Quirky and fascinating... I can't believe I'm hearing this for the first time. Now I'm wondering what else Dallapiccola wrote in neo-classical style that I've overlooked. Last week I tried the two Tartinianas and was utterly charmed. MANY thanks for posting!

@Heilageldur In this piece there are certainly some 12 tone techniques used, but not throughout the whole piece and also in a very hidden way. That is the most amazing quality about Dallapiccolas's music. Another great example of the so called lyrical 12- tone pieces of his is Piccola Musica Notturna - that piece, believe it or not, is entirely composed with a 12-tone technique.
Conosco bene i quaderni musicali di Anna Libera, sono molto piacevoli e stimolanti da suonare. Luigi Dallapiccola anche in questo lavoro dimostra di essere sicuramente un grande talento. Peccato che il suo rigorismo formale di tipo geometrico sovente imbrigli la sua fantasia creativa che mi pare davvero straordinaria e mai del tutto liberamente espressa.
Un capolavoro!!! Esecuzione eccezionale nel far risaltare tutte le diversità agoniche.
