Steering wheel airbag removal to fix air bag light on a peugeot 406. Same unit on many other cars.

- I had a steering wheel air bag fault, module 1, on my peugeot 406. This is about how I fixed it. This video shows how I removed steering wheel, the air bag and the dav comm 2000 unit. I will show you how to test the circuits and clock spring. In a later video I will show how I took apart the comm 2000 unit to repair a floppy indicator switch. It was the same brown plug on my 2003 1.4 hdi 307! Thanks so much! I had been tucked up, haven't long bought the car. Previous owners had removed 3 bulbs form the hud center display. Replaced them to find a abs warning light and tywo airbag warning lights!
Cleared the abs by replacing the discs on the back and cleaning up the area around the sensors, adding a washer behind the bolt to clos up the gap between the sensor and what its sensing. 1 light down.. now the airbag lights, I removed and directly soldered the connectors under both front seats.. no good. then found this video, all I did was remove the plastic covers checked the brown and blue plugs out, cleaned things up and tightened them like you did at the end... presto both warnings gone!
Also had a prob with loss of power.. 3 cans of egr cleaner into the turbo later... pooof back to full power! I love the internet! keep sharing guys, help each other out :)

I didnt have an issue with the spring in the plunger myself. But a few folks have commented that the plunger went one way and the spring went the other. I removed it in a cardboard box to reduce the chances of things like that happening. I see some guys in china (1 month delivery) are selling them for £1 and that includes the spring.Good luck.

Next request: the coolant level warning light comes on intermittently even though the fluid level is fine. Could you please do a video on how to change the switch as I can't see how to remove it? Perhaps it need a complete unit, not just the switch. Thanks.

Great video & description. When you tested the circuits with your 3.3 ohm fused wire, did you disconnect the battery and unplug each of the connectors then connect the battery and then test for each individual connector or keep the battery connected at all times whilst you unplugged each of the connectors and tested? My comms 200 the headlight switch is not working correctly, 9 times out of 10 they will not turn on. Is it possible to swap the indicator stalk from one unit to another? The second hand unit I got from a scrap yard is showing an Airbag fault and will not allow the car to start when fitted. I was also thinking could I swap the two circuit boards? Would that fix the problem?

I have same steering wheel on my 406 and after watching this video ive ripped my steering wheel apart trying to find these clips only to find that my airbag is screwed in place so has no clips!

Thanks, replaced my comm2000 on Partner, but can rpt seem to relocate the airbag unit properly, horn just goes off unexpectedly when driving... don't understand what I did wrong. ..
I cleaned my car yesterday because had an mot today but got in it and airbag light was on. I think I must of moved a wire, anyway plugged diagnostic in and it says open circuit. So I was panicking because of the mot. Luckily the light went off when guy moved the seat back but now it's back on so I was unlucky that it came on but lucky it went off before the mot. So tomorrow I'll have to check all the wiring under the seat

i Changed THE comms unit on my 2004 PEUGEOT 307 , but the result is the same in terms of what i wanted to get fixed . When i turn to one of the sides ( i cannot remember which one , when the turn signal supposed to come back to its neutral position ( when you finish the turn ) , it goes over to the other side . it does that a lot . i thought replacing IT TO A comms unit from a newer model will solve the issue , but it didn't . do i need any sort off alignment so it would not happen , or what exactly cause this ?
I just bought a 2004 Peugeot 406 station-wagon. The horn does not work but the fuses look ok. If I just sand those contacts like you showed, do you think it will work again? Or do you have any helpful tips?
I would check the horn its self first. Disconnect the horn and supply it with 12v see if the horn sounds. Due to the location it can get a lot of corrosion. If it does not sound then the issue is either the steering wheel contacts, fuse or wiring. I have got car envy. I loved my 406 but was persuaded to get a newer 508SW.
When you dismount all these cable connections (specially for the air bag and the Comm2000) , is it necessary first to disconnect the battery of your car?
I did disconnect the battery prior to starting this job, and I left it with the battery disconnected for 15mins before starting work. I have done it before with the battery connected and I jumped out of my skin when the horn went off when I was taking out the air bag. So I wouldn't recommend it. When dealing with explosives take all necessary precautions.

Hi, I have the same unit on my Peugeot partner. And my blinker control is not working well. It doesn't hold its position and falls. I want to ask you if there's a way to repair it without changing the whole unit. I think it is some broken spring or plastic, but in Peugeot they are asking 400€ and in other repairs 300€ for that. How difficult is it to add the Cruise Control? Video please. I have an 2003 automatic and Ostio Arthritis. Can the Radio stalk be removed without removing the Steering Wheel as I find it obstructs the Wiper Stalk, Thank You
I have a few missing scenes for the cruise control video, but i will redo the missing scenes when I do my next cruise control fitting. The wiper stalk can be removed without removing the steering wheel. The stalk has plastic tang on the bulk head side which needs to be pressed in to release the radio stalk.

Hello, I have an issue. Do You know which part could be responsible for ABS not working after hitting the steering wheel? It used to spontaneously turn off and then on again, but sensors on wheels and pump is alright, so this is not related to those, just to some stuff around sterring wheel :(

I take it you are talking about anti lock brakes. 406? The usual suspects are cracked abs rings on the front drive shafts or build up of metallic dirt on the sensors. If it has been faulty for a while, it could be the abs module has burnt out. It is easier if you have diagnostic kit as this will quickly narrow down the culprit. I am no expert but I would fix the obvious handbrake switch or handbrake switch wiring issue first before going any further.
so if you mount that on the left side on a car without cruise control, you get cruise control?
+shiraq07 If you switch the cruise control feature on in the ECU and the BSI, and have a clutch switch, brake switch(correctly adjusted) and have a cruise control switch then yes a car without cruise control can become a car with cruise control. I did this on my own car. I am just trying to find all the footage to create a cruise control video.
