Either upgrades/3rd CC are slightly delayed but - as you witnessed - when the best player in the world is executing it flawlessly, it definitely works. Serral had to make units from the get go.. And wasn't free to drone. (Units that usually promptly died so run-bys were rare.) Maru's game sense and pace-setting is second to none and he chose this build for that reason. NOTE * game 3..) he mindgamed Serral into thinking he was doing the exact same thing yet again. And Serral made units to prepare for what he thought would be a repeat Tank push; A tank push which never came.. And instead had to deal with mines. 2-1-1 is hard to do but was def the big brain choice for Mar Mar. ;)
Yeah, I totally love Maru doing that in this matchup. He used to be too passive and defensive in TvZ for the last year or so, and that allow Zerg to roam freely taking base and spreading creep like crazy. That always put him in the backfoot moving into lategame despite Maru lategame is the best the world. Now Maru can take control of the map early and force Zerg to defend more.
Good points! To he honest, it had been long enough since I've seen a 211 that I remember the zerg response but a little less about the terran intricacies of the build. Certainly great to not see maru turtling to late game with no pressure like he was doing at the start of the year

The argument has surely been settled. Maru 조성주 is legitimately the fastest, smartest, most dynamic human to ever lay hands on this game.. I've already watched the sc2 replay packs for this series (and him smashing Clem) to study his hotkeys & control from 1st POV. And It's all just incredible.. ❤🙌🏽🤖 #Maru ! 🤗
Serral has a favorable record against Maru and an even better historical run back in 2018 too. He's sick but I wouldn't rush it that much when claiming him as the goat. He came in way too strong for this tournament, though; definitely one of the best performances of all time in any major or premier tournaments.

Great commentary, enjoying hearing your perspective. One thing that I'd add to what makes Serral so great (even though he lost this series, that's fine, Maru in his top form is close to unbeatable and is my favorite player) is Serral's decision-making. The way he identifies in real time what his opponents are most likely looking to do based on the absolute minimum of information and reacts correctly, over and over. It amazes me every single time I see it.
I hope that the RoK automatically places world class SC and SC2 players into their officer program. Because they understand so much about logistics and how armies move. That the most training/instruction they would need would be leadership and management skills required to command units.

Serral is so good, but I feel like he plays Zerg, because he plays a bit carelessly. He is fast. Faster than almost anyone. And he is smart. Usually, that's enough, but Serral is rather careless in the way that he engages, he goes off creep, he throws away armies, he relies on his game theory and his brute force to overwhelm, and because he is so good, that usually works, but against a tactical player, or a patient player, he runs into issues. I will never be as good as Serral, or Maru. Shit. I float low Master league at best. But I know Serral throws away units way too carelessly.
In term of achievement at the moment, its close among Serral, Maru and Rogue, with Dark is in the conversation as well. I would say whoever take the IEM next year would be the better one.

@@Indipender Yes, it has a lot of gas but it's hard to know what to spend it on. Because Maru has Ghosts in his army and they can easily snipe the Broodlords. Also, the Broods are very slow while Maru's army is very mobile. So yes, one on one, Serral's army would have been better but since Maru didn't stop runby, it was a dangerous gamble.
Its the contrary, Serral is so good at scouting that its very hard for players to hide any build from him. You have to fight him straight up with better micro and/or macro, forcing him to engage and hope that hes making mistake before you do.
Yeah, I'm happy that Maru has been back in good form. Even in the last GSL (and the games leading up to it) he was looking real good, but tough luck versus Trap. But Maru has been looking great the last few months. I'm just happy he is changing game style again, and looks interested in the game. Swear he was always looking real bored at one point (Blizzcon, remember his picture for that with the super blank expression and thumb up hahaha). He was looking a little lifeless at one point, but maybe his injury was playing into it also? I think his injury is what led him to become such a turtle / defensive player also, knowing he couldn't rely on his micro as much. Either way good to see him back at it in great form, and very entertaining to watch.

@@Indipender There are game 2 and 3, its dumb to make baseless accusation just because of 1 game. And to make 6-8 Broodlord, you have to give up 30-40 arny supply or 60-70 lingbane, then how you are going to stop the Bio push at BOTH sides at the same time? Broodlord is great when Zerg trying to push into a base of Terran and wipe everything out on the ground. They are not the mobile defensive units like Lurker, and can be easily micro around by Medivac. Serral didnt make Broodlord because it did him no good in that situation, no map control, get harrassed at multiple locations, the need to counter attack with runby, none of the that suit Broodlord.

Saying this already shows the skill ceiling you are on. Also no, Serral wouldn't have to micro them that much harder as the enemy literally had 0 anti air, other than marines, which would have been blocked and nuked by the lings.

I used to love this game, but quit after widow mines came into play. They are objectively OP, and now I remember why. Even against pros, let alone n00bs like me, ONE good widow shot and the game is over. Fuck Blizzard doesn't know how to balance for shit.

Mostly this time Maru's comp is made up of marine, marauders, mines, medivacs and tanks. Mobile units where he can drop anywhere in the map, and Serral has to keep making fast units like lings otherwise his productions will be sniped. Serral's units require only mostly minerals so of course his gas will bank up. Serral made corruptors and vipers to counter medivacs and drops but that didn't work well, right? So he's left with lings and banes. Can those brood lords catch up to medivacs if Maru is dropping everywhere? Unless those brood lords move like phoenixes they can't do anything and Maru will snipe them one by one. Serral stopped making ultras, Maru kept making ghosts with his 3Ms. Calling someone a moron does not make your argument stronger. It only shows that your argument is sooooo weak that your last card is "I'm right, the other guy must be stupid or, in this case, a moron."
