why do you write dotted eighths and 16ths when the eighths are already written in swing?

dotted eighths and swing are not exactly the same thing

​@@RagtimeDorianHenry they're not, but I meant what was your reasoning behind notating some places with dotted 8ths and not 2 8ths (I suppose you're transcribing these songs by ear)
