A minor(less than 18 years old) boy was also involved in the infamous case of 'Nirbhaya'. But since he was a minor his punishment was lenient irrespective of his crime. So this movie is bringing up the topic of that flawed law of being lenient towards those monsters.

I think they introduced a law which states that children from 15 years old can be tried in court. Same punishments as adults.

She has always been my favourite actress in Bollywood and is the queen of Bollywood. Can't wait for my queen to come back with the blockbuster Mardaani 2. Also most of her movies are hits. I also really wants to see her in a romantic film with Abhishek, Shahrukh, Salman, Saif, Aamir and she never done a movie with Ashkay Kumar. So it would be cool to see them together in a film. let's be honest, when it comes to rape accusations, it is a smaller percentage when compared to actual rapes that happen against woman. So, to stay out of the argument about rape completely is not the answer and jaby, as a man, you don't have to choose a side, cause it won't effect you as horrifically as rape affects both a man and a woman. If you can't even listen to the stories about rape, imagine how that makes rape victims feel when no one is willing to listen to their story on the harsh realities of life. And movies are an important way to showcase this. A woman cannot freely walk the streets, wear specific dressing that may affect a man, cannot talk a specific way, is forbidden to gain an education in many countries, and the percentage of rape against a woman is massive. Please educate yourself on this discussion instead of avoiding the argument altogether.

Watch "No one killed Jessica", you'll get to see exactly what you were talking about. How powerful politicians influence the whole judicial system. In this movie there was a murder not a rape but the murder occurred in a party in front of many eye witnesses but no one gave their statement in the court during the judicial proceedings of this case because the murderer was the son of a MP(Member of Parliament), so no one wanted to go against them.
Both Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee were amazing in this movie.

Vaisakh Udayan Kannada movies too... I don't know if you've heard about this Kannada movie called RANGITARANGA. But that movie is a must watch. It keeps you hooked on until the end. This movie was even made eligible for the Oscars but unfortunately did not make it to the final nominations list.

I don't know how the conversation became about rape or rape false accusations, when the antagonist of this film is clearly shown as a sick person who kills and mutilates girls. Such a perspective clearly dilutes and makes a real horrible situation look overdramatic.

This is not a courtroom drama where there is a left and right. It sort of muddled the discussion TBH

I think he was more talking about how in India right now there are movies like this being released, but also there was the documentary India’s Sons that came out just now. Like, he was just trying to take into account the political and cultural background that does surround this movie’s story. And he’s not wrong in doing so, because nowadays the entertainment industry has become incredibly politicized, and this movie trailer clearly picked a side, because they’ve introduced the statistic in the beginning, which is not necessarily an indication of how many R occur if you look at it from the perspective of India’s Sons. But, by linking it to an actual R and this type of brazen villain, they’re trying to make the statistic seem more proven than in question.

Let's face it this is clearly an over the top action movie, they are just trying to make it seem grounded with the statistic. I guess it worked.
MJ I didn’t find it defensive whatsoever, but that could just be a matter of personal preference. I think addressing the context of this movie and the time at which it’s releasing before discussing the specific content of the trailer worked really well. It was especially informative to me as a young woman because while I am typically careful not to take things at face value, these types of trailers do attempt to evoke a certain sympathy that I often buy into without looking at context. Plus, it worked in a chronological order as well, seeing as the trailer started on the statistic. Other than that, I find that the Mardaani franchise seems more like a liberal, female, revenge fantasy than just an action movie. In a way, Jaby made me realize that the franchise itself is just marketing on liberal media and societal anger. It’s actually exploitative in a way.

This is one of the many reasons I love my country because we acknowledge our frailities and mistakes and are extremely self introspecting people but I am not proud enough, because despite that we don't work hard enough to eradicate these shits from our country.
We describe our drawbacks very well but don't put in enough efforts to improve on them.
Also, that no. looks incredibly high, but it has alot to do with the higher population and a lot of uneducated ones also.

This movie is easily one of MOST UNDERRATED INDIAN MOVIES OF ALL TIME!! No one even talks about this movie.
The graphic way the victims are shown not an exaggeration for "cinematic effect" at all, in many of the high-profile rape cases the victims were subjected to an inhumane amount of cruelty, e.g. the nirbhaya case 2012, Asifa Bano...... I'll never be able to understand how one human can do this to another

Having watched this film recently, I found some significant similarities with the Netflix series Mindhunter Season 1. Of course, Mindhunter is based on real-life psychopaths, while this film is a work of fiction, but the underlying personality profile of the killers are unnervingly similar.

I kinda disagree with Jaby. It isn't a court room drama where you have to take a stand against the right or wrong. This is about a hideous crime, where someone is a serial rapist and killer. So this conversation was unnecessary.

Its just that most cases in India are not reported but nobody can beat de rape case's proportion in India.
