential if Rural King makes the effort.

At the time of filming looks like a nice little mall. I know you've toured some Georgia Malls and release videos after you have filmed. Town Center Mall in Kennesaw/Marietta Georgia looks like it has closed with an unpaid power bill. Belk announced they were leaving and a week later lights out. Marietta Daily Journal has an article on Belk. Sad times but not unexpected, spent plenty of time hanging out, and in the arcades. The biggest event held at the mall currently is Caffiene and Octane.

This mall largely feels like a strip mall that has a small interior portion. Honestly, I thought it's been kept up as well as it could possibly be as a small rural mall. Not surprised a food court attempt failed- it just seems too small for one to work. I expect the interior to wind up totally empty someday and for this to go fully strip mall. Or the interior gets repurposed into offices.

Yes, actually I’ve always been to one in my life I don’t live near one, but I have seen one and they’re just like tractor supply
Yes, though my local Rural King has a lot of things TSC doesn't have, like more clothing, snacks/food, baby animals like chicks and bunnies, and free popcorn

I do fear noone will buy Joann, before they need to find a buyer by March for their new bankruptcy filing. I actually did visit this mall in December, and I really liked Cross County a lot! I hope it hangs on, but we will see.....
