You're partly correct. Sanzang has a second Noble Phantasm. Vyakarana: The Sandalwood Merit. This was her using both her Noble Phantasms in tandem to halt Mordreds attack
I mean the point of breaking the gates was that only a good natured act of compassion with no evil intent could scratch them. The point was her NP is used to save both lives and souls so I think for a more condensed version of that this works even if it's less flashy. Also lap pillow scene makes it worth it.
This fight could've been so cool, but they just cut off most of it to focus on the other ones (It's also sad seeing Mordred being so depressive, someone hug my girl)
