I probably don't need to add to all the positive comments...but I will. This is excellent!! I have studied judo and aikido and I've always wondered if aikido had any hip and shoulder throws like judo as I've not seen them demonstrated at all, let alone to this high degree of excellence as shown in this video. Of course these techniques are modified so they are in keeping with the aikido general principle of harmony of movements, but it is great to see aikido does in fact have them.
I believe this is him Hiroshi Ikeda is a Japanese aikido teacher in the United States. He holds the rank of 7th dan from the Aikikai. He is the most senior student of Mitsugi Saotome of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba
Great video. Most memorable line for me: "Although it may appear to the contrary, koshi nage is not about picking up and throwing; instead it is about blending and passing through." But, yeah, the ukemi can be rough on the body, particularly when working with people that don't know how to do it well (or don't care about their uke...bad nage!).
Merci pour les magnifiques techniques 👍
Thank you for posting this up, I appreciated the "refresher" this type of content is.
Excellent tutorial video about this advanced technic. I use at Shobu Aiki Dojo. Thanks Hirohi Ikeda Sensei!
Domo arigato!

Wow! Great tutorial.
Those are damn hard on the body.I recommend to learn these for the tests but other than that, they needlessly beat the body up.
At 5'51, I don't call this koshi nage but clearly : ippon seoi nage..
