How to split a COMPLEX STL model into two objects using Blender using Knife Project.

- In my first video about how to do this I used a simple object. Unfortunately, complex objects have unique challenges that require some additional steps to cutting and separating them into two pieces. I am posting an addendum to that original video to show how to do that. Let me state again that I know there are a myriad of tools that aid in cutting operations such as BoxCutter. I want to show a solution that works with stock Blender. I also show how to use "tweak mode" in Blender as well as how to bevel a vertex point.
Is there a tutorial for the current version of Blender?
"Keep yout things organized, so you know what you are doing"
Dude, i dont know what are you doing.
Nice explanation - it's definitely frustrating when things that you're expecting to work DON'T work (i.e. when you subdivided the straight sections of the cutting curve on the right side). Much appreciated for shedding light!
great video thank you! seemed like pulling teeth trying to find a step by step on how to do this lol
why is it that when i separate my objects just as you do then smooth the faces on both that i end up with a rendered object that is no longer one but seems split in the middle
So, total noob question, what's the hotkey for vertex select?
And if you can help, basically I'm trying to make a mesh with 35,000 triangles in it, be cut into parts with 5,000 triangles or less so I can upload them to a game and piece them together, does this work for that as well?
Ctrl+Tab is the hotkey for Mesh Select Mode in Blender 2.79. It will be "1" in Edit Mode in Blender 2.8 I believe. Here is a great beginner's course that is quick and free. cgcookie.com/lesson/first-steps-with-blender
Speaking as someone who has made video games for a living, for over a decade, trust me when I tell you that you want your topology and polycounts specifically targeted and optimized for the specific video game. Please consider retopology for your game objects. Depending on what you are doing, that may prevent you from having to cut up your object.
